Red Orchestrs 2 Heroes of Stalingrad is expected to release early Q1 2011. Just a heads up since that is now approaching and may want to look into the game before it's released.

Yes it is PC ONLY!!!! And some of the areas are actual 1:1 recreations of Stalingrad!

    Here is a cool FYI:

Tripwire Interactive took the best mod teams and individuals from the first game. Gave them the tools a year before the game release. If what they create are good, Tripwire will polish it up and release as a free expansion, free update. This is not Activision or EA at the helm here. How is that for a mod community support?

What will Red Orchestra have for PC FPS Gamers who are tired of crap from Treyarch, Infinity Ward and DICE? How is Tripwire Interactive different from Activision and EA?

RO2 HoS will have SDK and map editor right out of the box at release.
They already have a forum with support for modding. Tripwire Interactive began as a mod team for the Unreal engine. And the continue their support for Mod Community with every game they publish and develop.

Tripwire Interactive does not charge exorbitant prices for their games and do not force you pay for necessary patches and enhancements. New maps, new patches for weapons, or game changes, new items are all free. The only thing they charge for are cosmetic changes that have no impact on gameplay in their games.

Tripwire Interactive says: When you buy the box for their game. This is not just what you get. You also purchased future updates including more maps, more vehicles, more game modes. These updates may continue for up to 3 years after the game release.

Gunplay not for console players and noobs.
If you want quick scoping, quick sniping, easy kills, and all the idiocies you find from DICE, Treyarch and Infinity Ward, you won't find with RO2 HoS.
    - This does not mean this is a game for elite and only for the skilled. It just means you actually have to care about what you are doing when you play, not just run around like a headless chicken shooting anything that moves like COD.
    - Iron Sights. Yes this game uses Iron Sights. There are no crosshairs in this game. You won't be running around spraying shots from your hips. Obviously a sniper scope has a crosshair in it.
    - Reload interrupt. Yes, reloading can be interrupted if you are shot. What a novel idea, you are not a terminator machine, bullets do affect your gameplay.
    - Cover shooting from First Person view. Being able to take cover, look around corners or blind fire over without having to go into 3rd Person view. Amazing that Treyarch with their massive budget couldn't figure this out, I guess idiotic custom classes are more important.
    - Bipods actually work! Do you think BC2 is idiotic with Medics running around shooting M60s from the hip and snipers shooting M95 from crouching position? Yeah anyone who has half a brain would. RO2 HoS actually uses bipods, because you know, there is a reason why they are on LMGs... and heavy rifles to begin with...
    - Breathing and Fatigue exist! Your breathing will affect your accuracy. If you've been running, and fatigued, your breathing will be even harder. Again, Treyarch is too busy making sure their old engine tanks the latest systems.
    - Recoil Exists! What great idea. Holding down fire for 100 rounds in BC2 won't be happening. Because you know... guns have something called recoil...
    - Environment matters! Yes this means your weapon will collide with the environment affecting your gunplay!
    - Adjustable Sights. You can adjust your sights and scope depending on your situation.
    - Sniper Scopes Actually Work! To compensate for bullet drop, some games there is none. Some games you just shoot slightly above. Here you dial in the range on your scope, like a sniper scope, because it's a sniper scope.
    - Snipers have Iron Sight. One thing they learned, weapons from this era still had iron sight along with the scope. So you can switch depending on close range or distance for snipers.

There are also differences to an individual's gameplay.
    - Damage Damage Damage! There isn't just get hit and get damaged. There is minor, critical, headshots. Where you get hit affects this. Getting hit on a specific bodypart will affect whether it's minor, critical or death.
    - Peripheral Vision indicators. There will be indicators if something is approaching in your peripheral. You don't need EyeFinity.
    - Rank actually matters and work dynamically. Sure leveling etc is not new. But here your rank moves dynamically, it can go up and down depending on how well you play. You can't be level 40 and just go on cruise control. Your physical appearance will also be different from a new player. And of course you have access to weapons and items that also appear better. A high ranking player has a better weapon that also looks better. A new player's weapon will look like it's a hand me down.
    - Bandaging. You will be able to bandage. Damage will have two affects. Instant damage, and then you will bleed. Bandaging will stop the bleeding.
    - Weight matters! Again you are not a terminator machine. There is a limit to how much you can carry and it affects your stamina and how fast you can move.
    - You can actually move! Yes this means you can climb over environment, debris, and climb through windows etc.

