    Hey,

I've been reading in a lot of forums that we cannot trust Speed Fan's CPU temperature measurements, because it usually shows temperatures per core around 15 ºC degrees lower than what they really are!

Which means perhaps you're there, happy and calm playing a game on your OC'ed C2D CPU at 70 ºC (according to SPEED FAN) and actually you're close to burn it at 85 ºC !!!

So, my question is: can we REALLY trust the SPEED FAN, when it comes to temperature measurements on Core 2 Duos???

I do not trust speedfan. too many temps that doesnt show what they are.

HWmonitor/Coretemp/Rmclock are to be trusted. I suggest using HWMonitor if your gonna benchmark temps because it records the highest peak temps. Also its very simple.

I stopped using Speedfan after I started using Notebook Hardware Control and Coretemp for the same reasons stated above earlier.

Since your worried about your CPU. I suggest running ORTHOS dual core cpu loader while having HWmonitor on. This is the most accurate way of test/stressing the cpu. This will definately give you the right answers

I used it when i undervolted, both Hwmonitor and rmclock along with ORTHOS to test stability and max temps

    Hi.

it`s a pitty INTEL dont provide a util to monitor temps or do they?

As that would be the best source for reliable temp information.

I have noticed that their can be quite a large difference between utils.

    regards

    John.

Speed Fan has that issue with early Q6600 processors, I believe. I don't think it is an issue with dual cores.

Otherwise, I'd just use something else entirely, probably something suggested above.

The only incorrect temps with SpeedFan are for Intel Core CPUs. This has been fixed in the 4.34 beta.

I've tested the HWmonitor and found out that the Speed Fan really SUCKS!!!

All its measurements was wrong... and it got even worst about the CPU's measurements... when the average error hit 15 ºC lower than the real temperature of the cores...

In other words, avoid Speed Fan at ANY cost!!!

Speedfan (The latest stable version) gave me the same readings compared to Intel TAT. This was on my desktop Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.78GHz, but this was also a few weeks ago before my XP got corrupted. I had no issues, and have no issues with using it still.
