SOOOOO PUMPED! This is probably one of the best animated cinematics of all time. Kudos to blizzard.

SC2 probably the biggest love/hate relationship I have ever had with any game... I want to get this for the single player if nothing else but thats a steep price and it will almost never go on sale.

Thought they were making a Warcraft movie.

Still thinking if it's worth the money since the last one was a bit disappointing in terms of single player content.
(For some reason I really don't enjoy multiplayer for rts games no matter how much I try to like it)

I like to play on my mac and since there are very few mac games around i rarely hesitate to buy a blizzard game, not like they launch it more then once per year or two.

I would love for them to make a movie too. However, making a full length movie with animation this good would be an enormous undertaking. It likely took their studio months to make that 3 minute clip. A full length film would probably cost in excess of 250 million dollars, require them to more than triple their staff, and it would probably take 2 years at least to make. However, Avatar was like that too, and look at the returns it made...

They have actually said they would love to see a starcraft movie made, but its not really a priority for them at the moment. However, I remember a post from them on the subject last year said that if an accomplished sci-fi director contacted them (they specifically mentioned James Cameron) about doing one, they would start working on it the next day. Weather they would do it animated like their cinematics, or live action with lots of CGI was not made clear though.

True, if they would make a movie in 3d with this sort of graphics rather let my character take a walk there then show a made up storyline :D Makes more sense when i think about it like that.

Please not James Cameron. Anyone but James Cameron. Zerglings would be sensitive children of nature who would teach us the error of our consumerist ways. There would be lessons about renewable energy. And carbon neutrality.

Such an awesomely dramatic cinematic for a game that will basically boil down which side can better manage their economy and structure their build orders.

I didn't quit Starcraft II when I first heard Day 9 say that you should play the game looking at your economy instead of your army; I quit Starcraft II when I realized he was right.

Then again, this is par for the course for Blizzard recently. Should I post a comparison of WOW cinematics and typical WOW gameplay grind?

I loved the single player and playing it over to try to get as many accomplishments done as I could. I also loved playing all the custom games online. I didn't play so much regular multiplayer, but it was fun to get online with friends every once in a while and do it.

I don't like SC2 because it's not a game of strategy and it's bit nerve wracking. It's a game where you have to remember all the hotkeys and short cuts and it's about how many actions you can do. Just watch any of the top players, their strategies are not impressive, they are the same strategies used by someone who is completely new to the game. It's just these professionals can click so much faster and have everything memorized to a T.

I do like the single player campaign, at least there is a story line for it. I always like a reason to do something. That's what the ME3 co-op did so well, you are given a reason to do something and you understand it, helps when your single player gives a fantastic foundation in lore. But whatever, I'll check out SC2 HOTS for the campaign, but the MP, no thanks, I don't need to stress over hotkeys and how fast I can do something. There are more fun ways for me to game without stressing over that.

Unlike starcraft wow plays and feels exactly as advertised. Although it did get dumbed down. I actually liked it when epics were... epic.
Sure hardmodes are still challenging but its not that cool when all you get is a bit more stats and maybe very slight recolor.

WoW will never be as epic as Sunwell. I loved that Blizzard admitted Sunwell was too difficult because only .05% of the population actually completed it as intended, not after it was nerfed. They said, they would never make a dungeon as difficult and as awesome again. Sweet, glad I quit when I did.

Ulduar was far superior to sunwell. Way more epic, exciting, big, and rewarding. Even Vanilla/Burning crusade purists will often admit Ulduar is one, if not the best raid WoW has ever had.

I can barely make a sphere in Cinema 4D... when I see mad CG skills such as this, I cry. :)

The (still) directorless WoW movie will come out first IMO.

I am waiting for a RMAH attached to Starcraft where you can buy and sell wins. (or resources)

    /sarcasm off

The biggest problem is that the imagination in the marketing department hasn't changed.
They are still very good at marketing and their video artists are top notch.

They fired all the gamers who knew how to make a fun and challenging game and put the accounting department in charge.

Blizzard went from "when its done" to "whatever we have when it will make us the most money in the short term".

Blizzard is now the company that sells disappointment when they used to be the company that creates dreams.

And notice how this thread has only 350 views as of this post. Pretty sad considering the traffic through the gaming section of this forum. After Starcraft 2, many people I know who were occasional Starcraft players are now completely put off by it. Casual players have no chance in ladder play at all.

Its mostly because the RTS scene has been pretty desolate and bland since the dissolved of Ensemble Studio's several years ago, especially compared to other gaming genre's that have dozens of different title releases a year. Now that the makers of Age of Empires and Age of mythology (and now with THQ gone, Company of Heroes), Blizzard and SC are the only real choices left.

So Heart of the Swarm drops March 12, 2013. It costs $40 (most expensive expansion pack ever?). Anyone here going to get it? I'm somewhat wary of it myself, and I bought SC2 on day one.

I got the HOTS digital deluxe edition and so I had been in the beta for a few months.
Personally I think the game is great, more polished and more features, with the new units and single player, I think $40 is quite a deal and so grabbed that deluxe edition instead lol

I pooh-poohed this, but after reading some reviews, I think I'll get it. I like the emphasis on a level-building hero unit in the SP campaign (almost WC3-ish) and a greater ability to customize your units for the SP campaign. Also, the story looks deeper and more compelling than Wings of Liberty's.

Also, it's nice that the game is blissfully free of microtransactions. An increasing rarity nowadays (whether we're talking unlocking guns and characters in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer or Diablo III's RMAH).

I think this thread is a sign of its demise. 932 views in the last two months. A game that is supposedly appealing to tens of millions of gamers. I'll get it when they offer the box set with all three expansions for $20 in about five years.

edit: lol, I didn't realize it's been out about a week now.

It's still Korea's national sport though, isn't it? Serious question.

What's odd about its launch is that it's everywhere that's quiet, not just this forum. I looked long and hard for official reviews from IGN, Joystiq, Ars Technica, etc and couldn't find any.

Saw it at Walmart on the shelf, had some big sign talking about a midnight launch event.

Was surprised to see it $40 because I thought it cost more than that directly from bnet. It's a game I want for sure, but purely for the single player at this point so I can wait for it to be cheaper in price and have more time to play.

it feels a bit pricey at $40. If I remember, I preordered SC2 for not much more than that, and this is just an expansion.

Yeah, it' does feel a little pricey, but it's not that bad. In terms of single-player, it's a third of a trilogy instead of just an expansion. Besides, I'd rather that they charge what it's worth instead of embedding some microtransaction scheme in the game. Also, it's been two years since I bought Wings of Liberty, so it doesn't leave a "day one DLC" bad taste in my mouth.

    It's $40 on battle.net as well.
