Use a video camera. Insert the SD/MD whatever into your computer, done. Or connect the camera with USB/Firewire, done.

well there is only two different ways i have been able to figure out how to do it with hd like quality. basically you buy an avermedia avertv hd dvr capture card (one of the only ones to have hdmi input) these only run about $90. the problem with buying that though is the ps3 requires an hdcp compatible input device. (this capture card is not hdcp compliant) so you would need an hdcp stripper which is very big gamble because with hdcp protection "they" could just revoke the keys the device uses making it worthless . a big possibility considering it basically does an illegal act (breaking copy protection) this wouldnt be such a big problem if the stripper was was cheap but they usually run around $500. (last time i checked)

if you can find a capture card with an analog rgb input then you coold buy that and use an hdfury hdmi to vga converter even then it still isnt cheap as one of these runs at $200 (these seem to fall into a gray area in legality since it doesnt technically break copy protection)

EDIT: ok if you can live with just component hd then you can pretty much scratch everything i said above and buy the aver card i mentioned above. after a little more in depth research it seems the card a has component input via a 10 in one cable provided with the card. i dont think the ps3 has hdcp protection on the component so this should work although you might not be able to go 1080p i havent tried it though but i am greatly interested in the capture card now :D.

EDIT 2: completely spaced out that you wanted to do it on your laptop my bad :(
the only laptop that ive seen that could do this with hdmi would be the clevo x8100 Aka sager np 8120
