Do you need to play the first one to connect with the second one or can you just go straight to the second one?

    Do they connect storywise?

They do connect, but the events from the second happen before the first. So, it will make even more sense if you don't play them in order =D

Better to play Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky and then Call of Pripyat. I can't explain without giving away anything... lol

Chronologically it's Clear Sky -> SoC -> CoP. Some advise playing in that order. Most advise not playing CS at all.

My laptop is pretty close to yours. I do have to turn some stuff down but it still makes it look good. The problem is that all the stalkers suck on optimization from the start

Well when my broken arm heals I'll reinstall it and see how it runs on lower clocks. But keep in mind I'm running on a pretty high res, so if you have a lower res you have a better chance at getting good settings with it

I just ran this game with the mod installed (had it for awhile)
i set the game at 1440x900 resolution (my maximum)

for in game setting i had it set to full dynamic lighting and graphics setting set to maximum with two tweaks

    1. i turned AA off.
    2. i enabled grass shadows.

I started a new game and th spot where you spawn was giving me 30-36fps but once i got out into the game world it was a nice 40fps with dips down to 30-36 but it never seemed to go any lower. i then got into the first firefight in the game and fps never dipped below 30 so i think you should be able to run it fine if the gpu you have is at least as powerful as my 9800m gts. keep in mind also that this is with game set to maximum graphics with full dynamic lighting so you can easily get fantastic fps tweaking the settings but i consider 30 fps great for a single player game.

It is a great mod, but the game is a bit of a hog XD
I get 30+, maxed settings, all the time, but after crysis and 4v4 battles in SC2, I have never seen my CPU and GPU usage go as high!
But still, it is great, wait till you get to the Sewers, the shadows and lighting are top notch!
    Have fun everyone! =)

The patches fixed almost all the bugs =) 1.0005 and 1.0006 are the newest, they do a good job, the mod makes everything better yet again. I've put about 25-26 hours into it so far, and have not had one crash or glitch at all.

You're no true S.T.A.L.K.E.R, before you play with Oblivon Lost at the hardest difficulity.

Complete 09 may make the game pretty but it's still too easy.

Well, im not bragging or anything, i just think the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series are quite interesting games which can be very immersive if you let them.

LURK had pretty good potential, but imo they kinda bugged up... Especially by removing artificats equipment...

If anyone wants challenge for SoC, i recommend you:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oblivion Lost U.L.T.I.M.A.T.E. Download, Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl

Basically a mod of Oblivon Lost with tons of good stuff included... I love the massive amount of new weapons too, instead of those silly default weapons.

Hi guys just to clarify, If I buy the complete bundle from steam, and then download all the separate patches from above website. Then I will have bug free stalker ? And I will be allowed to teleport (as for me that was more of a put off as walking everywhere is a pain) ?

Many thanks for what seems like a stupid question.

    If you:
    1. Download from steam
    2. Update to patch 1.0005
    3. Download the Complete Stalker mod

you will have a bug-less game, with teleportation. (it's not right off the back, you can't use it from the word GO, but it's available by the time you would want/need it.)

I too always play FPS games on hardest difficulty with highest reality and STALKER was no exception. I turned off all assists/crosshairs and went pure ironsights but the one odd thing I notice about STALKER is that it's difficulty settings are a tad too arcade-y. For a game like STALKER I would expect hardest difficulty to make AI and enemies smarter and ammunition more rare, etc, when all it really did was make them tougher. At some point when you shoot an enemy in the head several times it begins to become obvious that hard != realistic, and that GSC could have done a better job on the difficultly settings instead of just scaling up hitpoints.

@All - I think there should be a difference between HARD settings and Realistic settings. 1 headshot = 1 kill in realistic settings. That includes shots at your character as well.

Also.. has anyone noticed whether STALKER COP plays better on a non-steam install vs a steam install? I have read some other threads where some folks claim the game is smoother from a disc install vs steam. Does anyone have FPS logging or vids to support this? Thanks so much for your time.

    Best Wishes,

    StevenX

This was an under budget game developed in 2002. In an interview it was stated that every programer in the Ukraine had programmed for the game at some point. The game is one big mod, so dont be to critical about it. Its def a savage game for how much it was built for and how it was developed. Power to the little man in the industry

My friend just gifted this to me on steam :), I was watching him play a bit though and hes savage good at it, it took him a billion shots to take down a single enemy was rediculous. Except he pulled out the sniper and was head shottin everyone left and right so I know one shot on the hardest diff still works.

On the lower difficulties hit detection is toned down so the AI doesn't hit you as much, however, and I don't know why it isn't patched officially yet, hit detection is turned down on their end too, so it might take four shots for the head shot to connect. NO idea why. Playing on Stalker difficulty, with Complete mod lends itself to pretty good gun play in my experience, however.

I'm playing it on my desktop at present using the Complete Mod with a 4850 at 1680x1050 (CPU is a PII X4 at 3.4) with everything maxed and I average about 45-50 fps. Lowest I have seen is 30 something. Guessing that at lower res's on the lappy you might be OK. Not tried it on my laptop yet (9800GT) so I can't comment on that :D

Unless maybe with the highest caliber rifles, it really doesn't. Many of the human NPCs and definitely so the mutants and other NPCs can withstand way too many rounds/grenades/damage (to the head included) on the hardest difficulty.

GSC isn't as small or ragtag as you might think, and even still it's no excuse. Things like this are just a result of oversight/carelessness. Really, if they weren't able to make a proper "hard mode" that fit in with the game, they should have left out the quake-style "hard mode" since it surpasses the point of willingness to suspend disbelief. I can believe smarter, better, faster AI, scarcer ammo, more frequent jams, etc; I cannot however believe titanium shielded enemies that withstand the unloading of several high-caliber rounds into their face.

Its trying to emulate how people really shoot guns, your not gonna be stone cold accurate every shot you take, its trying to replicate that for you , increasing its difficulty. The game ISNT meant to be easy, thats the whole point. I died like 3 times in the opening because of like 2 random bullets taking my @$$ down.

I just installed S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and i run it at high settings averaging 40 FPS. I do however think the graphics is pretty bad for such a new game. I mean any game that has Unreal engine has better graphics.

It is like it has no shader support, all the surfaces are matte or not shining.

Anyone else think the game has pretty old graphics for being a 2010 game?

Looked really good to me, have to make sure other settings are at the highest. The settings are a bit different than SoC.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

GSC did alter the game a bit though, toned it down a bit since Clear Sky was kicking the high end PCs in the junk so thoroughly. XD

Apparently there really are "real" stalkers out there, packs of wild dogs and other such things.... Google it, its just.... Wow.

    I want to visit Pripyat...
