    Red ERROR signs in Half life 2 (Orange box)

    So, this might be my tenth or eleventh issue with steam and the Orange box.
    I installed (and tried re-installing) half life 2, and red ERROR signs appear all over the place. I see the game, but instead of soldiers, there is an ERROR sign walking ,and so on.
    Any ideas of how to solve it?

    Are you installing it from the physical disk, or downloading it via Steam?

    I installed it directly from the DVD.

    No answers from Steam.
