    Hey all :)

    Next question. :D

my new Samsung has 540M as gpu and I would like to know if I can underclock it; I will fold with it 8-12h

Has anyone tried to underclock it with rivertuner? Any tips are welcome :)

    Many thanks in advance.

Rather than use Rivatuner 2.24c, which hasn't been updated by Unwinder in quite some time...Why not use MSI Afterburner

    MSI Afterburner

This is really the most updated version of RivaTuner by Unwinder. He does Afterburner for MSI and Precision for EVGA. Afterburner gives you the ability to undervolt, overclock and more. He pretty much built these utilities as extensions of RivaTuner...but easier to use...and he keeps them up to date, because he is compensated to do so...

Any experience with underclocking? I know about overclocking but not the otherway around. I know 525M is the same as 540 but with lower speed.

I would like to know if 540M will get problems if I overclocked the core from 672Mhz to 680MHz? I overclock the memory 900 to 920MHz. is that okey?

Accourding to MSI afterburner I can overclock the core and the ram pretty much (max: core 875MHz and memory 1170MHz)

    Thanks in advance

That is a very small overclock and I don't know if you will see any differences.
    And by 6800... you mean 680 :D
Try a 10% - 15% variation to stay within the safety limits.

    thanks for the correction :)

10-15% of the maximum oc? I do see some small performance increase but I am careful since laptop don't have endless energy resources. I don't even know if i am truly oc the gpu; the 550M has 740MHz as core speed. The ram is the only thing that I can say that I oc.

If 550M is the reference than all in the same familly are underclocked; for instance AMD hd 6770M and 6750M are the same but 6750M has lower clocked which means that someone who overclock his 6750M to the same Mhz as the 6770M is then 6750M really oc?

if I overclock from your advice I will come to 773Mhz and the ram at 1035MHz as max.

80C is the normal temp when I play(680/1360/920MHz). When I fold and grid I have 85-87.

Thanks in advance and for taking your time.

You can clock it even higher (in percentage), but if your GPU works at a constant 90C, I'm afraid it is a little too hot compared to how it was meant to operate. Try to keep it under 85-80 and you will be fine (for example 550M clocks).

The cards are core related, so I believe I get what you mean by real oc, but the ATI card cores are not the same as Nvidia's.

    Thanks for the tip.

I did look how hot cpu is in idle and it's 50-60 (it's to much I think). I think the gpu is getting is temps due to the cpu; I see that the cpu reaches these temps which means that the 85-7C comes from cpu at 2.0GHz.

Your idle temps for the GPU should be 35-45C. It may be even lower if Optimus is enabled with your GPU. I am not sure. When it comes to the CPU, it depends on what exactly you are doing, but generally, your CPU should be 20 to 30 degrees cooler than your GPU.

I have optimus on since intel HD is the primary gpu and nvidia kicks when it's needed. My gpu 30-40 completely idle and the cpu is like I said around 50. I am participating in World community grid (cpu) and folding@home (gpu)

When exactly should the cpu be 20-30C cooler.

Once the warranty is gone I will dissamble it and put new thermal past.

When gaming, mostly, but like I said, it depends.

I see. I will look at the temps while and tell you in a sec.
