I have a Dell XPS 1645 w/ a mobility 4670 with a native a res of 1600x900. Dell sells this laptop with a 1920x1200 screen as well so i know that the video card can handle that resolution.
Question is do you guys think that i can force it to run at 1920x1200 if i purchase a 24 inch monitor whose native res is 1920x1200? I just want to be able to watch blu ray movies on a bigger screen 1080p.
Thanks!!

Of course you can do that, just hook up an external screen to your laptop via VGA, then when it is, press your Function (Fn) button and F7, which will detect all recently connected displays. Also, true 1080p is 1920x1080, on a 16:9 screen, FYI.

Even if that res is not listed under "List All Modes" under adapter settings? I can understand that the screen on the laptop can only support 1600x900, and can therefore be displayed as the max, but if i connect to the external monitor through hdmi, the video card will allow a higher res after dectecting the monitor?
