It's been very mediocre after Underground so I wouldn't miss em.

the NfS series has been spiralling downward ever since Most Wanted. imho, it's time for a change, so this might be a good move. of course, EA being EA, they'll just bring out some new arcade racer with tuning elements and cops.

Good. Underground 1 and 2 were brilliant, everything after I just couldn't get into. ProStreet was awful...

The only high points of the NFS franchise I recognize are Hot Pursuit, Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2 version only), and Most Wanted. NFS 4 and Underground were alright, but the rest I really did not care for. In the past couple of iterations it's been like EA has put less and less resources into the franchise but has demanded more than ever before. It's sad how they've let the franchise slip and how far away from its roots they've gotten.

I really wish they'd wise up and give the franchise one more chance. I say go back to Hot Pursuit, remake the Altantica resort, desert canyon, mountain pass, rural county, and Empire city environments as cities but not fully fleshed out in all areas. I'm talking about merging the open-world aspects with closed circuit courses to create hybrids. On top of the multiple courses aspect (ie: Aquatica shared part of the Atlantica course), open up some areas of the courses to multiple paths or side-by side roads to allow players to choose their path depending on weather, traffic, and vehicle performance conditions. Put in each race a pre-determined set of police vehicles like in Hot Pursuit (ie: they do not spawn randomly or have impossible driving ability). Allow players to customize, upgrade, and acquire various vehicles. Then allow all sorts of different ways to play the game and insert a campaign and multiplayer. That would revitalize the franchise.

EA ruined that franchise. Ever play PGR1-3 on Xbox/360? That's how NFS should have been developed after the PS1.

i remember tNFS2 Special Edition. I got it in a box set with dungeon keeper, theme hospital and a couple of others. that was good, but hot pursuit 2 beats all other NFS games IMO. it was just perfect. everything about it was great fun.

i think midnight club 2 was pretty good. better than some of the NFS games. i played that for ages just finding new jumps i could do on a bike. like playing GTA but with better cars.

NFS just got too attitude fuelled and anti social. it was tedious having some half virtual person having a go at you before each race, while a size 0 model bends over in front of you at every opportunity.

If they were to add more maps, GTA 4 could be a better "racing" game than NFS.
