    hey guys,

some idiot today tried to steal my account ...i got a message request by the user name 'ACTIVATION' :

ACTIVATION: Hello, this is steam activation. It has come to our attention that your account has been flagged for password recovery. In order to waive this claim, we require you to enter your steam username and steam password. This will enable us to lift the claim as this information, will give us sufficient reasons to believe the owner of the account is real. Thank you.

i clicked on 'view aliases' and saw he was just a regular user with a normal account trying to get my username and password.

obviously i am aware of some incidents but never became a target...i wasnt home so i received the message when he went offline...so i tried to find more info on him..

his Steam profile URL is: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197998085821

he is in a steam group which i am in too and hence he could find me in the first place, i found his complete profile: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197998085821

and now he is in trouble...

i have alerted admins, mods & friends on a popular Counterstrike forum (ya he plays CS and CZ mostly)

most likely he ll be caught.

some screenshots of the idiots attempts:

True, but there are a lot of stupid people out there. Why else would these scams be so successful? It's a multi-billion dollar industry.

I read some articles on people who have been conned by the Nigerian 419 scammers, and some of it is really unbelievable.

Lol. Swat team swarming the house, snipers on adjacent roof tops, Police dogs waiting to be released.

Hope to see it on a future episode of Cops, or Americas Most Wanted. :D

Noctural I find this helpful and if not for you I'd probably fall for it and alot of the other gullible newbies. Teach me what steps your taking in order to protect yourself and build a case. I see you have screen shots of his message but how are you tracking this guy. Cause all I would've done was just notify Steam and then probably never hear from them again or about what was done or not done. I'd really like to know what the end result of this situation will be.

Throw in a car chase or two and you have a complete episode of America's most wanted. :D

On topic, thanks for bringing this to the attention of other people even though it seems like some idiotic scam thats never going to work, a few fall for it none the less.
