Reasons for MW2's popularity

Some of you have probably seen this, but it made me laugh so I thought it's worth a share, from the onion:

During its first five days on the shelves, Activision's latest installment in the first-person-shooter video game franchise Call Of Duty brought in $550 million worldwide. What are the reasons for its popularity?

* Somehow knows names and places of battles that are set to take place in the next few weeks
* Multiplayer mode enables you to connect with friends, nonstop action prevents them from drawing you into meaningful conversation
* 5,000 or more hours of game play qualifies player for VA health care
* Not much good on TV
* When you shoot barrels, they explode
* The controller rumbles when your character is hit with a bullet, which is exactly what the human body does
* Dutiful young Americans realizing just what they are being called to do
* Offers homosexuals only opportunity to serve openly in the military

I love the Onion, their humor is witty and ridiculous. The controller comment made me laugh aloud in the library.

 

Shooting barells made me laugh

 

* When you shoot barrels, they explode.

Remember the N64 game Goldeneye?
So funny to shot regular non exploding stuff that blows up. xD
(Like a table or bookcase.)

 

-.-' they don't explode when shot...they have to be shot like 5 times to get them to explode other wise they just start to burn for a few minutes before exploding.

 

lol the last one is funny, that's mean though.

 

The exploding barrel is like a "Golden Rule" in video games.

"It is a barrel, therefore it should explode when shot."

 

That reminds me. I was reading the PC Gamer article about the editor who spent 24 hours with Garry's Mod. One game is called "Barrel Mania" where every player is an exploding barrel in a level filled with exploding barrels. Goal is to be last one standing. LOL. I couldn't find a YouTube video of it though.

That crysis thing is amazing. Hilarious. Wonder why his system crashed. Guess his video card would burn up... hehehe... bad humor.

lol, i remember playing Goldeneye and having alot of fun shooting everything because somehow a desktop chair disintegrates into a black ash structure when shot at, me and my friends always laughed at this and joked about why chairs would burn up in the game. I remember i thought the graphics were amazing at the time, course all of us all got N64's in either 1999 or 2000 because they were insanely pricey, i think.

 

Neither could the guy who made the vid lol.. not at all

Its already lost its playability to me. I've never really been a big fan of Fps games. The are to few maps and they are way to small even for only 9v9. It has to much of a UT3 feel to it...except for the part were you actually get vehicles. I'm sticking with the battlefield series from now on.

 

I agree somewhat...as great as MOD2 is on my PS3 I just dont find myself looking forward as much to waking up on my semester break and playing it. I think the limitations are bugging me, the small maps and the 9v9 cap has me getting bored now a little. I'm missing the big, reckless get a 20 kill streak in 2 minutes of COD4.
