580m SLI or 6990XF will be the best choice for anything you want.

imo i would go for the highest rated card right now given you already have a good budget, either the xf or sli high end cards, actually a single 580m or 6990m can handle fallout3 and new vegas easily, also that goes for skyrim (the latest from beth).

not very reliable, but definitely good amount of info is out there, btw did you copy and paste the notebookcheck class 1 gpu section? :)

a single 580m/6990m is enough for you

I say if you got the money the benefit of the second card is worth it. You get all the power of the single card + up to 100% boost on the second card.(Ya scaling has gotten that good now) There are little to no issues associated with having a dual GPU system compared to the benefits it gives. Just my two cents.

You won't be able to go for Alienware with this budget with a single 580m or 6990m. Id suggest looking for clevo laptop model in the Sager and Clevo section.

You probably won't find a 580m for 6990m for $1200 unless the seller needs drug money :)

A good alternative is this laptop. It has all the necessities, is highly upgradable, and has a powerful 570m GPU.

    FORCE 1761 / MSI 1761

It is $1015 new, and can be upgraded to a quad core 2630 cpu for $100 more. Xotic has good prices and service.