All environments will be destructable that a mapper wants. Debris won't just disappear. A building will destroyed will affect the environment and the terrain. Bullets can penetrate some material and do damage on the other side.

Remove respawn and recover full health just by hiding in cover for a few seconds and it'll be so realistic :D

Then again for such complex-sounding features, I'm sure it will be bug ridden for the first few months

It's still a game, not meant to be realistic like armies using it for training simulations.

But whenever I play any other FPS, the things I think, wow this is really dumb, RO2 HoS resolves.

And in some gamplay modes, it's not just respawn. For example there are a series of objectives with time limit, one team on defense, other on offense. One life per objective. If the offensive doesn't get objective it's over. No one respawns. If the offensive does get objective, then respawn to get the next.

There are so many minor changes to RO2 HoS from COD etc, that no it's not the same game. But I think this should be a game with the even balance of fun while not being idiotic like DICE and Treyarch/Infinity Ward.

And there are definitely differences in how RO2 HoS will be from the game developer/publisher than how Activision, EA, DICE, Treyarch and Infinity Ward treating their customers like money bags.

Yep, I linked a video at the top that demonstrate the minor changes.

I think it's awesome that Germans run with gun in one hand and Russians run with two hands as this was how they were trained at that time.

There are so many small details that are just fantastic! Like scopes. Scopes don't just change your entire view. But your peripheral and view outside of the scope remain the same, only the images in scope become zoomed.

And I think for anyone who doesn't know Tripwire Interactive or played one of their games. Just do some quick research and you'll see this is what a PC Gaming developer should be! They do pretty much everything you want for the reasons why you play on PC.
    - Modding
    - Affordable pricing
    - Replay value!
    - Free patches and updates and lots more

Wow I'm glad I opened this thread. :)

I'm very impressed with this game after watching the two videos. Especially because I'm in agreement with you about how gimmicky today's shooters are becoming. The only shooter I actually play nowadays is Gears of War (either 1 or 2) because I just can't stand the complexity of all these silly gimmicks, like killstreaks.

Yesterday I read a preview article about Gears of War 3 on the latest issue of Game Informer and I was very disappointed because it seems like they are turning my favorite simplistic, sci-fi shooter into a CoD reskin. So it's nice to see that there are shooters being developed which aren't following any cookie-cutter formula.

P.S. Anyone else think the interviewer in the first video is overly awkward? Lol

Yeah the interviewer should have been replaced by someone else.

But I hope anyone who is tired of COD/BC2/Console FPS games, watches the interview. He really does cover all the awesome differences between this and the COD clones. All the minor details and intricacies are just tremendous!

It will be available on Steam and likely have steamworks There aren't any additional DRM I know of. And there will more than likely be a boxed version, but Steam may still be required, not sure.

A company that provides this much support for the mod community, charges a reasonable price for the game, and that fee also includes future updates, future maps, future game modes and patches sound like a company that wants to screw you over with DRM that limits your gameplay? Considering this is an Online FPS game, I don't see SteamWorks being an issue. If it was primarily a single player game, that might be different.

Also RO2 is using a highly modified UE3. And UE3 has SteamWorks integrated, so makes a lot of sense if that's what Tripwire is using.

Big fan of Red Orchestra. Got into it about 4 years after its initial release on a steam sale, but it kept me occupied for months.

I really liked some of the European theatre mods with Americans and Germans but I could never find enough people in servers to play them.

I'll definitely be picking this up - eventually - if not day one.

It's not Online Only, but that's what this game is about.

There is a single player campaign mode and you'll be able to play the various multi-player modes with bots, that heavy various level of AI.

I'm not sure why you are so afraid of Steam and Online.

Just to give you a differed opinion, some of use like an arcade shooter more then a realistic one. This is all a matter of opinion, and to say the least probably the most popular type of shooter is the arcade kind, Think UT, counter strike, cod, battlefield, MoH, Killzone, Halo, BLACK, Goldeneye Just to name a few games. These games sell well and are highly regarded because they don't cut the casual player out.

an earlier poster said they had a hard to finding people in servers to play, probably because they didn't attract a big enough consumer base to play the game regardless of brand power. Some people like that quick action respawn quick run and gun, because your NOT sitting for 5 minutes waiting for a round to end, thats probably the worst part of most games modes, sitting around for 5 minutes waiting for next round.

