I went and pre ordered my copy yesterday even though it has EA's secureom drm..![]()
Well, couldnt help it being a Red alert fan.
Anybody else out there got the copy? Hows the performance? Gameplay?
-
No Red Alert fans out there??
-
although i'm an avid red alert fan (been playing since RA1 on PS), I won't buy any game with SecuROM .... i mean i reinstall software quite often and i don't think i could live with a 3 time reinstallation limit.. even if it only required me to contact EA.... just bs if you ask me
-
You can't go back to Red Alert after playing Company of Heroes...
I'm not interested
All of the reviews say 'its fun, but lacks depth': why can't it be fun, with depth, like COH
www.metacritic.com -
I'll be getting it. Stil have yet to try out CoH.
-
-
I skipped Crysis Warhead and Farcry 2 coz of drm. Cudnt resist with RA3 though being a die hard red alert series fan. -

The marketing and casting for RA3 is excellent. That and Securom is why I won't be getting it. EA threw all the money into creating an image for the game and nothing behind innovating or at least delivering a polished and deep RTS experience. When C&C meets Rise of Nations, then I'll pay attention. Until then, RA3 looks like just another dated C&C game with slick new graphics and presentation value. I want to like the game, but it's nothing that will keep me playing because it delivers nothing new and can't even get the depth thing right.
-
You do realize that if the game is properly uninstalled then that install 'credit' is reinstated right?
The EA DRM, albeit a tad annoying, isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. -

Aside from the DRM and SecRom crap, has anyone picked this up yet? I'll probably pick it up still, since I'm a huge CnC fan.
-
-
Since EA bought Westwood, C&C was never the same.
-
i enjoy generals, i still play it every so often. I dont know if i could go back to the old style of play. I didnt care for C&C3, its just too slow and you cant get as much going on. I like being able to build wherever i want to, not beside something.
-
But I think I would play the singleplayer missions for this one.
-
However, the FMV and actors sold it for me. I'm looking forward to that much, and hoping the actual gameplay isn't as onerous as it sounds. Hoping for the best, fearing the worst. I should only be pleasantly surprised. -
well....
can nyone give us some feedback on the performance?
Benchmarks?
anything? -
use Revo uninstaller, this will do a deep scan and remove all traces of the game or any program for that matter.
-
I'm a huge C&C fan. Red Alert 2 was by far my favorite.
But RA3 just looks cheeasy to me. I have no interest in it. Though, that may change in the future -
Hmm, the DRM doesn't suit me so...
-
im waiting for my copy to ship from circuit city...seems to be a delay in the date though. I received an email about it the other day.
-
I'm a Red Alert fan! played it since RA1. Even if you guys don't like the game, there's always modding to make it more interesting. I'm thinking about doing a RA1 mod for this game after the expansion comes out.
About the DRM issue, I'll state the facts.
1. You can authorize up to "5" separate computers. You can install/uninstall/reinstall the game unlimited times on computers that has been authorized. Just to clarify, there is no "install" limit, but "authorization" limits. In other words, you can play on 5 computers at the same time (offline). If you plan to play online or LAN, you'll need extra CD keys.
2. You can deauthorize your machine(s) to revoke your credit(s). Once you have deauthorized that machine, you can then transfer the credit on another machine and install.
3. Should the game stop getting support, they will patch it to remove the DRM/securom. Also from what Chris Corry said, once the hype dies down (as well as piraters), they will patch the game and remove the DRM.
4. If there are major changes in your system like installing new hardware, securom will detect it as a new system and you lose your credit. You'll need to call customer support (non toll-free call) to get another one. I recommend revoking your authorization before trying to install new hardware. -
It's not at my local Best Buy. I thought the release date was the 28th?
-
Just picked it up today (Premiere Edition Yay
)
I'll be testing it out soon xD -
crap I lost track of what the date was. I have to order this game now.
Well I just ordered it so now I've gotta wait a week to 2 weeks for it to get overseas to me..... -
ill go out and buy it.
Looking forward to Starcraft 2 the most though. -
Bumping this up.. Mine's still on the way. Anybdy got their copy yet? Screenies?
-
Looks like it's getting some pretty positive reviews!
-
Looks like there are technical issues with the game. I'll wait until everything is fixed.
-
So what's up with the absolute lack of reaction to this game?
Has the Red Alert series just lost its momentum, or is this particular game just not that great, or are people just reluctant to buy it because of the DRM?
In any case, there's been almost no discussion of this game (good or bad) at all here -
I'm a red alert fan, but I somehow lost the enthusiasm. Maybe because EA constantly pumps out games? Kane's Wraith wasn't released too long ago. Create one game and move on to the next, so what happened to Kane's Wraith? I fear they'll forget about RA3 and move on to the next CnC game. Didn't even have time to absorb into KW before EA pumps out another CnC title.
-
Pumping out lots of low-quality luxury goods rapidly is a great way to make money during an economic crisisReally!
/endsarcasm
I'm undecided whether I want to buy it or not though...any reactions to the game itself? -
Being a C&C fan I looked at the game box it in store upon it's release. It looked really campy so I passed. Also, the recent fiasco with RA3's activation keys (missing the last alphanumeric character) and EA's aloof response to it (" just try 1 thru 0 and A to Z until the activation works") has only made me less inclined to buy an EA game.
-
Hmm i don't think so, i bought it a yesterday and im pretty addicted to it right now
-
There r simply tons of morefun games out there. Red Alert is so 1999
-
I'm kinda confused with the campaigns for the 3 different nations. Are all 3 campaigns meant to be running simultaenous, one after another, or completely different timelines?

