FPS/Action/Puzzle

Half Life: Half-Life is a science fiction first-person shooter video game developed by Valve Software and the company's debut product. In Half-Life, players assume the role of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a recent graduate theoretical physicist who must fight his way out of a secret underground research facility, whose research and experiments into teleportation technology have gone wrong.

My Feedback: Half Life was ground breaking for its time. The game is greatly made, and challenges the player to think. The graphics are what you expect from the late 1990’s, but if you are more interested in a good story line, and fun game play, it’s a must play.


Half Life 2: Half-Life 2 is a science fiction first-person shooter computer game and the sequel to the highly acclaimed Half-Life. Half-Life 2 takes place in a dystopian world in which the events of Half-Life have fully come to bear on human society, which has been enslaved by a multidimensional empire known as the Combine. The game takes place in and around the fictional City 17 and follows the adventures of scientist Gordon Freeman who must fight against increasingly unfavorable odds in order to survive.

My Feedback: Half Life 2 is an incredible game, and a major step forward from the first one. With major graphical improvement, more puzzles and challenges, and more to the story line, this game is a legend in its own. This game also has numerous mod’s available on Steam, some of which are very entertaining.


Portal: Portal is a single-player first-person action/puzzle video game developed by Valve Corporation. In Portal, the player controls the protagonist, Chell, from a first person perspective as she is challenged to navigate through a series of rooms using the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device ("portal gun" or "ASHPD"). The portal gun can create two distinct portal ends, orange and blue. The portals create a visual and physical connection between two different locations in three-dimensional space.

My Feedback: Portal really set the bar high in this FPS/Puzzle game. The name of the game is to get to the exit in the room using the portals. But beware, some rooms are more challenging than others...


Counter-Strke: Source: Counter-Strike: Source (abbreviated CS:S) is a first-person shooter video game developed by the Valve Corporation. Counter-Strike: Source is a remake of Counter-Strike, and consequently retains its team-based objective-oriented first-person shooter style gameplay. The aim of playing a map is to accomplish a map's objective. There are many types of objectives that a map can have, but the ultimate goal of the game is to win more rounds than the opposing team, which is accomplished by fulfilling the map's winning conditions.

My Feedback: If you have never played CS:S, where have you been?? This game is legendary, and is still one of the most popular FPS’s on the market. There is a lot to like in a game like this.


F.E.A.R.: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon is a horror-themed first-person shooter developed by Monolith Productions and published by Vivendi. The game's story revolves around a supernatural phenomenon, which F.E.A.R.—a fictional special forces team—is called to contain. The player assumes the role of F.E.A.R.'s Point Man, who possesses superhuman reflexes, and must uncover the secrets of a paranormal menace in the form of a little girl.

My Feedback: This game is a lot of fun, and a lot of scary all packed into one. It’s has a great story line, good graphics, and people do still play the multiplayer.


Far Cry and Far Cry 2: Ubisoft has marketed Far Cry 2 as the true sequel to Far Cry, though the sequel has very few noticeable similarities to the original game. Instead, it features completely new characters and setting, as well as a new style of gameplay that allows the player greater freedom to explore different African landscapes such as deserts, jungles, and savannas. The game takes place in a modern-day East African nation in a state of anarchy and civil war. The player takes control of a mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate "The Jackal," a notorious arms dealer.

My Feedback: Farcry and Farcry 2 are both very good games. Far Cry 2 added more gameplay and features that the first one lacked, but to get the full effect, I recommend playing the first before the second. Both are good games.


Unreal Tournament 3: Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) is a first-person shooter and online multiplayer video game by Epic Games and is the latest installment of the Unreal series after Unreal Tournament 2004. Similar to the previous entries of the series, the game is primarily an online multiplayer title offering several game modes, including large-scale Warfare, Capture-the-Flag, and Deathmatch. It also includes an extensive offline single-player game with an in-depth story, advancing from the simple tournament ladder to such concepts as team members with their own individual personalities.

My Feedback: You want a fast pace FPS? You want crazy weapons and vehicles? Then this is the game for you. UT3 is the latest of the Unreal games, and is fast paced action, and a whole lot of awesomeness rolled into one.


Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Gameplay in Bad Company 2 resembles that of the original and is set in various environments from South America and the mountainous regions along the borders of Russia. Bad Company 2 features 15 vehicles, including new additions, such as the UH-60 Black Hawk, a quad bike, a two-man patrol boat, a personal watercraft, a ZU-23 mounted on a BTR-D armored personnel carrier, and a UAV helicopter controlled via remote computer terminals.

My Feedback: BFBC2 is a great game to play is you like FPS’s with a slower pace, tactical game play, and being team oriented. It has a wide array of vehicles and weapons, so there is something for everybody.


Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. The story takes place in a fictional near-future, where a radical leader has staged a execution order in the Middle East, and an "Ultranationalist" movement has instigated a civil war in Russia. The events of the conflicts are seen from the perspectives of an American Marine and a British SAS commando, and are set in multiple locations, including the Middle East, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Prypiat, Ukraine. The multiplayer portion of the game features various game modes, and contains a leveling system that allows the player to unlock additional weapons, weapon attachments, and camouflage schemes as they advance.

My Feedback: Call of Duty is an amazing game. With a score of 94% from GameRankings, this game is hard to not like. The campaign was amazing, with good dialog, and the multiplayer is one of the best. It has an upgrade system in which unlocks more weapons/perks when you level up.


Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 2: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[9] (also referred to as simply Modern Warfare 2[10] or Call of Duty 6) is a first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. Similar to previous installments within the Call of Duty series, the player assumes the role of various characters during the single-player campaign, changing perspectives throughout the progression of the story, playing as "Soap", Roach, etc. Each mission features a series of objectives that are displayed on the HUD, which marks the direction and distance towards and from such objectives. Tasks vary in their requirements, having the player arrive at a particular checkpoint, eliminate enemies in a specified location, stand his/her ground to defend an objective, or plant explosive charges on an enemy installation.

My Feedback: Ok, this game has a lot of controversy, and in my opinion, it’s a game you love to hate. With 4.7 Millions copies sold within 24 hours, it’s hard to say this game isn’t great. It has major improvement from the first, with more unlockable weapons/perks/kill streaks, and custom titles/emblems. This game has a lot to offer, and has the staying power to last a very long time.


Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2: Left 4 Dead is a cooperative first-person shooter video game. It was developed by Turtle Rock Studios, which was purchased by Valve Corporation during development. In campaign mode, the player takes control of one of the survivors; if four human players are not available, then the remaining survivors are AI-controlled bots. They play through the levels fighting off the infected—living humans who have been infected with a rabies-like virus that causes psychosis, to which the survivors are immune.

My Feedback: Both Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are amazing games. All about co-op, you fight through fast moving zombies through maps to certain checkpoints (Safe Rooms). There is a wide variety of weapons, as well as pipe bombs, molitov cocktails, and med kits. The second Left 4 Dead has upgrades the first one lacked, but the concept is still the game.


Crysis: Crysis is a science fiction first-person shooter video game developed by Crytek Frankfurt, published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows, and released in November 2007. As with Crytek's previous game Far Cry, Crysis is an open-ended first-person shooter game with many ways to meet objectives. The player controls a special forces soldier codenamed Nomad whose weapons can be customized without pausing the flow of time, for example changing firing modes, changing scopes or adding sound suppressors. The player is also capable of selecting various modes in Nomad's military prototype "Nano Suit" which draw power from the suit's energy.

My Feedback: Crysis was an amazing game. With detail levels off the charts, this game is very demanding on ones system. But if you got the specs to run it, it is a fun game.


Team Fortress 2: Team Fortress 2 is a team-based first-person shooter multiplayer video game developed by Valve Corporation. Like its predecessors, Team Fortress 2 is focused around two opposing teams competing for an objective. These teams, Reliable Excavation & Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU), are meant to represent two holding corporations that between them secretly control every government on the planet. Players can choose to play as one of nine classes in these teams, each with his own unique strengths and weaknesses.

My Feedback: Now we are really getting into good games here. TF2 is an awesome game, with a “cartoon like appearance”. It is heavily based on team gameplay, and with a full part of friends, it is hours of fun. I have personally logged countless hours playing this game.


Bioshock: BioShock is a first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games, then under the name 2K Boston/2K Australia and designed by Ken Levine. Set in an alternate history 1960, the game places the player in the role of a plane crash survivor named Jack, who must explore the underwater city of Rapture, and survive attacks by the mutated beings and mechanical drones that populate it.

My Feedback: Bioshock was an extremely fun game. It offers a lot of suspense, survival, and role playing. If you liked this game, think about pickup up Bioshock 2, which continues the story.


Ghostbusters: Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a 2009 crossplatform action game based on the Ghostbusters film franchise. The game follows the player's character as a new recruit in the Ghostbusters, a team of parapsychologists who pursue and capture ghosts. The game features elements of typical third-person shooters, but instead of using a traditional gun, players are equipped with a "proton pack", a laser beam-like weapon, and a ghost trap to fight and capture ghosts. The game's plot is set around Thanksgiving in 1991, with the Ghostbusters team training the player's character while investigating paranormal activities in New York City.

My Feedback: One of the best games I have played in a long time. If you loved the movies, you will love this game. Some people often refer this game on what the third movie should have been. With a main story line to follow, and able to upgrade weapons and other gadgets, it is a very fun game on both campaign and multi-player.


Red Faction – Guerilla: Red Faction: Guerrilla is a third-person shooter video game developed by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ. In Red Faction: Guerrilla, the player takes the role of Alec Mason as he assists the Red Faction to disrupt and overthrow the Earth Defense Force (EDF) on Mars. This is presented to the player in a third person perspective, a departure from the series' previous two games which were first person shooters.

My Feedback: Running around with weapons, remote charges, and a big hammer destroying building and shooting enemies, what more could you want? Nearly everything in this game is destructible, and never blows up the same way twice. With an in-depth story line, it is a very fun game.


GTA IV: Grand Theft Auto IV (commonly abbreviated as GTA 4 or GTA IV) is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North. Much like its predecessors, the core gameplay of Grand Theft Auto IV consists of giving the player a large, open world environment in which to move around freely. On foot, the player character can walk, run, jump, climb over obstacles and swim, as well as use weapons and perform basic hand-to-hand combat. Players can steal and drive a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, boats, helicopters, and motorcycles. Grand Theft Auto IV takes advantage of Natural Motion's Euphoria engine, which combines artificial intelligence, bio-mechanics and physics to make NPC behavior and movement adaptive and more realistic.

My Feedback: Want to relieve some stress by stealing a car? Gunning down an innocent bystander? Running from the cops? Then this game is for you. So much to do in this game, you will have a hard time putting it down.


Just Cause 2: Just Cause 2 is a sandbox-style action video game. It was released in North America on March 23, 2010, by Swedish developer Avalanche Studios and Eidos Interactive, published by Square Enix. It is the sequel to the 2006 video game Just Cause. Just Cause 2 employs Avalanche Engine 2.0; an updated version of the engine used in Just Cause. The game is set on the other side of the world from the original Just Cause on the fictional tropical island of Panau in Southeast Asia. Rico Rodriguez returns as the protagonist, aiming to overthrow the evil dictator Pandak "Baby" Panay and confront his former boss, Tom Sheldon.

My Feedback: Just Cuase 2 is much like GTA IV. It is a go anywhere, do anything kinda game, but with some added features. This game is so much fun, you will be busy for weeks. This is a MUST have for anyone who likes these kind of games.


Batman – Arkham Asylum: Batman: Arkham Asylum is an action-adventure stealth video game based on DC Comics' Batman. Batman: Arkham Asylum is played as an over-the-shoulder, third-person perspective action-adventure game. The player controls Batman as the masked vigilante makes his way around the island and structures of Arkham Asylum. In addition to running, jumping and crouching, Batman is also able to glide from heights using his cape, and use his grapple gun to ascend short heights or escape and hide from foes on gargoyle statues. In order to track Joker and other enemies, the player can switch in and out of "detective mode," which activates special visors in Batman's Cowl.

My Feedback: If there was ever any game to play as a superhero, this is the game to play. With a very fun combat system, detective mode that involves solving puzzles, and stealth, there is something for everybody. Beaten the game twice myself, looking forward to a third time.


