It's not a sport - treat PC/consoles as tools for gaming. Use a platform or a mix you find more convenient and/or enjoy more for particular titles![]()
As I'm currently away from my PC, I use my laptop with 240M. Almost five years ago, I used to play GTA V on it.
If RDR2 install wasn't 100+ GBs I would totally try it on my lappy![]()
Tho I doubt I would be able to run it. GTA V had DX10 or DX10.1 mode, which I actually had to manually put into settings with Notepad, as game automatically launched in DX11 mode and crashed, so the only way to initially launch it was through that manual edit![]()

So much for Rockstar using the same optimization from GTA V, Its like they went back to GTAIV and learned nothing.

yeah im getting 15fps all low with my mx 150
this is worse than crysis was!!
it's not even that great lookingLast edited: Nov 7, 2019 -
No offense but the mx 150 not exactly a beast card, isn't it well below the min recommended card? A gtx 770 is the minimum which is fsg 8000+ I'm assuming the min specs are for medium 1080p/30fps but they don't break that out. mx 150 is fsg 3450. Reminds of trying to run TW3 on a quadro 1000m, slideshow. There was a custom ultra low spec mod on nexus for it that got it to like 25fps but it was really bad.

Shame about port, it seems like it didn't live up to the expectations of MP3 and GTA V ports.
Hope they will address the issues.
That being said, can't wait till I get my hands on it, even if I will have to play the game on lover settings. Despite the performance, it seems to be a beautiful looking game, which enhances the wild west setting.JRE84 likes this. -
im not saying mx150 is a beast lol...it runs crysis at all very high 1080p and looks good
rdr2 runs all low and is unplayable at 720p and looks like crap....hopefully you see my point now -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
But can you run RDR2? I guess in 12 years you will be able to -
I skimmed the video and it looks pretty good to me but I play at only modest graphics settings, he did get a consistent 30fps though kinda strange if you only get 15fps w a similar cpu/ram etc I'm pretty encouraged with my 980m when I get the game though from this. They'll probably patch it up and mods will help, thank the Lord for Mods!
I bet there will be some modder who would do an ultra low preset the game itself doesn't offer since it's such a popular game like TW3 is, so higher fps but it won't look like even what you see now. Uh about crysis (1?) what the guy above this comment said^^^^ if it's crysis 3 you're talking about that's a 2013 game though.Last edited: Nov 8, 2019 -
crysis 3 runs at 40 - 60 fps all low and looks alot better than rdr2 on all low now do you get it.
lmao I have no idea that you missed my point of rdr2 being a poor port -

Yeah it doesn't seem to be as scalable so far as gtav, how does that run on your system? That's also a pretty old game but still great fun. The details of your system matter too though like cpu, is it on an ssd etc don't think we got those. 720p pretty low though. I was lower than that on TW3 and it was still a slideshow until I put the ultra low mod in there but it just destroyed the game, a forest would be like 1 sapling every little bit it was crazy, then I got the upgrade bug. Thankfully I had a m4600 w the discrete cards swap out for m4000 for like 25 bucks boom tw3 runs 30fps on low at a bit above 720p fine lol

Comparing disparate games on the basis of settings alone is an exercise in futility, as one game’s medium settings may be more advanced than another game’s ultra settings. SotR is not even an open-world game like RDR2.

k I give up
but like 500 000 people say rdr2 has poor optimization yet when I say it here lol just nvm -
No I believe you they def need to get a patch or two in there, not sure about which directx is better too that usually helps if they allow older ones, I think vuclan is possible on this maybe better. I've seen on pcg that the graphics settings are pretty vague too so not sure you can even disable aa or ao which I would almost certainly do. Really it's probably just a case of having to overpower the game to get a certain fps, notebookcheck says your gpu is the same as the gt 1030, aren't they running the same gpu as you in the yt link? If so then it's got to be something other than the gpu in your system.
-
The problem is PC gamers want games that push boundaries instead of just catering to consoles, but also get personally offended when their "rigs" can't play something at "Ultra". Then they claim "poor optimization" despite being laymen who wouldn't really have a clue about whether it is or isn't well-optimized.

That being said, this game does seem to be in need of an optimization pass or several, as currently performance scales quite poorly across settings (the lowest settings only run about 50% faster than the highest settings from what I’ve seen), and it takes a helluva lot more PC grunt to even match console equivalent perf/IQ.

