Kotaku.com is running the story now too so its legit. I already played through on Xbox 360 but if the newly expanded multiplayer is better than the 360 version I may have to get this. Plus mods, unless they do some type of crackdown on them so there won't be hot coffee 2.

The BIG question is, will this get the DLC the 360 version will get since obviously Microsoft owns the 360 and Windows?

It looks like this will not be a "Games For Windows" title? I wonder if you'll be able to play online against 360 owners?

was just a matter of time. console sales dip, pc version announced. its really right on schedule, and it has been the whole time.

i think everyone expected an october/november release for the pc version anyway. i was one of the hold outs (only have a ps2 console!)

I bet it will be Games for Windows, but I'm really hoping it's not Games for Windows LIVE. LIVE is the one that means you have to use MS' network.

Nice, but I hope it'll be better than the console version, especially the controls. But more importantly, is there even a remote chance my laptop will run it at low settings?

i dont think its shown up yet (maybe it has?) but microsoft has exclusive rights to downloadable content in gta4. of course, the pc has its own modding scene, and additional online content in the box, so it doesn't even matter for us.

Brainer I think GTA IV looks more demanding than the old games. There is just so much detail in the graphics in this game not to mention HDR lighting, dynamic shadows etc etc :)

it should run it fine. 1280x720 or maybe 1024x640 and medium high settings for good framerate. the adjective you get to use depends on who you are talking to.

Indeed, the previous GTA games had fairly low requirements and even though GTA IV uses a totally different engine, it's still not as demanding as today's FPS games.

Anyways, I'm kind of happy they've announced it, but on the flip side, I'm kind of annoyed R* did this to the whole PC community.

I know they struck deals and what-not, but they've treated us like dirt.

And we're supposed to just jump up-and-down and kiss them? No, I won't.

I have it for the 360 and it's not a bad looking game, but nowhere near as nice (hardware intensive) as say mass effect or gears of war which both play pretty well on a mid range PC. Also Rockstar has done pretty good on their ports so I don't see a poorly coded game.

I'd imagine 8600m GT ddr3 playing this at medium-high settings at 1280x800 with no AA

    Just my guess though

i don't blame them for trying to optimize their profits on this game. i think they spent about 100 million dollars making it. its a masterpiece and i am fine with a delay of 6 months for the PC version, especially if we get a little extra for the wait.

    cheaper price AND extra content.

of course i would prefer to have it on day one. but i understand their perspective, and they could have given us NOTHING for the wait. instead, they gave us extra content and $10. how much can you really complain?

^ ^ This. I really don't mind waiting for PC versions of games. You know the production values will be high and while I was waiting for this i was playing Mass Effect PC, DMC4 PC. Its a tedious ~6month after cycle but it saves me from buying a console, paying more for games, paying for DLC, and paying to use online services.

i don't mind a delay for PC version either, that way they'll have more time to get feed backs from other people and optimize stuff. Mass Effect, for example, has its tactical window completely redone for PC version, though the quality of the new design was okay at best

I also think it will run mid-high on a 8600m...

And yes, the delay can be beneficient <like 4 polishing and stuff>

But 'nuff said... (the wait will be unbearable though)

If I'm not mistaken, previous GTA games ran pretty well on PC because they were made for the PS2 which had no support for shaders at all (behind even the Gamecube which had something similar to DX7 T&L) and Rockstar didn't really bother to add too many additional effects or increase the textures significantly over the console version when they ported to PC. It's great if they keep the existing console code path for mainstream users, but hopefully they put some effort to take advantage of the greater capabilities available in PCs. Unless there is pressure from MS to not outshine the XBox360 version.

It's obvious the PC version will look superior, compared to the 360 and PS3.

Even if Rockstar didn't improve on the graphics that much, modders would still overhaul, just look at Crysis, Half Life 2, Grid, STALKER mods etc

San Andreas had a mod that enabled you to see the entire game world at once, no popups or anything!