Assassin’s Creed 2: Assassin's Creed II is a third person action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. The game is set in 2012, with player-controlled protagonist Desmond Miles escaping from Abstergo Industries with an employee, Lucy Stillman, after being forced to relive the genetic memories of ancestral assassin Altaïr ibn La-Ahad through a machine known as the "Animus." After escaping from Abstergo, Desmond enters a device which is more advanced than the Animus and relives the genetic memories of ancestral nobleman Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who lived during the Renaissance period of the late fifteenth century in Italy. The player controls Ezio, who becomes an Assassin. While controlling Ezio, the player can explore game renditions of Italian cities, regions and landmarks in open world gameplay. The gameplay is a mixture of action, stealth and platforming.

My Feedback: If you don’t mind this whole DRM thing that has been implemented by Ubisoft in order to combat piracy, this game is amazing. A HUGE improvement from the first one, this game has a more in-depth story line, and more diverse missions. There is nothing repetitive about this game, and there is a lot to do. But I do recommend playing the first one first, because of the story line.


Dead Space: Dead Space is a survival horror third-person shooter video game, developed by EA Redwood Shores. The player takes the role of Isaac Clarke (named after science fiction writers Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke), an engineer who must fight his way through a stricken mining ship infested with hostile, grotesque monstrosities called Necromorphs, which are human corpses transformed and reanimated by an unknown alien organism. The game features an 'over the shoulder' third-person perspective. Players can upgrade modules, including suit and weapons.

My Feedback: This game is a very entertaining 3rd person shooter, with a whole lot of scary stuff. And by that I mean it’s hard to walk around a corner and not jump out of your seat. A very fun game is you like upgradeable weapons, suits, and scary gameplay.


Rainbow Six - Vegas 2: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is an installment in the Rainbow Six series. It is a tactical first person shooter video game and the sequel to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 includes a single player campaign/storyline mode as well as a variation of the Terrorist Hunt mode included in previous games, which involves repeated encounters with enemy AI terrorists in a non-linear map. Terrorist Hunt mode may be played "Lone Wolf" (alone) or with a pair of computer controlled allies that may be issued environment-based contextual commands. Both the campaign and Terrorist Hunt game modes support cooperative multiplayer. Present in all game modes is a multi-dimensional advancement system. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is the first game in the series to feature a boss battle.

My Feedback: This is a really fun FPS if you like a mix of "run n gun" and "stealth". The game offers a lot in the campaign with a good story line, as well as a very fun multiplayer with a ranking up system.


Doom 3: Doom 3 is a science fiction horror video game developed by id Software and published by Activision. Doom 3 is a story-driven action game played from a first-person perspective. As with previous Doom games, the main objective is to successfully pass through its levels, defeating a variety of enemy characters intent on killing the player's character. Doom 3's more story-centered approach, however, means that the player often encounters friendly non-player characters, who provide key plot information, objectives and inventory items. The game incorporates ten weapons for the player's use to survive, including conventional firearms and explosives such as a submachine gun, shotgun and grenades, experimental plasma weaponry, and the traditional BFG 9000 and chainsaw weapons of the Doom franchise.

My Feedback: The Doom series is a legend in all it's own, and Doom 3 just takes it to another level. With a variety of guns, this is a good "shoot em' up" game. But be warned, playing with the lights off may not be a good idea.


Battlefield Heroes: Battlefield Heroes is a cartoon-style action video game developed by EA. It is played from context-specific third- and first-person shooter perspectives. Battlefield Heroes features a modified conquest mode providing each team 50 tickets and eventually one flag at the start of the round. Killing enemies and holding more flags than the opposing army will progressively reduce their number of tickets. The game also features matchmaking, to keep players of the same level together.

My Feedback: A very fun game, with a cartoon-ish like appearance. This game reminds me of the Battlefield games mixed with Team Fortress 2. A very fun game to play indeed.


Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast: Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, often abbreviated JK2 or JO, is a first- and third-person action game developed by Raven Software and published by LucasArts and Activision. Jedi Outcast's gameplay is similar to that of its predecessor. The player moves through the single-player in a linear manner, meeting friendly and hostile NPCs. Enemies are usually killed with blasters, lightsaber or Force powers, and friendly NPCs will occasionally assist the player. While most of the game involves dispatching enemies single-handedly, there are several puzzles which the player must solve. The single-player also involves sections in which the player controls turrets, although such set-pieces are rare.

My Feedback: Now if there was a Star Wars game to get, this would definitely be on the list. With very fun light saber combat, as well as force powers and weapons, there is a lot to be played.


Star Wars - Battlefront Series: The Star Wars: Battlefront series is a series of first-person/third-person shooter video games based on the Star Wars films by George Lucas. The gameplay is similar to that found in the Battlefield series and related series. Games normally revolve around two teams (Republic vs CIS or Galactic Empire vs Rebel Alliance) fighting each other on a battlefield. Maps take place in the Star Wars universe, with arenas varying in theme and size. Across the battlefield are multiple "command posts" that act as spawn points for units and vehicles. A command post can be captured by having a unit stand next to it with no hostile units in the immediate vicinity for a short duration. Some vehicles act as mobile command posts, and must be destroyed as they can not be captured. On some maps (such as Hoth or Endor), certain structures also act as command posts that can not be captured. Command post capturing works differently on certain campaign missions as well.

My Feedback: Here I have added the series instead of just one game, because all of the games are alike, but different in ways, so there is something for everybody.


Star Wars - Republic Commando: Star Wars: Republic Commando is a first-person shooter Star Wars video game, released in the US on March 1, 2005. It was developed and published by LucasArts. The game is set during the events of the Clone Wars that started at the climax of the movie Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. In the game, the player is expected to take command of a Clone commando team, made up of elite Clone troopers. These "clone commandos" have been specially bred at the clone factories on Kamino. The commando team will travel to various locations in the Star Wars universe, including Kashyyyk, Geonosis, and the derelict spacecraft, The Prosecutor.

My Feedback: A very fun game if you like any Rainbow Six, Halo, or Metroid Prime games. Even though some people compare them to those games, this one should not be overlooked.


