Hi, I recently got Dead Space 1 on steam for their 66% off sale.

Fun game, but it won't let me map movement controls to the mouse (I use the left button as forward and "r" as activate... don't ask). It also won't let me map any of the actions to the side buttons on my dynex mouse.

Does anybody know if there are remedies for either of these issues?

Try the program X-Mouse Button Control. Assign the tasks you want to perform on your mouse as keystrokes, then use the software to map those keys to the mouse buttons. I have to do this in F.E.A.R. 2 with an MX 518 mouse because the game doesn't recognize the two thumb buttons, and I like to have those assigned as melee and zoom.

Dead Space is a console port through and through so there are going to be idiosyncrasies. I find the game plays best with a 360 controller, but that might not be an option for you.

ack, yeah. I don't mind using a 360 controller for third person games, but I lost my wired usb one. I've just been putting up with the keyboard for now.
