Anybody had any luck with installing the original Red Alert on W7? I followed the Vista instructions explained here http://www.cncworld.org/?page=features/tutorials/rafree_vista , but it was a disaster.

For the record, I'd recommend NOT using this particular avenue of installation. Just wondering if anyone found an alternative way?

Oh god, I remember try to get it to work on Vista a while back and it was a terrible ordeal.
Try this forum, it might help, it contains the patch needed for Vista and I can only assume it'll work on 7.

I just finished installing it on my Vista machine and it works like a charm. :D

I burned the iso files to discs and installed from that, then applied the XP Patch and set compatibility mode to Windows 95....

MagicISO completely fubared my Windows 7 machine to the point that safe mode was worthless, so I had to completely reinstall. :(

Now that I have it back to normal, I'll see if I can install Red Alert from the discs just like I did with Vista......

P.S; I forgot how much the resolution sucked on RA. Yikes. :D ;)

Okay, I got Red Alert up and running on Windows 7. My only problem is there is a sort of color oversaturation/pixelation going on that is not present in Vista.

Any idea what could be causing it?

I have the same problem but with TFD edition. It's thought to be a DirectX problem, possibly something to do with what these guys are talking about: http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t731782-0.html (what they're saying is a bit over my head so I could be wrong about that).

Some people find that opening your Screen Resolution/Display Settings window and leaving it open during game play fixes the problem. I've tried it myself but it only works for about 2-5 minutes.

I'm holding out for a more permanent and stable fix though.