S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a first-person shooter computer game by the Ukrainian developer GSC Game World, published in 2007. In S.T.A.L.K.E.R, the player assumes the identity of an amnesiac "Stalker", an illegal explorer/artifact scavenger in "The Zone", named "The Marked One". "The Zone" is the location of an alternate reality version of the Zone of alienation surrounding the Chernobyl Power Plant after a second, fictitious explosion, which further contaminated the surrounding area with radiation and caused strange otherworldly changes in local fauna, flora and the laws of physics.

My Feedback: A good FPS with a good story line. And with 2 other games that follow this one, it is a good series to play.



S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Call of Pripyat: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is the sequel of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, a first-person shooter computer game by Ukrainian developer GSC Game World. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is the third game in the survival FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. The events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl following the ending in which Strelok destroys the C-Consciousness. Having discovered the open path to the Zone's center, the government decides to stage a large-scale operation to take control of the Chernobyl nuclear plant.

My Feedback: With a sucsessfull series, this game (and it's prequels) should not be missed. With great reviews, and a good story line, this is a must play.


Resident Evil Series: Resident Evil, is a video game series and media franchise consisting of comic books, novelizations, films, and a variety of collectibles, including action figures, strategy guides and publications. Developed by Capcom and created by Shinji Mikami, the series has sold almost 40 million games as of May 2009.

My Feedback: Now here is some amazing FPS'ers. The older RE's are fun, but the new RE5 takes it to a whole new level. With a very good story line, and dynamic cut scenes, and powerful and upgradeable weapons, you will have no hard time blowing off some zombie heads.


Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Convictions: Splinter Cell: Conviction introduces a number of new gameplay features to the series, one of which is the "Mark and Execute" feature, which allows the player to mark specific targets, such as enemies or objects, and shoot them when they burst through a door or window. The player can choose to prioritize these targets, so that, for example, he could distract one guard by shooting out a light in his vicinity and then take out another guard. Another new feature is the "Last Known Position", which occurs when the player breaks the line of sight of an alerted guard. This creates a visual silhouette of where the guard thinks Sam is, allowing the player to strategically flank his enemies. Main target subjects can use the player's abilities against them. The player can be taken hostage by the subject. If this happens in co-op mode, the hostage's partner can neutralize the subject by shooting them.

My Feedback: Splinter Cell Convictions is a very exciting stealth kind of game. And with an added bonus of it being co-op, you can play with a good friend throughout the whole thing. This makes for some very fun gameplay.


X-Men Origins: Wolverine: The game allows players to take control of James "Logan" Howlett (codenamed Wolverine) and for the first time in a video game discover the character's origins. When Wolverine sustains injuries the damage will be reflected on his character as chunks of his flesh and clothes are removed, and his injuries will heal in real-time, allowing you to see his muscles and skin grow back. Combat relies on three options - light attacks, heavy attacks, and grabs, mapped to one button apiece - but doesn't ask players to memorize long combo strings.

My Feedback: This game is a lot of fun, and addicting. It follows the Movie pretty well, but not exact. This is main;y a hack-n-slash game, but does require some puzzle solving sometimes. I definitely recommend picking this one up.


Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood: Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a Western themed first-person shooter video game set in the years of 1864-1866. The story begins with Ray and Thomas pointing their guns at each other. William laments on how things degenerated between them to the point of them becoming mortal enemies. Flash to several years ago, Ray and Thomas are fighting in the American Civil War. After they defeat the enemy, they are ordered to retreat to Jonesboro. They refuse, deserting their posts to save their home from Union troops.

My Feedback: I picked this game up not to long ago, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. If you like Old Western Shooting games, this would be one to get. If you ever played the old "Red Dead Revolver" game, it reminded me a lot of that game.


Role Playing Games

Diablo II: Diablo II is a dark fantasy-themed action role-playing game, with elements of the hack and slash and "dungeon roaming" genres. The storyline of Diablo II progresses through four acts, with each act following a predetermined path and list of quests. Some quests are optional. The player assumes the role of a hero from one of five different character classes. Players fight monsters through wilderness areas and dungeons in order to level-up their character and gain better items.

My Feedback: Yes, and old game, but still a classic and very great game. It has hours of gameplay, and even though you do the same quest’s if you play through it multiple times, the drops are always different, and the gameplay is different depending on who you play as.


Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2: Mass Effect is an award-winning, bestselling series of science fiction RPG third person shooters developed by the Canadian company BioWare. A trilogy of games is planned to be released, each continuing the game's story in chronological order. The second game in the trilogy was released in January 2010. The Mass Effect series combines science fiction, action game and role-playing game elements, with the main series games being third-person shooters. The protagonist can use two AI-controlled squad members in battle; which consists of members he or she has recruited, from various places and for various reasons, and taken onto the Normandy, Shepard's starship.

My Feedback: Yes, yes, and yes! Mass Effect 1 and 2 are amazing games. The story line was very well done, and the combat is diverse and fun. This game offers a lot, and one of my favorite aspects of the game is you can choose the dialog on what to say. A must have for any PC gamer, hands down.


Fallout 3: Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game released by Bethesda Game Studios, and is the third major game in the Fallout series. Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 36 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse that devastated the game's world in a future where international conflicts culminated in a Sino-American war in the second half of the 21st century. The game places the player in the role of an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect a small number of humans from the nuclear fallout. When the player's character's father disappears under mysterious circumstances, he or she is forced to escape from the Vault and journey into the ruins of Washington D.C. to track him down. Along the way the player is assisted by a number of human survivors and must battle myriad enemies that now inhabit the area now known as the "Capital Wasteland". The game has an attribute and combat system typical of an action strategy game but also incorporates elements of first-person shooter and survival horror games.

My Feedback: With a unique combat system, and a level up system, this is a go anywhere, do what you want type of game. You can choose to follow the main story line, or go off and explore the world for yourself, the choice is yours. A very fun game, and a must have.


Dragon Age - Origins: Dragon Age: Origins is a role-playing video game developed by BioWare's Edmonton studio. The game incorporates "origins" for each race and some classes. For example, a dwarf noble begins the game as part of the royal family in one of the dwarven cities, whereas the dwarf commoner origin story begins on the streets of the city. Origin stories determine the background of the player's character prior to the main events of the game's story, forming an introduction to the world while also comprising hours of play. Characters that the player meets during the origin story may reappear throughout the game, some as adversaries.