I picked it up - and I'm not at all dissapointed. It's worth it even if PURELY for the soundtrack
There are some really WoW-esque 'parody' missions with strange humour in the game that made me laugh - in particular the mission with just the conscript and the bear.
Not overly impressed with the multiplayer - feels much more simplistic than previous games for some reason. Sure, most of the series didn't really feel like there was that much customisation as far as online play went until the various expansions came out, giving each faction some diversity within themselves - but still. I recognise that the reason for the simplicity is because they've chosen to focus more on unit abilities (I think every single unit has an ability of some sort) - to make the game more about micromanagement; but frankly I'd just prefer an enormous tech tree and less micromanagement... more strategy less twitch imo!
All that said, it's a solid game. I was rather suprised by the lack of hype too. It's command and conquer - and it's up to par; certainly still a title worth picking up.
EDIT: And yeah - I... "circumvented" the DRM features - and have a totally clean conscience in doing so, too. As far as I'm concerned; EA and any other games manufacturer have a choice - provide me with a copy of a game that dosn't essentially treat me like a criminal, or lose my custom altogether. For the time being, I've chosen to use the welcome help of various piracy groups to avoid the inconviniences involved - if EA dosn't like it they can shove it; they won't be getting another penny out of me if the only path available to me is to jump through their hoops. I bought the game - I didn't rent it. Seems like an odd path to take - driving their consumers to crack and fiddle their software, but what the hell, it's their profit figures, not mine - I wouldn't be suprised if there are a lot more users out there learning about the total ease of pirating software these days as a result, and further to that I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of them decide EAs games just arn't worth the money just for the peace of mind of not being a thief anymore, once they discover how easy it is. -
got the game a few days ago. its pretty good, atleast better than c and c 3. Plus everyone saying that this game is not worthit cite drm as the reason while all who have played it like it
.
i would reccomend it to any red alert fan -
I might install it tonight, but it kinda arrived with four other great games I want to play now. Mass Effect, Crysis Warhead, FarCry II and - the one I'm really looking forward to - Dead Space. -
-
Still waiting for my copy to get here.
-
I just played it last night for the first time.
The only thing I absolutely HATE about when building is the fact that you place the building on the map right after you click the button and wait for it to build instead of click and wait and place.
So basically now it's: Click-Place-Wait, and before it was: Click-Wait-Place.
Other than that, it's a great game -
Just played Crysis Warhead for a bit. Keeping with the terminology, it was kinda fun, not so great though. I think like Doom 3 it would probably have been best if I'd waited 3 years to get a laptop that could play CW properly, then get it, play it for a few hours and forget about it in order to go and play the NEWER games my hardware could manage. Sigh...
Anyway, had a laugh with my first death. I was running behind some kind of big billboard/wall for cover when for some reason the fire I was under caused it to fall and crush me to death. Whoops! Those tricky, inventive KPA guys...
RA3 being installed now. -
Well, I've just played through the first 3 or 4 Soviet missions. It's...way too fast. Especially in the first mission, by the time you've changed focus and given your units orders, it's too late. Either they've won or (I presume) you're dead. If I hadn't chosen the Easy difficulty (which seems **** near foolproof), I'd have lost straight away, and several times hence. Sneak attacks are suddenly over before you can figure out where they are and get there for a reaction. Usually because the computer-controlled co-op player is rather efficient, and so aggressive they push on through long before you're ready.
I'll play through, but I doubt I'll be getting any of the rumoured add-ons to RA3, nor any RTS that plays like this in the future. It's just not fun if you think back on a just-completed mission and it feels like a 10-minute in-game cutscene. I'm staggered it took me 45 minutes to manage 3-4 missions.
It is quite pretty though. I have a G1S, so 8600M GT DDR3 graphics, and I started with 1440x900, all settings on high and 4xAA, and instantly realised that was too much. Then I dropped to all medium, 4xAA, and it's smooth. I haven't experimented with putting individual settings up to find that nice sweet spot, but if someone else has, please let us know. However, for getting started if you have a card like mine, hopefully what I've said will help you start the game straight away without messing about with settings. -
I dunno. My teammate used to be useless half the time. I'd usually just hog more of the resources and demolish everything myself. Either that I'd just send him to a location to wipe out the anti-air defences, then my bombers would fly in and wipe out the target.
Strategy for most Soviet missions: Bombardment from the sea, covered by submarines and anti-air amphibious vehicles.
Strategy for most Allied missions: An initial wave to wipe out anti-air defenses, then another round of 4 - 8 heavy bombers to take out the target. -
-
dude the game will bet harder.the last miission i did took me 50 mins on the easy setting! plus later on the the ally commander becomes useless and keeps getting attacked and defeated
