Hey gang, sporting an Alienware m11x right now, and it's starting to show its age. I haven't kept up with laptop components over the past couple years...Any recommendations regarding which specs are recommended these days? I'd like to play current games at High settings.
Is 8gb of RAM sufficient? Is a 1gb video card sufficient? Is Ivy Bridge pretty much required? Any recommended setups? I saw this MSI that looks pretty sweet...

8 GB of RAM is sufficient if you are going to just be gaming and mid-level multitasking. 4 GB is basically the minimum if you need a baseline. With everything going x64, 4 GB is the way to go as a baseline.
1 GB of VRAM is required if you are going to be gaming with high-resolutions in mind and most GPU's that will run at these resolutions should be able to fully utilize 1 GB of VRAM. If a card can't saturate 1 GB of VRAM when gaming, then that card you picked isn't good. Most people are looking at 1.5 to 2 GB of VRAM be utilized for most gaming setting, however those cards has to be obviously powerful enough to even use that much VRAM and the onces recommended for gaming or graphics-related applications are often able to do so.
Ivy Bridge is not necessary the requirement for getting good gaming graphics or performance. However a quad-core is usually the standard. A Sandy Bridge or even Clarksfield is sufficient for today's gaming needs and even into the future.