My Feedback: Out of the many games on this list, this is one of the few I have not had the pleasure to play. But this game has gotten great reviews, and a lot of people here on NBR recommend it, so what’s to lose?


The Witcher: The Witcher is a computer role-playing game for the PC developed by CD Projekt RED STUDIO and published by CD Projekt in Poland and Atari for the rest of the world. The Witcher takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of Geralt, one of a few remaining "witchers" — traveling monster hunters for hire, gifted with unnatural powers. The game's system of "moral choices" as part of the storyline was noted for its time-delayed consequences and lack of black-and-white morality.

My Feedback: This game slightly older, but still very fun to play. You get to travel to different areas, exploring areas and meeting new people. With many quests to do, it will keep you busy for some time.


Oblivion – The Elder Scrolls IV: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (or Oblivion) is a single-player role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios, and published by Bethesda Softworks and the Take-Two Interactive subsidiary 2K Games. Oblivion's main story revolves around the player character's efforts to thwart a fanatical cult who plan to open the gates to a hellish realm called Oblivion and unleash its horrors on the mortal world. The game continues the open-world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

My Feedback: Another older game, but still a classic. This game is another “go anywhere, do anything”. It has a vast variety of weapons, and offers the player to level up their character. There is also a list of endless mod’s available on the internet that only enhances the gameplay.


Borderlands: Borderlands is a science fiction first-person shooter with RPG elements that was developed by Gearbox Software. Borderlands is a first-person shooter that includes character-building elements found in role-playing games, leading to Gearbox calling the game a "role-playing shooter". At the start of the game, players select one of four characters, each with a unique special skill and with proficiencies with certain weapons.

My Feedback: A truly fun and exciting game. With millions of combination of weapons (yes, I said millions), there is a lot in the game to love. You can follow the main story line, or complete side quests, or run around shooting anything that moves. With a party of friends, hours of fun can pass by in what seem like minutes.


Baldur's Gate Series: Baldur's Gate is a popular series of computer role-playing games that take place on Faerûn, the main continent from Dungeons & Dragons's Forgotten Realms campaign setting, set in the years following the cataclysmic Time of Troubles (1358 DR). The games are based on a real-time modification of the second edition AD&D (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons) ruleset. The player's party can have up to six members, either created by the player according to the AD&D rules or NPCs recruited by the protagonist from the game world. Numerous side quests and plot twists are associated with particular NPCs and can be activated if they are found in the player's party. Through extensive, context-dependent dialogue, many characters inside and outside the player's party are fleshed out and given an added level of complexity.

My Feedback: Not having played this game much myself, I am told it is a fun series with AD&D ruleset. If other RTS games don't interest you, this one might.



Neverwinter Nights 2: Neverwinter Nights 2 (also known as NWN2) is a computer role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Atari. It is the sequel to BioWare's Neverwinter Nights, based on the Dungeons & Dragons pencil and paper fantasy role-playing game. Neverwinter Nights 2 utilizes an adaptation of the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition rules. Neverwinter Nights 2 is a role-playing game based on the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition ruleset. Before the game begins, players build a player character in accordance with the character creation rules of Dungeons & Dragons, which includes selecting a race and class, then assigning skill points. There are 12 classes available, including the rogue and the wizard. Neverwinter Nights 2 makes use of the d20 system seen in Dungeons & Dragons, where a "die roll" or random number is used to determine the probability and effectiveness of every action, including attacks and saving throws. The player character may gain the assistance of up to four or more party members, who can be controlled directly by the player or given orders dictating how to behave in combat.

My Feedback: Another fun D&D based game. With a customizable character selection, and diverse gameplay, this is sure to be a crowd pleaser.


Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic Series: The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series, often abbreviated as KotOR, is a comic book and a computer RPG video game series based on the fictional universe of Star Wars by George Lucas. The game's system is based on Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, which is based on the d20 role-playing game system derived from the Third Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules. Combat is round-based; time is divided into discrete rounds, and combatants attack and react simultaneously. However, the number of actions a combatant may perform each round is limited. While each round's duration is a fixed short interval of real time, the player can configure the combat system to pause at specific events or at the end of each round.

My Feedback: A good RPG gameplay, with lightsabers and force powers, what more could you want? And with an expected release date of 2011, the third installment of this game is supposed to be promising.


Sim City Series: SimCity is an open-ended city-building computer and console video game series and the brainchild of developer Will Wright. In SimCity, the player is given the task of founding a city, while maintaining the happiness of the citizens and keeping a stable budget. In SimCity 2000, SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4, the player is allowed to alter the terrain of the city before building on it.

My Feedback: A very fun RTS game. You get to build whole city's with massive buildings to your liking, and all the while keeping your population happy, and safe from any danger that might be around the corner.


Deus Ex: Deus Ex (abbreviated DX[1] and pronounced /ˌdeɪəsˈɛks/, day-us-eks) is a cyberpunk-themed action role-playing game developed by Ion Storm Inc. and published by Eidos Interactive in the year 2000, which combines gameplay elements of first-person shooters with those of role playing games. Set in a dystopian world during the 2050s, the central plot follows rookie United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition agent JC Denton, as he sets out to combat terrorist forces, which have become increasingly prevalent in a world slipping ever further into chaos. As the plot unfolds, Denton becomes entangled in a deep and ancient conspiracy, encountering fictional recreations of organizations such as Majestic 12, the Illuminati, and the Hong Kong Triads throughout his journey.

My Feedback: A very fun RPG mixed with FPS, this is a good combination rolled into one. The game may be a little older, but with good gameplay and an interesting story line, this one is a classic.


Real Time Strategy

Command & Conquer Series: Command & Conquer (often abbreviated as C&C or CnC) is a video game franchise, mostly of the real-time strategy style. Command & Conquer gameplay typically requires the player to construct a base and acquire resources, in order to fund the ongoing production of various types of forces with which to assault and conquer the opponent's base. All available structures of the faction chosen by the player are constructed on-site at so-called "construction yard" - which typically begin as large-sized vehicles capable of deploying themselves into the aforementioned construction yards. When a construction yard has finished building a new structure, the player can select a spot near to a preexisting structure in order to place it, where the prefabricated building will then rapidly unfold in a distinctive manner.

