    I recently bought a Compal ILF90 (Geforce 8600m GT) and I'm playing NWN2.

I checked the FPS and it says something like 10-13 when I am in a area with some people, 20-23 in exterior, without NPCs, and 40-45 in interior areas.

Is this to be expected? I was hoping that I would be able to run this game at max settings (right now, everything is activated, but the character and environment shadow are at low quality) with something like 30 FPS, since people can run games like Crysis at 30 FPS with medium settings.

    I am using 1280 x 800 resolution too.

Where I can get the latest drivers? Maybe that could be the problem, but I am not so sure that this is the only reason. Can someone guess what is the problem?

    Thanks.

and all game patches? i know there was similar problem with different language versions - i got in my hands both polish and english, but then it seems that there was something wrong with polish edition as it run horribly... when english one showed great fluidity :D and as english is almost my second mother tongue i chose to sell the polish version :D

AA is turned off. If I turn it on, the game becomes unplayable.

    What is AF?

About texture filtering, it is low, but I can use linear. The FPS doesn't significantly change.

And, yes, I am using the last patch, 1.11.

    I believe it is 169.09

    [VĂdeo]
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz (2195 MHz)
    Operational System: Microsoft Windows Vista
    DirectX Version: 10.0
    GPU: Geforce 8600M GT
    ForceWare Version: 169.09

This is what nVidia System Control Panel says.

I reinstalled the Forceware 169.09, but everything seems to be the same.

I think this is strange because people with Geforce 8600 GT (Desktop) don't have a so bad performance, and they even use anti-aliasing (x2 or x4).

I will run 3DMark06 and compare the values with other Geforce 8600m GT out there and see if there is something wrong in here or if NWN2 is to blame.

I am using Windows Vista Business on this PC. Could it affect the game somehow? Many of the graphic resources from Vista are turned on. Should I turn it off?

Turn off all shadows. That had a dramatic improvement on fps on my Toshiba X205-SLi3.

It's a shame that NWN2 is such a horribly optimized and bugged game. Took all the fun out of it.

yeah, but on some rigs it works for no obvious reasons flawlessly :D i was just wondering maybe the vsync or some other weighty process is there... prefetch of objects etc. into memory? or maybe there's another process taking a lot of ram in the background? i honestly dunno.

Vsync, how do I disable this? It is not the first time I hear I should disable this thing to play NWN2 with a better peformance.

it should be either in the game video options or in the driver/control panel of the vid card. perhaps in both.

I've just executed 3DMark06 test and got and result of 3580.

The GPU seems to be fine then. I guess I'll ask at Bioware's forum. Thanks for the help, everybody.

Heh, on my 8600m GT NWN2 runs pretty much maxed (no AA/AF).

I don't know what to say if you have the game patched and up to date video card drivers...

Could it be that your NVIDIA control panel is set to use AA and such, and in NWN2's case the games settings aren't overriding it?

Make sure NWN2 is patched as well... the original NWN2 shipped pretty buggy and the latest engine updates helped a LOT under most systems.

I have no issues running NWN2 at comfortably under most situations... turn shadows off however, as they just plain cause trouble.
