I downloaded the free demo version of Call of Duty 4 which was 1.3 GB.

It installed well and after a restart it started up fine. I could play on the default (optimal setting) which is 1024x700 something, without any noticable slugishness or choppiness.

After about 30 minutes of playing, I minimized the game and started up the CPUID monitor. The CPU temp was 50-53 C with the maximum of 61 C.

The GPU temp was about the same, 50 C- 59 C.

The left front part of the laptop was warmer than usually at idle, but still nowhere near being really hot.

This CPU has a thermal design of 90 C, while the P8400 105 C, which means it could boil water :)

By the way, I wasn't impressed with the game. I expected much more from it compared to Return To Castle Wolfenstein I played in 2005 (which was released in like 2001).

    :)

Dude, you are expecting too much. Of course, the classics are the best. But Call of Duty 4 is a great game too. The demo is kinda boring, but the full version is way better. It is the game of the year of 2008 for a reason.

Great that it runs well. Did you ever play any of the previous Call of Duty's? I really enjoyed the first one and the expansion to the first one or was that Call of Duty 2? Well anyway I enjoyed the earlier COD's - oh also the Medal of Honour series were excellent too. I mix them up in my mind but I enjoyed all those WWII FPS's - they got a bit stale after a bit but the first one or two in each series were great.

Is the demo only in the ship? I never played the demo but I HATE that level. It's the first level of the game and I hated it. The rest of the game is awesome. I also hated the beginning of the Ghilly suit level - too much sneaking and reloading levels because you go the wrong way in the grass.

This COD4 was an excellent "refresh" of the genre. There is a bit where you are shooting from a plane at night in the full game. It's exactly like those videos you see on youtube or where-ever and it's awesome!

RTCW was a fantastic game! I am playing it again! I just bought it through Steam as part of the ID pack. It's so lightweight and fast and fun.

I'm surprised the game ran at all on a 9200M-GS, though this is good news.

Have you tried any other games? If you could, run a 3DMark06 benchmark for us and let us know how many points it gets.

Hmm that's good news it runs well on less capable GPUs. Hopefully the Mo. Radeon 3450 will do well with it too, if not a bit better.

COD4s main problem is that it's so linear, that it's like it's on rails.

It's not even that I am totally into open sandbox games like Crysis or Far Cry, I just think COD4 was so cinematic and so inspired by films like Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan, that the gameplay kinda got stale.

It's very solid, balanced and well crafted though. And the story is well represented.
I didn't get into the multiplayer. Very unforgiving and hard, haha.

Leebaldock, nah, I've never tried any previous CODs. And actually I havent played much in the past few years being busy with school.... that is, except the Flight Simulator 2004 which runs really well on heighest settings on the monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050. Flying with that screen probably looks better than looking out of the smaller window of the actual plane :D.

Chad, I actually couldn't view the result of the 3d Mark 06 because it asked me to enter the registration code.

It did the tests but never displayed the results, even after registering at their site. I don't know... I got the basic version and thought it was free. Some one in another thread mentioned the registration code prompt also.

hmmm... on auto settings I got 11.9 fps on a 9300m GS and T9400 system. This was a clean install test run with 177.92 drivers.

    everything at low (10*7 ) I got 31.8 fps.

There are differences between the 9300m-gs and 9200m-gs.. Notable, 9200 uses some new VP3 processor.

"Compared to the old 8400M series or the 9300M G, the 9200M GS features only 8 unified shaders and is produced in 65nm. Furthermore, it integrates the new VP3 video processor (8400M, 9300M G had VP2) with more video features and better hd-video decoding support. "

Do you mean high settings? Also can you check the fps and report back?

Yeah, the 9200m GS is slower. VP3 is for video/movie playback and does nothing for games.

I am just posting this so that people don't get their hopes up. The 9300m and 9200m are very weak for playing games. Their intended purpose is to accelerate media playback and some very light gaming.

They are in the same ballpark as the x4500 integrated video solution from Intel.

I uninstalled the demo already as it was just to test the card and see what it's like. So I can't check the fps.

    I got 1742 on 3D mark 06 score.
