I believe the latest drivers are version 1.84 now and can be found here :

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs
Make sure to pick the right OS.

Now my question - what settings should I keep in the RealTek HD Audio Manager?

Gophn had mentioned "Carpeted Hallway" + "Soft" - but for CS:S - too much echoing going on and even more difficult to pinpoint footsteps, shots etc...

I initially uninstalled these realtek drivers as I didn't need them for 1.6... but for CS:S - it was a different story - so I re-installed them... lots of options around, just I am not sure as to which one seems suitable... your opinions are welcome - thanks!

I've never changed any settings and with a pair of headphones I can pinpoint footsteps just fine. Guess I've just played entirely to much lol. You might want to try changing the settings to "Headphones", I noticed it sounds slightly better.

Hey thanks for your reply - if you can open up the manager - what setting do you have on the main "Sound Effect" Tab - for Environment and below that - Equalizer? Or are your EQ settings all in the middle?

You can find the manager, at least for me in the Control Panel settings (that is if you're using XP... not sure in Vista) mine does also show up in the systray -

Before I installed these drivers, sounds were much richer - now playing cs or source on the default as you mentioned with headphones sound a bit "tingy" and distant....

    Thanks for feedback :)

I have the Environment set to None and the EQ flat in the middle, off. I read somewhere that people recommend settings the Env. to Carpeted Hallway, but I notice no sound difference. Something else odd, how can you not have the control panel? Seeing as its part of the driver...and if you didn't have it before, how did your sound card work lol? Or am I missing something :D

Edit: One thing that I do is run DFX with Winamp...makes my music sound 110% better. I can imagine it changes the EQ but Winamp's EQ is untouched. Hmm

I was using te standard intel or legacy audio drivers before... I definitely had uninstalled the realtek manager in the past. Oh I might have been misunderstood - the manager is in the control panel... anyways I am trying to get use to it now :) After all we are trying to win the CPL right :)

Yeah I've used DFX... didn't like it... but that was on headphones - I am sure if yoo have a nice stereo speaker setup, I'd beg to differ - but that's a whole different story eh? :)
