Normally a console gamer guy... Mainly because the online multiplayer base is bigger and I can play with friends...
I recently bought a Q9000 + GTX 260M laptop for gaming and watching TV on it. I have no idea what games to play on it. Don't recommend World of Warcraft - I have been banned from it several times, the game just isn't fun anymore.
As for types of games I like... I like RPG's (Fallout, Oblivion, etc), First Person Shooters, Adventure Games, maybe racing games, puzzle games, RTS, strategy games... Basically, games you can accomplish things or unlock things in or work towards a goal. Like unlocking new cars, etc. I also really really like online multiplayer, PvP, etc. Open to other MMO's too... I am mulling over Aion right now, but I am not sure if it is worth it. I am waiting for the new Final Fantasy online as well. I am open to just about any suggestions...
As of now, I have Torchlight, Dragon Age Origins, Fallout 3 and Plants versus Zombies. I am downloading the Eve demo on Steam right now too. Thanks in advance for the help!

I wouldnt call 80,000 people playing MW2 on the PC online right now "small", not to mention that STEAM and IW.net parties make it REALLY easy to play with friends.
Oh yeah, we don't have to worry about whiny 12yr old's either. -

Well there's nobody online for Torchlight, Fallout 3 etc... Didn't know it was a requirement. That being said it is a worthy SP game or fun co-op with friends. Can't see why there's no-one online, game is pretty new?

Also, if you've been banned on WoW so many times maybe you should lay off other multiplayer games so you don't annoy other people with your hacks/glitches/spam/griefing/racism/etc.
-
I honestly do not care about being banned from World of Warcraft. I don't grief or spam, and I am not racist. You are being condescending for no reason
As far as Xbox, it is more fun in quite a few aspects. And none of my friends game on their PC's. I wanted to play MW2 with them. Easy decision. As far as Borderlands, I went onto the online portion quite a few times and there were only 4-5 rooms open, and I have been reading in quite a few places that online play is currently gimped. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or not. Borderlands seemed like more of an online game to me too. -

People don't get banned for no reason.
-
I don't see why you are stuck on that. -
-
No wai. I got banned for exploiting the economy and breaking the spirit of the game (Whatever that means, AccountAdmin is too vague), as well as using Linux. I also got banned for changing the model of a Campfire to a Dark Portal (Creative, huh?) and I used the stairs to get to areas I normally wouldn't be able to. I skipped areas of instances, etc. Regardless, my actions didn't really affect other players. No god mode hacks here. At least I'm honest. -
usapatriot, leave the poor guy alone. We're not here to judge, and if he does cause trouble in another game, he'll be banned from individual servers at the very least, possibly a PunkBuster or VAC ban if it's really bad.
Sours, I definitely recommend you give Team Fortress 2 a try. It's crazy multiplayer class-based fun, even more so with good friends (or a fun clan), and as you keep playing you can earn achievements, unlockable weapons, and cosmetic stuff like hats.
Also, you know about MW2 already, so I won't go into detail, but I definitely recommend it on the PC as well, not to mention its predecessors CoD4 and World at War. -
Master, what happened to your Dell?
Anyways, I played Team Fortress 2 when it first came out, along with Portals. It was on my older HP... However... This happened to it, so I don't really have it any more lol
-
Sours I think we have similar taste in games haha, I'm all about "achieving" something or unlocks or leveling up.
Borderlands is good, but yeah better with friends. I'm currently playing DA:O, Torchlight, and MW2. I played PvZ a ton too. Loved Oblivion, never got around to finish Fallout though. I too can recommend TF2, it's very heavy on stat tracking which is fun, unlocking randomly and via achievements which is nice - it's class based so it kind of gets that feel of an small instanced MMO PVP'ing. I enjoyed WoW PvP a lot but it's not worth the $15/month just to pvp which I was doing. There's also Killing Floor - FPS w/ rpg elements, unlocks and classes, map based zombie killing in waves. The support for the game has been very good. Two major updates have been released.
My friend plays Aion and loves it though. How about Guild Wars? That's PvP based as well as missions for PvE. No monthly subs. -
I'm looking at the Asus G-series right now, notably the G60VX and G72GX. -
I agree with Shroom, it's not our place to patronize others.
You already have the newer games I was going to suggest. Here are some older ones:
-Mass Effect
-Oblivion (mods definitely make it worth a second go...and third...and fourth...)
-Orange Box
Look for Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 when they come out. -
I have the best buy model, dropped in a new harddrive. It is a great computer. Gets a bit hot, but it has a crystal clear screen, comfortable keyboard, nice mouse (love the bubbles), and the lighting is nice but not over the top. -
Yeah, I demoed both the G60VX and G72GX at Best Buy last week, both feel really nice, but I'm leaning towards the G72 at this point. The huge touchpad is definitely a plus. I see your "lemon" Q9000 gets to 2.35GHz...how high do they normally get? And is the overclocking done via the BIOS? I was considering the P8700 version at 2.53GHz stock, but if the Q9000 can comfortably get above 2.4GHz, I may go for that.

