Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice / guidance on installing Microsoft's "Rise of Legends" for the PC. I managed to successfully install the game on our 5 year-old AMD based desktop, and it worked a treat - it's a superb looking game by the way. Unfortunately I'm having problems installing it on our new Asus A6Va laptop (x700 card, 1GB RAM, 1.7Ghz cpu). It let's me install the first two disks but then for some bizarre reason doesn't seem to recognise the third disk when I insert it. It simply keeps requesting that I insert the third disk even though I have done! As I say, it previously worked a treat on our old desktop machine.
I've googled this problem but although there seem to be a lot of install issues with this game, my problem doesn't seem to be one of them. All advice gratefully received from you![]()
By the way, for anyone searching for an inexpensive gaming laptop (I searched for many months!), I can highly recommend the Asus A6Va. Our machine came with the above-mentioned specs, and it manages to run all of my children's games with ease: Act of War Direct Action, American Conquest Divided Nation, Warhammer 40,000 DOW, and it can easily cope with Earth 2160, a game that is rather resource intensive. We bought this machine for just £780, and it also comes with an excellent optical mouse, and an adequate carry bag! Well done Asus. Apologies for the digression![]()

PS. Not quite sure why my thread title is winking but there you go.

Any takers on this one? The third disk is in seemingly perfect condition, therefore do not understand why the hard drive won't recognise and launch the disk. All other software has loaded without a hiccup.

Well, you could try burning a copy of that disc for youself and then try using that to install. Only thing I can think of.

Thanks ChazMan. I'll try that. Just a thought though: Since originally installing the game on my desktop without a hiccup, we've gone through an airport (enroute to Canada), and the disk may well have gone through an x-ray machine whilst travelling in one of our suitcases. Could this possibly affect the disc? Anyway, just clutching at straws.

I think it could - I'm no expert on that, but considering that data is stored magnetically, the x-ray could have altered it so it can't be read.
Well, if you can't burn that disc, see if you have a friend who has the same game and get the third disc off of him to install. -
I've checked the 3rd CD and it seems there's now no data to be recognised on the disk! Maybe the data has been lost after all, and this would certainly explain why we can't install the game now, even though we did so on the PC last week.

Interesting that it worked before . . it might have degraded somehow, I'd see if a friend has the disc that you can borrow to install the game.

Go to the airport and demand compensation. Tell them there were no signs stating your disk would mess up. If you would of saw one you would have taken it out.

It's just strange that the disk installed perfectly 2 days before flying out of Gastwick, and then the disk is blank one day later after having gone through aiport security and its x-ray machine. Of course, this could be just coincidence, but I'll certainly make some enquiries when we go back through Gatwick.