My Feedback: Some of the best RTS games are C&C games. Personally, my favorite is C&C 3: Tiberium War. A fun game with real life cut scenes, it offers a lot to any fan of RTS games.


Starcraft: StarCraft is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the 26th century, the game revolves around three species fighting for dominance in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy: the Terrans, humans exiled from Earth skilled at adapting to any situation; the Zerg, a race of insectoids in pursuit of genetic perfection obsessed with assimilating other races; and the Protoss, a humanoid species with advanced technology and psionic abilities attempting to preserve their civilization and strict philosophical way of living from the Zerg. The game has been praised for pioneering the use of unique factions in real-time strategy gameplay and for a compelling story.

My Feedback: Starcraft has been praised as one of the best RTS games of all time, and for good reason. It offers a lot to any RTS fan, and should definitely be tried out. Especially since Starcraft 2 is coming out, and if it is anything like the first, we are all in for a real treat.


Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game game developed by Relic Entertainment. Gameplay is initially focused on capturing and holding strategic locations on the battlefield. These control points are captured by infantry squads and provide resources to construct additional units and buildings or unlock certain units in an army's tech tree. Battles are won either by holding a certain number of control points for a period of time or by destroying all of the opposing armies' HQ structures.

My Feedback: Another game I have not yet had the pleasure to play, feedback from users who have played it say it is a good RTS game. More information on the game can be found on the link above.


Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War II: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is a real-time strategy/tactical role-playing video game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by THQ. Dawn of War II features a non-linear interplanetary campaign, playable as the Space Marines. The campaign can be played either as single-player or cooperatively with another player through an online connection. The game's campaign departs from those of its predecessors in several key features. One of the most notable departures is that there are no base-building elements, unlike in previous Dawn of War titles. Instead, the player chooses the units to be used prior to beginning a mission, cannot build new units once the mission begins, and has only limited reinforcement options.

My Feedback: One thing to know about this game is that it is very different from the first. But this is a unique RTS game, and is very fun to play and differs from a lot of other RTS games.


Company of Heroes: Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy computer game developed by Relic Entertainment. Company of Heroes is set during World War II. In the single-player campaign the player commands two U.S. military units during the Battle of Normandy and the Allied capture of France. Depending on the mission, the player controls either Able Company of the 29th Infantry Division or Fox Company of the 101st Airborne's 506th PIR. Players must take control of certain points on the map. The more of these points a player controls, the more resources they acquire. This concept demands constant expansion of a player's territory. These points are connected like supply lines, and so, during the course of a battle a player can capture one point in the supply line, isolating the rest which had been connected to the base through it, therefore reducing the enemy's resource intake.

My Feedback: Another good game for any RTS fan. If you want a good Military style RTS game, with good graphics, and a high replay value, this is a game to look into.


World in Conflict: World in Conflict, or WiC, is a real-time tactical video game developed by the Swedish video game company Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft (formerly Sierra Entertainment) for Microsoft Windows. World in Conflict does not offer base-building or resource gathering. Instead, players are given a pre-determined amount of in-game reinforcement points to buy units. When a player buys a unit, the reinforcements points are subtracted from the point bank and the units are airdropped to the field, with a 20-second wait for the units to arrive. When a unit is destroyed, the points that had been used to purchase it are slowly filtered back to the player: thus reinforcements can be summoned back into the fray. Tactical gameplay lacking base- and unit building is similar to real-time tactics (RTT) games, some of which feature intermittent reinforcements.

My Feedback: A good RTS game. Mow down your opposition with superior firepower, and defeat those who stand in your way.


Sins of a Solar Empire: Sins of a Solar Empire is a science fiction real-time strategy computer game developed by Ironclad Games and published by Stardock Entertainment. Sins of a Solar Empire is a space-bound game. The playing field is a 3D web of planets and other celestial objects in the orbital plane of one or more stars. It features a sandbox mode, allowing the player to choose different types of solar systems to unlock achievements. Players can conquer neighboring planets and explore distant star systems in a "massively scaled, fully 3D environment featuring entire galaxies, orbiting planets, clusters of asteroids, space dust and radiant stars." Notably, there is no single-player campaign mode, but games can be played against AI opponents offline and other players online.

My Feedback: Another good RTS game based in space, this game has gotten great reviews, and has something for any space fan. With a high replay value, this is a good game to check out.


BattleForge: BattleForge is a video game developed by EA Phenomic and published by Electronic Arts. There are a total of 325 cards available, almost equally divided between the powers of fire, frost, nature, and shadow. With a recent update, there are now combinations of shadow/fire, frost/nature, frost/shadow and fire/nature. Players can buy and sell cards at an in-game auction house, using BattleForge Points (BF Points), an in-game currency. Players can also invite each other to conduct a direct trade.

My Feedback: A good RTS game with a fun PvE and PvP system, along with a trade system, there is a lot for everybody here.


Turn-Based

Civilization 4: Sid Meier's Civilization IV (also known as Civilization 4 or Civ4) is a turn-based strategy computer game released in 2005 and developed by lead designer Soren Johnson under the direction of Sid Meier and Meier's studio Firaxis Games. Civilization IV is a turn-based game in which the player builds an empire from very limited initial resources. All standard full-length games begin in 4000 BC with a settler who builds a single city. From there, the player expands an empire while contending with rival nations, using the geography, developing infrastructure, and encouraging scientific and cultural progress. By default, players can win the game by accomplishing one of five goals: conquering all other civilizations, controlling a supermajority of the world's land and population, being the first to land a sleeper ship in the Alpha Centauri star system, increasing the Culture ratings of three different cities to "legendary" levels, or by being declared "World Leader" by winning a popularity election through the United Nations. If the game's clock runs out (by default in the year 2050 AD) with none of these goals fulfilled by any nation, the nation with the highest score is declared the winner.

My Feedback: Now this is a game I remember playing. This was a really fun turn-based style game. It offers a lot of different choices on how to play the game. You can rule the world with peace, or violence, or study science, the choice is yours, and the world is yours....if you can take it.


Total War Series: Total War is a strategy game series developed by the Creative Assembly. Its games combine turn-based strategy and resource management, with real-time tactical control of battles.

My Feedback: Another good Turn-Based style game. With three games to choose from, there is sure to be one you like.


Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game

World of Warcraft: World of Warcraft, often referred to as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment. As with other MMORPGs, players control a character avatar within a game world in third- or first-person view, exploring the landscape, fighting various monsters, completing quests, and interacting with non-player characters (NPCs) or other players. Also similar to other MMORPGs, World of Warcraft requires the player to pay for a subscription, either by buying prepaid game cards for a selected amount of playing time, or by using a credit or debit card to pay on a regular basis.

My Feedback: Ok, by now everyone should know what World of Warcraft is, or have at least tried it. But if you haven't, they have a free trial period with no payment, so you can play before you pay. And there is A LOT to do in this game, you will be playing it for years.


Runescape: RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2001 by Jagex Ltd. RuneScape takes place in the world of Gielinor, a medieval fantasy realm divided into several different kingdoms, regions, and cities. Players can travel throughout Gielinor on foot, through use of magical teleportation spells and devices, and via numerous other methods, such as charter ships. Each region offers different types of monsters, resources, and quests to challenge players.

My Feedback: Now now, please try to keep the laughter under control. Runescape has come a long way in the graphical department, and there is a lot to do in this game, that will keep you busy for years and years. I have played over 4 years myself, and it is still a fun game from time to time.


Platform/Side Scrolling

Trine: Trine is a side-scrolling action platform and puzzle video game, available for the PC and PlayStation Network. The player controls and switches between three different characters (a thief, a knight, and a wizard) to try to complete levels. There is also a cooperative play feature, whereby multiple players can join in at any time to control different characters simultaneously.

My Feedback: There has been a while since a good side-scrolling game has been made. Most games use 3D now, so it's a nice change of pace. This game looks promising, and should definitely be checked out.


Racing

Dirt 2: Colin McRae: Dirt 2 (known as Dirt 2 outside Europe and stylised, DiRT) is a racing game released in September 2009, and is the sequel to Colin McRae: Dirt. Colin McRae: Dirt 2 features five racing disciplines, all of which are playable offline (against AI bots when applicable) and online. In addition, three 'special modes' are included. Colin McRae: Dirt 2 runs on an updated version of the EGO engine, which powered Codemasters' Race Driver: Grid as well. The engine features, most notably, an updated physics engine, which models realistic weight transfer during turning maneuvers, allowing the player to incorporate advanced driving techniques, such as the Scandinavian flick.

My Feedback: A very fun and exciting racing game. It features off road courses, and road courses. Add a driving wheel to it, and you will think you are actually driving.


Need for Speed - Shift: Need for Speed: Shift is the 13th installment of the long-running racing video game franchise Need for Speed; published by Electronic Arts.

My Feedback: The ever gowing popular franchise, only gets bigger. Need for Speed offers some of the best racing games around. With some of the best graphics, and real-world handling, you have one hell of a racing game.


Simulation

The Sims 3: The Sims 3 is a strategic life simulation video game in The Sims franchise, originally created by Maxis. Sim houses and neighborhoods are entirely in one continuous map, and the developers have stated, "What you do outside your home now matters as much as what you do within." The game includes an optional feature called "Story Progression", which allows all NPC Sims in the neighborhood to autonomously continue as if the player was controlling them, such as grow up, get married, get jobs and promotions, have children, build their dream house or buy a house, and so forth.

My Feedback: One of the best Simulation games ever made. The Sims allow you to make a character, and have him/her live their life how you see fit. There life is in your hands....literally.


RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, commonly abbreviated RCT3, is a strategy and simulation computer game. It is the third installment in the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, and was first released on October 26, 2004 in North America. Like the previous games in the series, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is a strategy and simulation game in which players manage all aspects of an amusement park by building or removing rides, scenery and amenities, adjusting the park's finances, hiring staff, and keeping the park visitors, known as "peeps", happy. RollerCoaster Tycoon features two main game modes. The career mode features scenarios where players must accomplish goals, such as impressing a visiting celebrity or attaining a certain park rating. Each scenario has three levels of objectives, which are ranked as Apprentice, Entrepreneur, and Tycoon; the higher the level, the more challenging the goal is to complete. A third of the scenarios are playable from the start, with the rest unlocked when the player completes the objectives at each level. The second mode of play is the sandbox mode. Players are given a large, empty plot of land and unlimited funds with which to build their own custom parks.

My Feedback: This is an awesome Simulation game. Ever wanted to build your own Theme Park, and make your own custom roller coaster rides? Well then, this game is for you.


Flight Simulator X: Microsoft Flight Simulator X, also known FSX, is the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator after Flight Simulator 2004. Flight Simulator X marks the tenth version of the popular line of flight simulators. It was officially released to the US market on October 17, 2006. According to Microsoft's Web site for the game, a standard edition features everything from navaids to GPS and airways. It also includes 18 planes, 28 detailed cities, and 40 highly detailed airports. The deluxe version features 24 types of aircraft, and 38 highly detailed cities.

My Feedback: Ever wanted to know how to fly a plane without actually using a real plane? The this game is for you. Now you don't need to pack that parachute.

Just to correct, the screen shot you had of warhammer 40k dawn of war is actually dawn of war 2. IMO DoW 2 fails compared to DoW.

 

Definitely is was a radical change from the original RTS.

 

Great job, and that is a nice list. I would recommend Civilization 4 and Dawn of War II to the RTS games (Civilization 4 is actually turn-based).

Also, Rainbox 6: Vegas 2 is a great FPS.

 

You can add Doom 3 to the survival/horror section if you want. I think the first Far-cry is a decent game.

Specifically, a tactical turn-based mechfighting game, where you control a squad of mechs, and have the ability to outfit them with various weapons, armor, addons, etc on multiple hardpoints. Mech pilots increase in level and gain abilities. And different mechs have different advantages, such as speed, sensor range, firepower, etc.

I really loved this game back in the day and would love to know of similar games that are more modern.

One question guys, is Resident Evil 5 playable with keyboard and mouse? For example, I find very playable Assassins Creed with key board and mouse.

One comment to the first post: Stalker: Call of Prypiat is the 3rd installment of the series. Stalker: clear sky is the 2nd installment but is the prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl. Thus... the information posted should say CoP is the 3rd installment but is the story sequel of SC.

Recommend me an FPS that isn't made by Sony/EA. It has to be multiplayer. It can't be from the Battlefield series, because those games are jokes and if you like them you are stupid.

