I was on these forums last looking for a good gaming notebook and Chaz suggested the Compaq Presario v4000t.
Well I got it and all was good for a time. About 3 months into having the pc the video card started messing up giving me a black screen then just freezing. After a while it stopped but around Sept. 2006 I was playing css and my pc just blacked out and i had to send it back to hp to get it fixed since it froze when windows booted up. My hard drive also got totally screwed and fraged couldn't even defrag it all the way.
I sent it back to hp and i thought they fixed it but opengl and d3d do not work at all they just freeze the notebook. i tried to get it fixed but they said they wouldnt becuase counter-strike is a 3rd party software and unless i can prove to them it crashed on an HP GAME (WTF hp dosent have any games) So they were pretty much useless.
So does anyone know how i might find an x700 that i can replace for the v4000t? i checked on ebay but i dont know if there the right video cards for my HP or not. Thanks for viewing this and help would be thankful too!
EDIT: when I say replace, I mean I am willing to go as far as to de-solder my crap video card and replace it with the exact one but one that works

Its not possible to replace the video card in that notebook. You may be willing to de-solder it from the board, but just because you remove it doesnt mean putting another in there will work. It'll require a motherboard replacement to fix this.

So I am basically screwed and will have to say this notebook will never be used for games again?

Halo, sorry to hear about your V4000T. I have the exact same system as you. Im not an expert by any means, but from what ive gathered from these forums it isnt possible to replace a notebook video card. perhaps one of the pros can answer that one for sure.
a friend had problems with his hp laptop and customer service was pretty much useless in his case as well. after weeks and a couple times of sending his laptop in to try and get fixed he finally was able to get a brand new system. i would keep fighting with hp. keep asking for someone higher up until you are satisfied and then threaten a call to the better business bureau, as i assume your laptop is still under warranty. -
I agree. Just keep asking for someone higher and higher up. Eventually somebody will listen and offer to help.

Yea if the notebook is still under warranty give HP a fight. If its not under warranty try doing a clean install of XP with all of the latest drivers. From the sounds of it, what with the HDD getting messed up and all, could it be a virus or heaven forbid a rootkit? Of course doing a clean install would get rid of those.

its under warranty (for about one more month)but i think Im just gonna sell it on eBay and get an xbox360.. all my buds have one and I wanna play some Gears of War badly....
I am also getting a new Desktop with AMD Athlon x2 3800+, BFG 7600gt, 1gb ram.
So i think that will just about cover my pc gaming needs.
I wont really need the laptop if i get a 360 because I only got a laptop so i could play brand new games at other peoples houses like my moms, but I can just buy a 360 and take it over there instead, a 360 is better than my laptop ever was, right?
Replacing the x700 in my Compaq v4000t ?
