i'm just wondering if s.t.a.l.k.e.r shadow of chernodyl will work good on my imac 17" . it looks like a sweet game but im not sure if it'll play good on my comp as there arn't very much in the terms of demo's accept a Russian one. Half life 2 runs perfect on my computer at max resolution, and maxed out everything, and it looks like stalker runs the same type of graphics but just wondering if anyone could tell me if it would run ok on an imac 17" with 1gig ram, and a ati x1600 graphics card.

I'm pretty sure you're going to want more RAM for STALKER; it will probably run but you'll probably need to tweak your settings.

Look for people discussing the settings they are using with the X1600 on laptops, and you should be fine with similar settings. The X1600 in your iMac is pretty much the same as the X1600 in your average laptop, so it should give you a good baseline at least.

No idea. If you can find people discussing the performance of Rainbow Six Vegas on the mobile X1600 though, it should give you a pretty good idea.

Yeah. Rainbow six 3 on a x1600... would be a better idea to throw your laptop off a 10 story building.

Hmm, I'm in a handy position where I've played both of these games and I have to say that they're both demanding in different ways. Rainbow Six: Vegas needs a really high spec system to begin with (you need a GPU card with Shader Model 3.0 just to run it), and the video settings in-game aren't as configurable as S.T.A.L.K.E.R's which can easily be tweaked to run well on lower-end systems. But generally, I'd say that Vegas is much harder to run.

disable the dynamic lighting option, and you should be fine on med-high settings. As for R6:vegas, it's a different story, and i'm afraid that low settings is the only to go for you.

vegas would be fine. On my X1400 i can go with low settings med. res. So you can do at least the same. Im sure if i put the res at low, I could crank up the graphics.
