I’m looking for a game to buy my friend for her birthday. Her computer is pretty strong..Gigabyte P35 board running a E8200 processor and a 8600GT card. I know the graphics card is going to be the really restrictor. She likes violent games, but also sci-fi type stuff. I don’t think she’d be into just a plain war game. She also does a lot of RPGing. She's very creative and likes making characters out of stuff.

    Suggestions?

She really likes the RE games for playstation so thought maybe one of those.. she already has all the doom games.

Stress her system out with Crysis. She might like that; it has a decent plotline and violence!

You could also play F.E.A.R. It's just like Resident Evil, except a lot creepier. It's like a psychological thriller, but a great plotline with a great FPS and physics engine; it's unbeatable.

I'm sorry but fear can't beat RE in terms of scaryness. I got really scared when playing RE2 on ps1, I was close to ****ting myself! But fear is a great game, violent indeed.

    Hitman series? UT?
and maybe Postal, it's an old game and it's UNNECESARRIELY violent.

Yeah seriously, you basically described Mass Effect with your first post. And you can play as a male or female character if that's her cup of tea.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep them all in mind and do some more research on them.

When I went through amazon.com these were some additional games that looked promising to me:

Oblivion (Not as violent but I really think she'll get into this)
    Hellgate: London
    The Witcher
    Neverwinter Nights 2
    Assassin's Creed
Tomb Raider: Legend (really liked the movies..)

    Any players can comment?

If she's cute, recommend Mass Effect (and post her picture)

If she's not, then recommend Hellgate London.

I still like old games, but:

System Shock 2 (and it has fan patches with hi-res textures released, etc)
Planescape: Torment (often lauded as the best of the PC RPGs, and there's a (slightly complicated) method of getting it to support high resolutions, too).

i wouldn't recommend neverwinter nights 2 because it is not action intensive at all, and it might take someone who's not familiar with Dungeon&Dragon series a while to pick this game up.
i played it for like 5 hours and gave up, had no idea what i was doing.

i would probably get Bioshock, sci fi, FPS, lots of action and pretty violent, bit of scarry and a very interesting story

As everyone agrees; GO WITH OBLIVION. It has everything that she wanted: Character Creation, Action Style battle, Lotsa Questing and a very cool graphic with Vast-open environment to explore :D

Im not sure if Nwn is good for the gal, since you have to be real into D&D system to know it... and the battle arent that Action but the graphic are nice though and good story :D

FPS: Fear, Serious Sam, Postal 1 & 2 (very fun lol :D) , Painkiller Overdose,
STALKER (RPG+FPS) and Deus EX (Sci-fi FPS)

RPG: KOTOR, Fable Lost Chapter, The Witcher (currently playing; very good story)

crysis, gorgeous graphics, scifi and a fps and violent well somewhat violent, not the most violent game that iv seen. ooh, get the manhunt game if she wants violence. manhunt has been banned and was the reason the esrb was formed along with mortal combat.

Just in case anyone was wondering I picked up the following games:

    RE 4
    Mass Effect
    Orange Box
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R
    Hellgate: London
    The Witcher
    Assassin's Creed
    F.E.A.R

Choices made part on large amount of recommendations, $$, and not wanting to stress a system as much as say Crysis would.. some of those I picked up damn cheap. Hopefully she gets into something. She has.. a short attention span. LOL
