Yeah, I'm just looking for a really good air combat game. It doesn't have to be super realistic, but I don't want it to feel too... "arcade-y." I'd want something that can put you in the 1st-person view and use the tools within the ****pit to fire weapons and such.

So, is there anything out there? (great graphics too, would be a bonus.)

Hahaha, it won't let you say ****pit!! :D

But on a serious note, is it just me, or is the combat flight sim market taken a serious down turn over the past few years? There used to be heaps of these games being made, now I can't really think of too many being released now... Please correct me if im wrong!

You're right... There's a few arcade-ish console ones but that's pretty much it now.

BTW is FSX enjoyable or even playable w/o the flight stick? Is it possible to do it with the analog on a controller?

It's enjoyable either way. The joystick is just HIGHLY recommended. You can get a good joystick now for like $30-$40. It's well worth the investment!

Yeah, problem is the only spendable $50 I'd have if I bought this flight game is the money going toward Smash Bros :p I guess I'll just hold off on a flight sim for a while then.

Ace Combat. For PS2 and XBOX 360.
PS2- Ace Combat UnSung War and Ace Combat Shattered Skies. Great game.

360- Ace combat 6 fires of liberation.

Don't hold off, you would be missing out. Just use your mouse, it is almost as great an experience as with a joystick. Either way the game is phenominal.

    ace combat x ps2
ace combat shattered skies. xbox 360

nothing beats acecombat it just rocks, realistic planes graphics and gameplay its hella fun.

only thing i can recommend for the pc is the old il2 sturmovik. which was pretty decent but im not into ww2 planes :p

IL-2 1946 has to be the best air combat sim for WW2-+ aircraft.
A little dated but still one of the best, and cheap.

ACE Combat might as well be an the old Afterburner Arcade game.

Oh and the Saitek ST290 is a good low cost controller.

If you're looking for something more realistic than 100 missile arcade shooters like Ace Combat, but less demanding than Falcon AF or IL-2, try Wings over Vietnam or Wings over Europe.

They're both fairly recent, (WoV 2004, WoE 2006) cheap, and have tons of mods, extra planes, etc available for free download.

As with any flight-sim, make sure to install the latest patches before playing....

If you like MMO's, go for Warbirds or Aces High II.
Easy to find dogfightings with IL-2. Buy the 1946 edition, patch it and you're ready to go.