-
OK, tried it again, got a little higher. If I messed with voltages I could prob get 2.4.
-
What exactly happens? Does the laptop just not boot, or do you keep getting blue screens?
-
Running CPU stresstests to check it out for you... I have been looking around, apparently those who OC'd it to 2.5-2.8ish just got lucky, and 2.4+ is rough territory too. Orthos is running fine as of now too. CPU temp is manageable without a cooler, and GPU is overclocked as well. I have hit 100+ on Furmark with no cooler, highest gaming is 93.

Any other less mainstream games? I have played just about every game out in the last 4 years that has been on consoles...
-
Counter Strike Source?
Battlefield 2? (much better than console versions)
Crysis? (might be a great one for you) -
Going to get Crysis soon. Mulling over getting Guild Wars on Steam... Is it worth it to buy it this late in? Is the PvP aspect of it very fun? Grouping still easily done, large server populations? How about PvE? Which one should I get?
-
you can create a pvp only character that is at max level 20 and has the skills.. so it's a more even battlefield among characters, although not on skillset..since you'll be a noob still -
I didn't see or maybe I just don't recall reading any guide lines for suggesting
you a game but how about.. >.> Final Fantasy 11? no? ok.. Diablo 2 so you
don't have to pay monthly fees? no? hmm.. hmm.. pac man! no?
Well I just don't know off the top of my head atm =p incase u really said no. -

r u a g0ld f4rm3r?
Maybe get Torchlight or wait for Diablo 3 to quench your unethical ways. -
I already have beat Torchlight under the Alchemist, well, finished the main story (afaik?).
Anyways, I guess I have played most games then? Looking for something fresh and new. Tried Eve online last night, but so far it is going hellla slow. Not sure if I should continue or not.
Anyways, any less mainstream games? I have played most of the ones you guys have suggested. I like RTS, RPG, Adventure, Action, Racing... Lol, I am really looking hard for something to play. -
Guild Wars is definitely a fun game, but not so much for the PvE action IMO. You can create instant max level PvP characters that can do things like Arenas, Battlegrounds, Guild vs Guild battles (intense), and other PvP related stuff, while unlocking skills, better armor enchants, bla bla bla. A few years ago I stopped playing the PvE aspect of the game because it's turned into just farming dungeons over and over again with a very specific group make up (in other words, if you happen to choose your first character that isn't in high demand for the end game farming groups, you're pretty much group-locked out).
As far as the server goes, there's just one, but cities and towns have multiple districts that can hold a large amount of players at one time. Let's say you travel to Lion's Arch (a very busy and annoying town >< ). You'll be placed in district 3 let's say. If you want to be in a more populated district, just go to the top left of the screen, hit the drop arrow, select district 1, and enjoy the spam. I'm pretty much out of the GW community, but sometimes I hop on the forums and read about the QQ. Graphics are refreshing, not cartoon-y like WoW is.
PvP is the best though, considering that there isn't a subscription fee. That steam deal last weekend was amazing but I guess you're too late for it now. Meh....it might not be worth it, but it was definitely a big part of my "gaming" life heh. Now I'm a TF2 and DoD addict >< -
Thanks for the continued help guys, I appreciate it. I do have the original Guild Wars somewhere around my house...
-
Race Driver: GRID,
NFS SHIFT,
Crysis,
Farcry (oldie but goodie),
Wolfenstein

-
I'm sure if I were to play the PC version it would totally freak me out too much. Highly recommended. -
-
Dragon age is a great game
-
oh yeah Bioshock kicks , small rpg elements in that you harvest girls or save the little sisters to get currency to upgrade weapons or buy skills. awesome game indeed.
Recommend me something to play...