As for me, yup, 4690K stutters, a lot... At first I had textures at ultra and rest on high and advanced settings locked. In the very beginning, then on horseback, everything was nice until shootout. Then all hell broke loose... For like 10 seconds of gameplay I had 40 seconds of stutter... Went back into settings, enabled advanced options, put everything on high (minus scaling or something), still the same. Third time put game into DX12 mode (not sure how it is possible in Windows 7), everything on ultra (except few options like reflection MSAA, scaling, and something else), and now can play it. Can feel it's now GPU bound, but still get a 10 second or so stutter once 15-20 minutes of gameplay.
Gonna tune back in my CPU overclock, see if it helps some. I had it disabled first time I had stutters, thought maybe game didn't like it.
Hope R* will release an optimized patch or something. There also seem to be already talks online on how to set up affinity to get less stutters.
Otherwise this game got me hooked, So far feels like I'm playing Hateful Eight.
Only completed intro and first mission though, can't wait to get to an open world, as so far it's a bit too restrictive. But love attention to details, how inventory system works (have to take your big guns from horse), and horse riding. Dialogues and VA is top notch as well. I bet it looks good too, but so far it's all white in snow -
yeah I have to agree the optimization isnt the best but it's far from the worst and it's not like they didn't give you options

Interesting that this is another game that is able to run in DX12 on Windows 7, which makes it a total of 4 now (I think?) after WoW, Gears 5, and CoD:MW. If the performance in DX12 on Windows 7 is good (on Turing that is) from what you’re saying, that’s also good. Windows 7 DX12 performance was pretty bad in CoD:MW and the game wouldn’t allow you to set it to exclusive fullscreen. I had to install Windows 10 in order to play that game in fullscreen and get the expected performance level. -
Well I recently tried to run GOW5 on Win7 and it was a total nogo for me, two different warnings about not detecting a dx12 gpu and then not even detecting a graphics card came up, followed by a crash. AFAIK a 980m on the latest nvidia drivers is a dx12 card lol In the GOW5 folder there was a win7 folder with a couple of dll's for running dx12 on win7. PCG has an article about RDR2 today:

Game runs for me without stutter (Dx12/Vulkan) on 431.70 (bloatware free driver) .
I'm still free roaming in Valentine area.
LiveJealousGyrfalcon-mobile.mp4
BTW I've tested three different drivers in game benchmark and results are:
419.34-60.9fps
431.70-61.5fps
441.12-61.3fps
So, looks like in "441.12 RDR2 Game Ready my driver", Nvidia "forgot" about optimization for mobile Pascals.

Can't say I noticed any improvement with latest patch, but man, do I still like this game!
There's just something about riding your horse through the land, encoutering a randem person on the way to your destination, helping out or shooting him/her.
Damn fine game!

Since Witcher 3, this is first game where just riding and exploring map, put smile on my face.
Aha, that's why my Arthur never gets fat:

And I agree - exploration in this game so exciting! Being alone with your thoughts, horse and nature, with soothing music playing in the background. TW3, KCD and now RDR2 do this perfectly. I should go outside more
Speaking about horses, my horse, Geralt, is a good boi. Took quite a lengthy ride from camp to the snowy area on the left upper corner of the map. Although the weather was nice (sunny), there was still plenty of snow on the road, which Geralt had to endure until I reached the destination.
On the way to the destination, a guy asked me to give him a lift. Sure, I'm a good guy, so naturally I agreed to help. But it turned out to be that he was a hustler and he kicked me off Geralt. Luckily I always come prepared. Before speaking to the hustler I took the shotgun from Geralt and put it on Arthur. It's a wild west after all, always be prepared. So it's no surprise the hustler didn't have a chance to get too far. Though Geralt was scarred from all the shootin', and he carried the hustler corpse until I calmed him down. Nothing a pat on the neck, a scrub with his favorite brush, and a carrot can't fix!
After my deed was done, went home after staying the night at the camp. Killed a couple of wolves and an elk on the way back, so Geralt was carrying an elk carcass and a couple of wolf hides besides Arthur on his back. But he made it, the boi is alright!
Wonder if I should put him back in a stable to let him rest for a few days, and use Roach for these few days.
Although they probably did tie it to the game engine as well...Last edited: Nov 15, 2019 -

Makes sense that the patches improve it, when I first played witcher 3 it would crash every 20mins or so it was unbearable, it was on 1.08 I think, even after they patched it, it still crashed on the last mega mission unless all low incl lower resolution. I've always had mid range equipment though. Can anyone tell me what the final installed game size is? Seems like they always overstate the needed space to cover their behinds. Trying to fit this on a small ssd and moving things around.

New patch dropped.
*sigh*
Probably will have to dial in the GFX settings... Again...
Overall really interesting port. For few days I had no problems, then next three days I can only load into game after third attempt (during first tow game get stuck in infinite loading), and then yesterday I had some CTDs...
Also witness system is kinda weird. I get jumped by bandits, naturally I kill 'em all. Then some random NPC rides on a horse and I get a message that witness is running to the law and then there's a hunt for me. I defended myself, c'mon, what the hell?!? They kinda asked for it.
On the other hand, it also kinda makes sense. After all, NPC only sees the aftermath of the fight, as in me looting the dead bodies, so naturally he/she thinks I did it to rob them... -
