And what's wrong with fans spinning up? That's what they are there to do, to stop it from heating up too much during intensive operation.

Plus, you'd think that anyone who is playing a game would either be wearing headphones, or have their speakers turned up, so you most likely wouldn't be able to hear it anyway.

The fans spin up regardless of the overclocking. As long as I can keep the temperatures in check and maintain stability in Furmark, I'm going to keep pushing this bad boy.

So far I've hit 8523 in 3dMark06 and I'm still pushing the core frequency. The memory started producing artifacts at 925mhz. Max GPU temp during Furmark Xtreme Burning Mode is 70C.

@Shadow: okay...maybe some people aren't so sensitive to sound. But the fans ARE quite loud.

i can't get 3dmark06. For unknown reasons, i simply can't download it. Every mirror i tried fails halfway.

Strange. Maybe it has to do with your location?

I believe I've reached the limit. I tested the core at 860mhz with absolutely no problems/artifacts, but setting it to 870mhz resulted in the display automatically turning into a mess of vertical lines. Memory is stable at 915mhz.

To put this in perspective, that's 185mhz core overclock and 115mhz memory overclock. GPU temp tops out in the low 70's. Of course, I'm not going to use these clocks for everyday gaming, as they're a bit outside my comfort zone. I'll be using more modest 800/900 clocks instead.

So is the fan on my A300. Don't you turn your speakers up when gaming though?...

Nice OC aznofazns! That is a massive OC on the core the highest I managed was 838 mhz in ati tool. Also 915mhz is pretty good for memory OC especially as you have 1GB meaning the memory sucks more power and is harder to cool. Perhaps you should rip the lower memory modules off :p

BTW I realised that OCing the core beyond 800mhz is pretty pointless as the frames barely increase for me when going beyond that. Memory wise though it is always well worth it to take it to the max. At 800/900mhz I got 11% increase in fps over stock in ati tool 3D view at 838/985.5mhz I got almost 25% increase in fps over stock. So it seems OCing the memory exponentially increases performance on a 128bit card..

edit: I just noticed that you got 120 points more than me on SM2.0 score and 150 points more on SM3.0 so it actually seems like 860 core clock and more than 512mb is addressable within the test giving you a higher score. I guess there is a pretty even balance in performance then between higher bandwidth achievable on 512mb 4670 cards and those with 1GB ram but with slightly less bandwidth due to lower achievable mem clock speeds. Interesting stuff.

Thanks! Yeah I noticed that increasing the memory clock led to more drastic score increases than increasing the core clock by the same amount. That's generally what happens when you have a 128-bit memory bus, as you said. Too bad my memory tops out much lower than yours.

Also, I think the memory in my 4670 may be DDR3, not GDDR3, which would make a slight difference. Not 100% sure though, as GPU-Z reports GDDR3.

Fans on? Shouldn't be a problem since majority of gamers use headphones/headsets while gaming.

Cool stuff going on here. IMO 3DMark06 is pretty heavily based on CPU, so if you want to increase the scores, I would think OC'ing the CPU would give you better results.

Then you should go for it. Your CPU will score higher than mine so you're potentially looking at almost 9000 points.

I'm going to have to use a cooler and pop off the underside, does that still count?

Of course it counts. As long as you can legitimately produce the score, I see no problems. I'm planning on applying some MX-2 on the CPU/GPU and using my Antec cooler once I have the time.