My favorite games now are CS:S, DoD:S, and TF2. I used to be a huge fan of AvP2, and then when the new one came out, I realized it was a SLOPPY, sloppy pc port. Damn thing was auto-aiming for me. I was like, "THIS IS NOT AN XBOX CONTROLLER MAN - LET ME CONTROL THE RETICULE". That game pissed me off.

I just bought a quad core, and I have two Intel SSD's. I have very little, if any, bottleneck on my system. It's probably a toss-up between my connection and my processor. I'm looking for anything with a decent online community. I am NOT looking for anything from the Battlefield, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Bad Company 2, series. Those games are shoddily coded and put out with a price tag before they're done. Then the company releases crappy patches that do nothing but screw more things up. It's a never ending cycle, and the games are LOADED with malware.

Note: I did not find Crysis amusing. The online play sucked. I don't care how pretty the visuals are. Forgettable. Looking for something that can be played over and over again without being repetitive.

I believe the Koreans/japanese are going nuts over Alliance of Valient Arms. A F2P game also. Supposed to be a more realistic updated version of CS.

Uses the Unreal 3 Engine. All the comparisons are to COD:MW, but I think it compares more closely to CS.

Sudden Attack was the biggest FPS game in Korea/Japan for a long time. AVA is supposed to be the next evolution of SA. And SA was designed to mimic CS. I really don't understand the comparisons to COD:MW...

I have been looking to get into a new Online RPG, but I am unsure of what to get into. I was formally a member of Ultima Online, which has gone downhill since 2001. I was looking at Star Trek Online but the reviews on Amazon aren't too good. I have heard EVE Online is awesome but extremely cruel and very very time consuming.

It seems Age of Conan is the only one sticking out right now as a good RPG. I know some of you will say to get WoW but I want something different.


Diablo III looks sweet, but the ETA release date is unknown.


Recommendations ?

 

I recommend WoW. You'll end up playing it in the end anyways.

Almost all the Pay2Play MMOs now have trial periods and other are Free2Play. Just try them for yourselves instead of depending on other people's opinions.

 

i heard there are quite a few MMOG or what ever the acrinim (sp?) is for it coming out, i used to play WoW had my account for about 9 to 10months and just got bored in the end, i may go back some time in the future but i am awaiting FF14 never played FF1 but will defo give the new one a go

 

Lord of the Rings Online > WoW

WoW is becoming extremely dumbed-down so players can advance quickly at low levels in order to catch up to the new content. Not to mention LotRO does not have motorcycles as mounts.

Age of Conan was a good MMO until about a month after launch. Then everything got nerfed, including the so-called 'mature' content. Funcom pretty much ruined the AoC experience and instead decided to focus their energy on the upcoming Secret World. There are rumors that AoC will eventually become free-to-play. Graphically AoC is still one of the nicest MMOs to play, tho'.

While I think overall EVE Online is one of the best mmos available it is not for everyone. It has a high learning curve and the open sandbox environment makes it either confusing or intimidating to the new player. Stick with it and can be a rewarding experience. I also like the unique skill system it employs where characters can skill over time offline. It's fun to plan character goals this way.

 

i have never played WoW but if i was i love the idea of faster lvling to catch up.

Eve is not for every one,myself included. Was fun for a few weeks but with hundreds and hundreds of skills to learn it got lame pretty fast. now if i was to start with all skills being lvl 3 i would still be playing.

 

i am the other way round - its better at the later levels as that takes like several million xp to level up - which takes longer which i find good. But i just got bored of it, once you have done it once you have done it and if like me you hate repition then it gets boring fast - a good guild is a must! the thing that helped me decided to leave was that the guild i was in started to die off and people started to leave

You must understand... the game is dumbed down so 7-yr-olds are max level in a few weeks. Because of this max-level players who haven't the slightest clue of how to play their character are the norm. (DDs repeately tanking mobs they shouldn't even be getting hit on and then complaining why they didn't get heals when they pretty much insta-died)

Most people who play are mentally under the age of 13. It's like paying to babysit a bunch of poorly behaved 13-yr-olds. The community is among the worst of any game out right now. Because of no community, even beginners max out and get bored.

Honestly, you can't do much worse than WoW.

Age of Conan was amazing for the first 20 levels and then quickly ran out of content.
I have been tempted to try it again after they have fixed some of the problems.
I still hate that they nerfed the R content. (blood and gore is okay, but nipples are horrible?)

AION! even though i have never played it, it looks fantastic. Except for the monthly fee.

 

i would say Guild Wars, as there is no monthly cost you can relax and take more time to enjoy yourself. i find with games where you have to pay each month you want to cram as much time playing it so that you feel that you are getting your moneys worth. if you dont mind about paying each month then WoW or Aion would be good options as well

 

I second Guild Wars, I have played it, stopped playing, played, stopped etc several times. In this respect it has much more replay value than a game where you have to pay every month.

Can you folks recommend me a helicopter sim? I know about DCS: Black Shark, which I will buy soon, but I was looking for a game that models the AH-64A Apache and/or the AH-64D Longbow Apache. If it models the (cancelled) RAH-66 Comanche it is a plus. It doesn't have to be very recent.

Kindly tell about some racing games and sports based games...

 

I don't know about Sports, but for Racing I recently have been playing Need for Speed: Shift and Dirt 2.

NFS Shift is good, with awesome car customization, but I am not a big fan of the driving.

Dirt 2 is very fun off road/road driving. Not a lot of car customization, but the gameplay makes up for it.

If I had to choose, I would choose Dirt 2.

 

Trackmania Nations, which is free and has lots of tracks.

 

NFS Carbon is the most enjoyable to me much better than Trackmania anytime. NFS MW is ok..but its a bit stressful to reach the milestones they set.

 

Can anyone recommend me any uber realistic racing sims? I'm looking for something that was released in 2009 or newer.

If there aren't any, are there any that have been announced to be released in the near future?

Edit: I'm not interested in any arcade-style racers, regardless of how popular or how pretty they look. I know NFS:S is considered to be more on the sim end of the racing spectrum, but from what I've read, it's still not realistic enough. Supposedly, it gives you the impression of realism, but there is still a lot that you can get away with.
