ok so ive got a hp dv5 1005TX with a 9600M GT and when playing cod4 crysis
etc on normal factory clocks it runs at about 80-84C  default clocks are 400MHZ core 400MHZ memory and 800MHZ shader.
also when i overclock it to 500MHZ 500MHZ and 1200MHZ it runs at 85C.
it also dosent have a fan
can someone tell me if this is normal operating temp for this laptop?

I have a 9600M GT in my laptop, and when I game it does get hot.

While playing grid, crysis, assassin's creed etc. it usually does go to ~85C

My record is 92 it think :D :D, but that only happened once.

From what I've heard from other people, most 9600M GT owners have similar temps, so I don't think you should be that worried.

If you are why not buy a notebook cooler or increase ventilation around your laptop??
    Hope this helsp

EDIT - Mine is not overclocked, and I don't feel I need to ;)
Overclocking will raise your temps no matter what

ok if thats normal temp im not that worried though i am interested why overclocking it by 25% raises the temp by 2C oh well not gonna complain i think i get 10 extra fps on cod4 :)

Nice to hear your fps increased.

Overclocking always increases temperatures, not sure of the exact technical reason why :p

But also keep in mind that those higher temps are the potential result of the not so good cooling of the laptop.
I think that series of laptops has some issues with heating which is why the temps are higher by about 10 degrees compared to Acer 5930G.

You can't overclock an HP dv5t, the video card is BIOS-locked. Even though the software reports the clocks different, they actually did not change.

80-84*C is normal for the dv5t. If you want cooler temperatures, buy a notebook cooler. Check out NBR Cooling Central:

Shouldn't it be lower than that???

I mean that is usually what I get on my ddr3 version of the card, I thought that the DDR2 version runs cooler

    Maybe not

    I don't think it's the card ... I think it's the HP cooling system.
If I'm not mistaken, people reported that particular HP series has issues with cooling which results in higher temps.

Correct, it's HP's cooling solution that causes the high temperatures. Apparently they were okay with ~85*C on the graphics card. It's fine, but . . . not too far from "too hot", which would be 90*C.
The best solution is to get a cooling pad.

It's interesting to note that Acer beats HP in the cooling department when it comes to the 5930G.
Maximum temps on 9600m GT GDDR3 under load come to about 75 degrees in my Acer.
I have a Zalman NC2000B working beneath the laptop, so my temps are further 10 degrees lower (65 degrees under max load for the gpu).
    :)

RaYYaN ... yes, I'd say we are good for now with the 5930G as far as the temps are concerned.

Yeah it's definitely an HP issue. My 9600M GT GDDR2 idles around 55-60C and rarely gets above 75C under extreme load. Of course, my NC1000 cooler has a lot to do with these temps being the way they are.

Undervolt your laptop, it will make it run cooler. My DV5 doesn't go above 67 playing Mass Effect even.

i have less faith in acer, thats why i got da hp.
apparently the zalman NC200 works well with the dv5.
