Ok I just got a new laptop ASUS G60JX and I downloaded Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Steam. I open steam and right when I try to connect to my acount my computer freezes and the only way to unfreeze the computer is to restart. I also try to go into Battlefields multiplayer server and right when I connect to a game it freezes. I have been browsing the internet for a solution and I found that disabling Realtek HD audio will solve the problem, but another problem arises. What alternative is there to Realtek HD audio, as of now I have to play with no sound. At first I thought this was a hardware issue but now im sure it's Realtek HD audio.
Please help! I hate not being able to get the full gaming experience.
A lot of other people are having this problem, but no solution.

Have you tried completely uninstalled the realtek drivers?
uninstall via control panel, reboot into safe mode (hit F8 after bios screen), run driver sweeper and select realtek, select clean. reboot into normal mode.
Try running with the windows standard drivers. I'm gonna assume you're running win 7 x64.
See if there's a difference. I do not know the issue with steam as i never use steam, but i do know i had similar issues with BC2, both on my laptop and my desktop, both with realtek hd onboard sound. It's been about 6 months since i last played and updated myself on the issue, but if you check the official BC2 forums you should see there's been a lot of talk about realtek onboard sound and punkbuster (which BC2 uses) causing these types of crashes/hardlocks.
I also want to let you know that i could play BC2 just fine when disabling the onboard sound in bios, but of course without sound.
[EDIT]
Ugh just realized this was resurrected from the dead. Oh well, if anyone else has the same problem i hope my "fix" will help them.
Realtek HD audio manager freezing up steam and Battlefield BC 2!?
