Just saw this on Steam
What do you think of it?
I only played the first Resident Evil on the PlayStation back in the day and loved it, then I got lost by the many sequels

I was just looking at this game, I'm a bit tired of B1 and TW3, this may fit the bill.

Heard from a co-worker it was recommend, I have yet to personally play but it does look promising.

It is absolutely nothing like any previous Resident Evil. I can assure you that. It plays more like if someone mixed Silent Hill and Outlast.

However, one of my favourite streamers is a Resident Evil speedrunner when she feels like it, so I have... almost all of the games' basic function down. RE7 is a first person, Outlast-style horror title, but with some combat and a more stagnant area (like Silent Hill).
I won't give any spoilers about it, but I personally don't think it's so great, however since I never cared for the original Resident Evil games and I don't scare too easily, I would say you should take my decision with a grain of salt.
Be wary though, that while it released today (24th jan), $10 of DLC is slated for launch on 31st Jan (PS4 gets it first too) and $15 of DLC is slated for 14th february (again, PS4 gets it first). So I don't like that portion either.Support.2@XOTIC PC and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Well I bought it and can't get it to recognize my keyboard, it thinks I have a game controller, I HATE that. I'm searching now for a fix.

Unfortunately 99% of DLCs are too overpriced for the content they are offering...D2 Ultima and Support.2@XOTIC PC like this. -
I got it to work but I have to unplug my Orbweaver, that's irritating.

[QUOTE="The problem with this game isn't that it's DLC priced and possibly little in amount... it's that it's LITERALLY 1 week after launch, and then another 2 weeks for a second set. They could have delayed the game by 1 week and included that DLC. This is the crap that makes no sense.[/QUOTE]
Yes, understand these companies are obviously for profit, but when I see the COD for example at 100.00+ dollars for a game, that I know will have DLC down the road for content that should have been included, it makes me concerned that other large game devs will follow the trend. -
Although it's seems like a scam, when you boil it down the cost per minute of entertainment is still pretty fair IMHO and If you don;t like the first part you dob;t need to pay the extra $30.00.
I have 4 hours in the game, after updating my drivers to 376.49 I was getting over 100 FPS with the exceptions of some areas where it dropped to around 40, this was with everything maxed out on my desktop. It had no problems handling the overclocked 7700k and 980Ti, unlike BF1 was at first. -
So far I absolutely love the same. I am about 2-3hrs in, I work during the day so I can't take hours off to place... I wish though! It is a great game that I am enjoying. The puzzles are perfect too.

Hmm, I watched a little of some playthroughs and it seems more like a comedy than a horror game
The way you can sew your limbs back together and enemies take a billion bullets and burn and get hit by cars and keep on coming
But maybe it gets better and there's a reason for the madness.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Nothing like the original resident evil. Game play is so slow. Controllers are ackward. I tried to play but after couple of hours I gave up and deleted it. With all the new stuff this was old and the gameplay showed. I don't recommend it

I am close to finishing it (PS4 version) and I gotta say, I am thoroughly floored by the quality of the game, coming from the terrible RE6. This is a return to old style formula and its fantastic. It gave me vibes of playing the original RE1.
Very fun, good length, decent weapons and all.I was at first skeptical because of the enemies, and the demo involving a ghost, but I am glad to see the demo is different from the game, basically entirely.
It does, however, feel like there could be more enemy variety, but after seeing the connections and the present date of the game and the enemy type... I get it.
I definitely recommend it. And I assume it would be a blast to play on VR, but I would love to try it on desktop quality VR. Anyone that wants an old style gameplay, from the likes of RE1-RE3, this is a great game. People that liked RE4-6, this is quite different.
Also, people often confuse gameplay with movement (tank controls etc). This resident is about item management, investigating, backtracking, and every seldom time, hiding from an enemy. The video tape gimmick helps you "know" new areas just before entering so you get an idea where you are going.
There are a couple of mild annoyances, but they are a small and end quickly that it didn't detract much from my experience.
For example, after completing 3/4 of the game, you end up with a reveal that Mia was an agent from a corporation, transporting the main subject Evelyn. You get to play as Mia for a while, and this ends up making you play again as a character with zero items, and a gun. At this point in the game, your main char already had shotungs, flame thrower, handguns, grenade launcher, lots of ammo and depending on your ability to find antique coins, also a magnum. so it kinda sucked to go back to zero items for a while. Thankfully it doesn't last too long.

@ryzeki
After reading you positive review I'll have to give it another try, I played about 4 hours into it and after dying at a point where I had to back a bit to re start I left it behind, It's a bit liner then what I'm used to but OK. -
I dont want to spoil much.
Also, you can be creative in several boss fights as they allow interesting ways of dealing with enemies. In particular the first baker boss fight

Go with the mindset of killing her, theres plenty of ammo around but take usefull stuff like burner and shotgun she doesnt take that long to kill. After getting her, use a psychostimulant to gather all the stuff
She doeant need special ammo to die, just shoot her in her obvious, nasty weakspot. Use the burner to deal with bugs.

Just finished the game. If they add more minigames over time, and something like The Mercenaries and runs like RE3 survival runs, this will be a 10/10 RE game.
Enjoyed all of it. I do wish I would have used a bit more of my more powerful weapons. But outside of it, it is a very RE experience, particularly the first ones. -

Burn RE6 and buy 10 copies of RE7!
I dunno, I enjoy playing RE games a lot more than watching, but this only applies to some games... not sure what makes it more appealing to play, others to watch.SOTN_Alucard likes this. -
I haven't played any RE games after the first one, 1998 perhaps?

I loved RE1 and 2 and 3 were good too. I didn't play like how 4 went into a more voodoo theme although it's highly acclaimed. 5 and 6 were so far from the original survival horror roots it wasn't even Resident Evil to me, saying that I did enjoy playing 5 coop with my friend.
7 has peaked my interest since it seems to have brought back the whole fight or flight aspect. -
I will try madhouse difficulty now and see the other "choice" I can make, to see if it changes anything. And I will make sure to use my weapons more. I spent a lot of time saving ammo and ended up with lots of bullets hah.TBoneSan, Spartan@HIDevolution and DukeCLR like this. -

I know what makes Resident Evil always varies from person to person due to everyone having their own perspective, but to me it's always been the homage or play on what the popular horror genre is in current culture, the deliberately cheesy dialogue to pay "respects" to B-movies, and there always being some kind of virus, a secret lab, handful of puzzles, and most of the meat of the game being in the documents scattered throughout the game. Resident Evil 7 in that regard hits every point of that. It's also a nice change of pace as well, because every 3 mainline Resident Evil games, there is a change in camera perspective. I'd say the game is about an 8.5/10 tbh.
TLDR: If you like REmake and classic Resident Evil games, and FEAR (ironically enough this is the same writer from F.E.A.R.), you'll like this game. It's nothing like Outlast or P.T. contrary to popular belief.DukeCLR, TBoneSan, ryzeki and 1 other person like this.
