    In anticipation of a W3J with an x1600, what's a game that I should go out and buy? doom3? Half-life 2?

    All suggestions welcome :)

HL2 is a must have, though I'd recommend getting the game straight from Steampowered.com (possibly getting one of the packages). The packages are actually worth it as they give you alot more games for the money, games that are definitely worth checking out.

You might also want to check out Battlefield 2, or F.E.A.R. They are both beautiful games that are quite fun (in my opinion).

Howabout FFXI, a game that'll tax your laptop in no way and still look good, and absorb your life, and become an addiction, or another MMORPG that'll do the same. =P

Whatever you do, dont buy Star Wars: BattleFront II.... i made that mistake.
Go and buy BattleField II instead. lolz. same concept... MUCH BETTER GAME. And if you want to get your laptop to heat up a bowl of soup for you, play some FEAR or Call of Duty 2. These two make the X1600 go into the higher 70s (degrees celcius).
HL2 is a must have though, along with Doom3...

i would also suggest FFXI..along with NHL2006, BF2, HL2, CS1.6 (NOT CS:S), Oblivion, Farcry, F.E.A.R. ...everything there besides NHL2006 is a must have in my book...

    pb,out.

I will be buying HL2 platinum edition when it comes out in June. It will have the expansion and everything else you could want for a cool $50. I'm anticipating the w3j too. Well, more like desparetly waiting in miserly state.

    My Current List:

    Half-Life 1 & 2

CS:S (Although I really miss playing 1.6 it was so gritty and to the point)

    FarCry

Doom 3 is good but after a while of Open Door AhhhHHhhhhhhh!! Bam Oooh Ok all safe, kinda gets old.

Things I am playing right now that are fan f'in tastic

F.E.A.R. (Sooooooo Goood & Soooooo Creepy) I am on the last Interval *So Excited*

Battlefield 2 - Haven't quite figured it out but this game is sooo addicting.

Both of those turn my Laptop into a Radiator Heater though (7800 Go Puts out alot of HEAT)

    Others Well Noted

Command and Conquer (Mixed Results frome everyone I love the old ones)

    Starcraft & Starcraft Broodwar

In the scheme of things, the monthly fees are totally worth it with how much gameplay you get out of it, a regular game lasts an average of 40-80 hours. An MMORPG on the other hand, you can get thousands of hour of gameplay and only pay $13 a month, plus if you like it a lot, the urge to buy other games goes down, thus less money spent there too.

I definitely agree with Reize on that point; back when I played FFXI/WoW on a regular basis, my desire to purchase other games went down dramatically. I think just paying the monthlies was far cheaper than my previous gaming habit. Paying 13-15 a month on only one game, as opposed to buying 2 or 3 new games a month at 40-50 bucks a pop...... it's a valid assessment that in some cases, the monthly fee could be the lesser of two evils. :p

you better have a killer system to run FEAR. i have an 7800 GTX and it laggs like crazy on all high settings. Still a great game, by far the scariest thing in the world. Warcraft 3 is alot of fun and doesnt really get dull. also look into Counter Strike Source. its just plain fun

oh ya and reize, unless you havent changed your profile in a while you cant have that much to do when you are fifteen

Want a scary game? Play "Condemned". It utilizes FEAR's engine. By far the scariest FPS i know.

ive read some on that game (condemend) but it seems to me just like gory guts and zombies. i think FEAR does a really good job of making you scared of something unreal, or something that is not going to chop your head off with a huge butcher knife. but i might look into that if you say its really scary

CS:S <IMO> seems too easy..scouting (depending on how large the teams are..) i can almost easily get 2-5 kills per round. with the colt...its a joke..they made it into the MP5 where you can just run and gun and get easy headshots. also, i find that MOST players skills are lacking compared to 1.6. i do like the physics though..kinda fun to block the hallways in office with filing cabinets or barrels..good times.

CS 1.6 <IMO> is the original game, and still the very best. it has very skilled people (most of them anyway), and even though the graphics arent as good, it doesnt matter since everything else is the guns arent babied like CS:S, and it makes it actually difficult to rack the kills.

Just thought I'd add that there is no need to wait for the platinum edition of HL2 that comes out at the end of June from EA. You can download the premium package on Steam right now and get HL2, the expansion that comes out June 1, Lost Coast, CS:S, DOD:S, and Half Life:S (plus all the deathmatch games that come with the half life games) for a cool $53.98. That is an absolute steal of a deal. You get the follow up to what most consider to be the greatest multiplayer of all time in CS:S. What many consider to be the greatest series of all time in HL.
