    My sepcs are:
    c2d p8400 2.26ghz
    geforce 9800gts
    4gb ram
    vista 64bit

    Anyway the game works fine but when I explode a structure it goes awfully slow. I just want to know how to fix this if possible.

    has to be compatibility issues, you have TOO MUCH raw performance for the game

    I get better performance playing all of these games from within a Vmware virtual computer running Windows XP. If I play these on my actual XP system I get major slow downs during explosions, random crashes etc. You could always try running it on a single core though.

    Ok, I have a saved game and Im about to annihilate there base with 30 prism tanks and I probably wont be able to enjoy the spectacle if its slow, what should I try to fix it. I have the latest patch but my cd is a little scratched. Should I try to run it in compatibility mode?

    EDIT: Compatibility mode didnt change anything.

    Strange, I can play RA2 on native res (1024x768) smoothly on my crappy Dell Inspiron 2200, and its specs aren't anything near yours. Make sure you have the latest patch, I think its 1.006 or something similar.

    It's as said before: it's a compatibility issue. Old games just don't like Vista (although some don't have any problem).

    That is kinda hilarious to have too much raw power for the gun to run correctly. What were the developpers thinking when they coded the game?

    I have the same CPU and it happens to me too.. Ridicules, that a pc can be too good for a game which isnt THAT old.

    check all your drivers. that spec is WAY over the recommended spec for RA2 (my old Extreme Graphics II can handle it easily), and it aint even 3D.

    yeah sure your old hardware from that era can handle it but the old game has some problem with this new hardware, (in this case, its the specific CPU that is the problem) and updating the game or drivers wont help.

    I tried to use VMWare to play it though, and it worked like a charm

    it slow down for me two but i gues it has to do with the fact that this old game must be really cpu dependent and i guess it don't really like the c2 achitecture cause it slowdont in my c2q to

    Well yeah, although my and ChaosX5's cpu are C2D :p.. Still, its definitely that. Shame that its good games like RA2 that has problems.

    For Nvidia GPUs,just open Nvidia Control Panel and set "Texture filtering" for Ra2.exe and YURI.exe ,to "High Performance".ATI should have the same settings. Then replace video settings in "ra2.ini" and "ra2md.ini" with:

    [Video]
    AllowHiResModes=yes
    AllowVRAMSidebar=yes
    VideoBackBuffer=no
    ScreenWidth=1440
    ScreenHeight=900
    StretchMovies=yes

    1440\900 is my display's highest resolution.Your resolution should be different.
    Hope you find it useful,it worked for me.

    Its a problem with the specific GPU (or CPU?). Nothing about the power of the hardware

    If you run the game within a Vmware virtual environment using version 6.5 running Windows XP, you will get no lag and be able to run at your full native resolution.

    Hi all, sorry to bring this thread back but this thread saved me from having to run Yuri's revenge on a VM. In the Nvidia control panel I disabled everything I could find for yuri.exe. In the RA2MD.ini, I had to make a small modification: instead of AllowVRAMSidebar=yes, I set AllowVRAMSidebar=no. Without this, the game would run slow whenever a building was under construction and the focus was set to the buildings tab. Now it runs perfectly under Win7 x64 on my Dell E6410. Hopefully the patch to enable LAN play via UDP instead of IPX works...

    o_O

    That is one old game. I used to play it on the crappiest computer in my household. Can't you right-click and run as windows XP or something? I think it's in properties.