Others like custom classes, I like choosing every aspect of my character without being locked to having to be either medic class, or recon class, so on.

There has to be a balance between fun and realism, don't get me wrong the more real the better, but when you've got to work accessively hard to get that one sniper shot, theres a reason why something like CoD sells more then something like arma.

Despite my counter arguement, if theres a demo I can try out ill try it out, but if its realistic > fun then im out, it needs to be Realistic == fun.

Another thing, like the poster above, although I appreciate a good WW2 its over done to death, unless this is EVERYTHING that happened in world war 2 then this will probably not sell well regardless its realism.

    Yeah...

Thanks for letting us know what we already know. If you didn't notice, I said, this is a game for those who don't like everything you mentioned. It wasn't a debate about which type of FPS was better or which type of FPS sells better. The whole point of this thread was to inform about a game to those who are tired of COD/UT clones.

And Tripwire Interactive's goal isn't to create a COD clone. If you know anything about Tripwire Interactive you wouldn't have mentioned any of the above. All their games have a similar formula and they follow a certain financial structure. Tripwire Interactive has always been supportive of the small developers, the unkown and always been a major part of modd community.

And the one life per objective is not like how make it out to be. If you watch the video they demonstrate that game mode. Their is a SET TIMER. If the offensive doesn't get the objective in that time, the defense wins. They also put the timer in because they found players will go to their favorite camping spot etc etc. This way, with a timer, players have to get into the fray and get the objective quickly. And you RESPAWN after the objective is achieved. After respawn, your team continues on to the next objective. There are multiple objectives for each ROUND...

There are plenty of different game modes from RO2 HoS, that if you don't like one, don't play it, play another. They will have all the basics. And also have a campaign co-op mode and co-op multiplayer modes.

You make it seem like it's going to take ages to snipe in this game. That's not the case. You just won't be quick scoping and quick sniping. Setting up the range on the scope is as easy as scrolling your mouse. The idea is that once you play for a while, you should be able to know how to range the scope quickly.

And despite what you think, Tripwire Interactive has a very loyal following and because of their exclusive support for PC, players continue to play RO and Killing Floor and their newly released The Ball. The member above said he couldn't find enough players for a MOD...

And lastly Tripwire Interactive is an independent game developer, game publisher. They don't have to answer to Activision or EA or answer to some unknown shareholder that Activision makes games for. TWI makes games for players and their boards are filled with mods, and filled with discussions. And much of those mods and discussions do make it into the game.

TWI isn't for everyone. I never implied that. I actually think I implied this is a game for a niche group of PC FPS players. This is a PC EXCLUSIVE game. This isn't about making a cross platform game for the sole purpose of profit to make share holders happy. I get the sense TWI truly enjoy what they do and they do it because they love gaming, and they love the mod community.

But putting down how other companies do things blatently is rediculous aswell, I see the merrit in your arguement and being a part of an independant developing company myself I understand the freedoms of not being under a publishers all seeing eye. Everything you said doesn't make this better then cod or battleifield. and my concern for the sniping comes more from players running around quickly to the point that setting up a shot would take to long and you'd miss the opertunity. Dont be so defensive just because I have a different opinion, turn down the rage-o-meter.

Tripwire, in my opinion, is anti-casual -- perhaps even hardcore. Sure their games can have mass appeal, but they don't simplify game play any more than necessary. Gimmicks and arcade action are fun, but is it right for a WWII game? In my opinion, no. Of course this is all up to your opinion, if you think WWII games should be arcade style that is your choice and there are plenty of games out there to try. I just hope enough people think like me to make this a popular game... for multiplayer and Tripwire's sake.

It's too realistic, which is fine if you enjoy that sort of stuff. Think American's Army 3.0 times 1000. I think the community for RO2 will be VERY small just like is was for the original RO. I'm sure it will be great at what it does, but I'm not interested.

Also, me personally, I'm not very interested in playing as the Germany or Russian armies.

Vhat, vhy do you no vant to vight vor de Vaterland? And in my book, the more realistic it is the better (to the limit of having to put on your uniform).
