i'm thinking about downloading STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam i have the GPU to run it smoothly, so i figure i might as well get all the games that are fun/demanding, Um one of my questions is Clear Sky a true Sequel or is it a remake of the first? because they say all this stuff like you are gonna travel through the same places and whatever i like the exploring games so this game seems intriguing

It's sort of like Fallout story, setting and gameplay wise; post apocalyptic free-form exploration action/fps with some rpg/adventure elements. It's non-linear, and fully explorable right off the bat. Sort of like Fallout: the FPS (so, more sneaking around, exploration, shooting, a lot fewer conversation options and whatnot).

Clear Sky is actually a prequel. I have played both Stalker SoC and Clear Sky. Both are worth it. Clear Sky still needs some patching though so you may want to wait on that one.

Here's some shots of SoC I took with FRAPS.

Some from Clear Sky for comparison (Clear Sky uses DX10)

Dynamic wet surface (which is amazing)

If you like games like Morrowind, and Oblivion, and like FPS games you should like both Stalker SoC and Clear Sky, though the RPG elements are a little light in both games.

How is the performance of the game?

Is it as others say that you cant play it even with the best hardware out there.

My performance is great, mornings I get a little FPS hit cause of the god rays. I play it on high settings at 1400 x 900 on a Toshiba X200. Yes Clear Sky does suffer from Crysis syndrome, the Ultra settings are bringing top of the line desktop GPUs to their knees... The recommended for Ultra is 9800 or greater. If I try the Ultra settings it looks like a powerpoint presentation.

But as you can see from screenshots even high settings are stunning. :)

Can you post some scrennshots (in resolution 1440x900) showing actual FPS, because my GF 8800M GTS can't handle those setting (1440x900, high, DX10-wet surfaces) smoothly. So I'm bit curios ;) .

Sure, I just need a link to a hosting site that won't resize the screenshots (photobucket resizes everything), been looking for one anyway. I will take some later today and post them on whatever site you suggest. :)

I have two videos as well, just keep in mind I take a bit of a performance hit when recording with FRAPs. The first is a video of the scripted Bloodsucker attack in Agroprom the second is an unscripted emission (blowout) in the garbage area (don't know why the option to run in high quality doesn't appear on the second).

STALKER is the best and good looking fps i ever played and i replayed it again on my new notebook with a much better mod... it really is a worthy game to download. When it first came out... it have some minor issue, but after awhile more people start developing some really cool mods that make the game much much superb and better!!! Play it with mod and you will enjoy it!!

never have i encountered such a tremendous game ever made... only a few bugs though...

currently searching for CLEAR SKIES... nice screenshot btw!!!! :D

just immagine when they fix the FPS problem.

But we must remember the CGS are very small company comparet to some other.

Far Cry 2 team is huge with 400 peoples working there and i thing on Stalker CS are just 50 if i'm correct.

just incase, for everyone out there with Clear SKY. use this programe here, it will boost your FPS, since it will somewhat fix the dual core problems a little bit..

After you install it, run it, then CLick on automatic, and Enjoy :D

Having CD-Key is only necessary for multiplayer, singleplayer doesn't ask for it.
Anyway, I'm going to Walmart this week for game exchange.

The cd key is printed on a sticker on the back of the manual. ;)

hmm... I tried it and the game does get better fps but I also get some serious mouse lag and a little movement lag... :(

(can't really play properly with all those mouse lag so I decide to turn your program off for now... )

i have a problem with my STALKER CS
I own sager m57ru with 8800mgtx on board and penryn t9500.
    A patch 1.1 installed.
    GPU drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
All games were running very well so far (Oblivion, NFS : PS) on highest settings, but Stalker after laying for 10-15 minutes gives me bluescreen and shuts itself down.
    I play dx9, 1900x1200 high details.
During playing gpu temp. goes up to 75 degrees sometimes and i suspect this is the cause. What else can cause it and what are the solutions?

Not sure why but I have the second patch and I play it smoothly at 1440x900 with DX9 custom high settings and most of the times my gpu (with 177.92 driver) would go up to about 82 degrees and so far I don't have any issues at all.

The only thing is that after I installed the second patch I have to start over again coz the old save games won't work.

But then again this is stalker so it wasn't too bad replaying coz everytime I play different stuff happens (like different factions killing each other or different groups of mutants attacking at different places)... so it doesn't feel like replaying for the most parts... :) I'm just loving the whole adventure, awesome atmosphere and experience in Clear Sky! :D

No way can an 8600 handle Full Dynamic Lighting above 30 frames per second. I have the original. Wiley will need to use Static Lighting, if he wants high settings at 1289x800.
75 degrees on the gpu is not enough to BSOD your comp. Check your CPU temps, or try reinstalling your driver.
