Star Wars: The Old Republic: PC Performance, Benchmarked : The Old Republic: A Little Backstory
In short... long as you have a mid range GPU you should be fine, unless you really want to max out MSAA/adaptive AA.
And the game tends to favor AMD gpus, but only by about 10%.

Would this game run on a Alienware m9700 with 7900 GSs?
-
Not sure this helps anyone but my laptop has an i7 2720QM chipset 8gb 1333 ram and an Nvidia GT 550M video card 1gb DDR3 Video ram and I tested the last build "release" version of beta.
My system ran it with around 35-40 FPS with medium to LOW settings. This suprises me since my system stats are above the recommended specs by Bioware yes was not able to really turn up the graphics. To benchmark my own system I turned it to High settings preset without changing anything and only got 15-20 FPS during game play.
Maybe because my video card is Nvidia or maybe my mid range card just does not keep up with this game in paticular I am not sure but I was not impressed by the performance. I can play other games with similar graphics like rift and others at nearly constant 50-60 FPS. Oh well the game should be going live soon so I am sure new tips and configurations will come down the line to help but that was my experience. -
If you can play Rift that well, then SWTOR should have been no problem. I have heard tho of some people seeing bad performance while many have no issues at all.
I have an HP DV6-6135DX, which has an AMD 6750 card as a graphics card(it does crossfire with the 6620 that it also has) and I was able to run butter smooth with the "High" setting(I never tried the Max settings tho). The only thing I did was lower the shadow quality. This was done out of habit tho before I even really played, since in most games, shadows are a culprit for slowdowns. -
I'd think the older 7900gs could handle this game at reduced resolutions, your real bottleneck is that single core processor. Get the fastest clocked amd processor you can for that laptop and enjoy some low setting mmo goodness
-
anyone get the email to start yet? Pre-ordered august 3rd and still no email.
-
I just got an Alienware m18x with SLI 580M. Can I play SWTOR?
-
no. Alianware products are banned by the developer.
Few times i preordered something and shipment just screwed up so i got those games 2-3 days after release which is rather depressing considering the fact that i payed money in advance. -
They're still at around when the game was initially available for pre-order (July), but it also depends on when you registered your early access code.
-
Might need to get the Intel i7 2920XM or higher and OC it and while your at it OC the 580m's too. -
My dv6 with the A8-3500M OC'd to 2.4Ghz and 6620G did not run the game very well. 8GB dual ram also for boosted GPU. I was surprised considering it can play Sc2 and Skyrim at 30+FPS which is fine for me. WIth SWTOR on all low settings and even low res inside the sith academy it was like 12FPS and when you go outside it finally went to 25-35FPS. (CRTL + SHIFT + F for FPS reading). My desktop though kills it so I'll be mostly on that but itll definitely just be for questing on the laptop.
I'm going to mess with some more settings sometime though.
Preordered and registered on July 21st so I got access since 7AM this morning. W00t -
wanted to add that even on low settings, the AF in the client_settings.ini is at 16x. This can be turned down to 0 and it helps some. 5-10FPS more makes everything much more playable.
-
This game is whats making me want to buy a new notebook, currently using an MSi GT725 that has a Radeon HD 4850, I can play at about 25-35 fps on generally low settings, but definitely want to make sure I can max SWTOR with no compromises if I buy a new rig...tempted to get a 6990m setup but also think I should wait a few months for just one more "next best" to come out lol, ya know, "future proof" it just that little bit more heh.

I tweaked a lot of the settings during the open beta, lookin forward to doin it again as soon as I get my invite XD, but I got my computer almost 3 years ago so it shows its age a bit lol, which is a shame because other than gaming Im completely satisfied with it:
Newegg.com - MSI GT725-074US NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8600(2.40GHz) 17.0" Wide SXGA+ 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850
For once, though, I want to ensure I can play on max settings, something I was never able to keep up with even for WoW lol:
Radeon 9200 - WoW Beta
Radeon 9800 - WoW Classic
Radeon x1400 - WoW BC (notebook)
eVGA 8800 - WoW Wrath
Radeon HD 4850 - WoW Wrath/Cata (notebook)
Even though WoW wasn't/isn't a really demanding game, I still can't play on max settings, and I think that if I spent the extra 100-200 bucks back when I bought my current GT725, I wouldnt be so eager to get a new one...something pyschological about seeing "low"...almost like hearing your music on the oldies station lol...
Edit - I should add that I hardly actually "game" on my computers, still got the ol' PS3 and 360, they are essentially my MMO adapters lol... -
I have been playing swtor since early release opening barely level 30 and the game is fine at 30 FPS or so in PVE flash points (groups) 40-50 FPS in solo questing areas but PVP is killing me.
I dip down to 15-25 still in PVP even with lowest settings when moer than 2enemy players come around.
I dont know why my system is not running swtor better I have everything nearly as low as it goes and my system uses: i7 2720QM quad core, 8gb 1333 mhz ram, Nvidia GT 550M 1gb DDR3 grapics card...
I am guessing my main bottle neck is the video card but that same card can play other MMO's at much higher and more stable graphics settings than swtor for some reason. Maybe Nvidia will release some drivers to improve how the mid ranged GPU's work with this game who knows. -

I can play The Old Republic on my thinkpad t420(mine is with the HD3000 IGP) and it plays pretty good on Medium settings and if I want to play it at max I just turn on my external graphics via ViDock.

HD 4250 Mobility Gaming - Star Wars: The Old Republic - YouTube
If you are wondering how it runs on a low-spec machine, check out my video (should be done processing soon). The machine is the Toshiba in my signature, so it has the AMD HD 4250 Mobility card.
But, here is the bottom line: the game runs like garbage on these specs even if you lower the settings to as low as possible. -

Game runs ok? good your play SWTOR but with better graphics.
Its ok GW2 is not out yet, but when it is you will be required to burn your copy of SWTOR, even if its a digital copy then you must burn the computer it occupies. -
Hey, don't wanna make a new thread for this so I'll throw it in here.
Is there a trial for this game, or are there any trial cards for people who bought the game so they can can hand out to their friends ? -
One person in another forum section said that he couldn't run it above 30FPS with GTX 280M on low settings, which I find really strange.
-
Thinkpad T400 with ATI 3470, 4GB ram on intel G3 120GB SSD. Almost unplayable outdoors. Completely unplayable in big cities/flashpoints (0-4fps?, lots of game freezing). Everything on low.
As an aside, wow plays great except for 25 mans. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I think there are some stability issues with the game. I doubt something like a GTX 280M will struggle to run a game that has WoW System Requirements. It has to be driver configurations of being typical EA, didn't release the game stably yet,
-
Has anyone tested the newest Nvidia beta driver they just released a 90.53? build for any of the 500 series cards while playing swtor? Any improvement or is it the same or worse? -
Geforce gtx 570m here ( i7, 8giga Ram, Windows 7 64bit ). My performance in Swtor has been terrible since pre release ( between 25/30fps in 1920 with most stuff on medium and shadows off) I thought it was the game that was just really poorly optimised so I didn't worry much at first. But then on Balmorra, and in battlegrounds, the framerate started really dropping. I erased my previous drivers and installed 290.36 twenty minutes ago.
At the moment with 1920, no AA, and Medium textures, Low filtering, Low shaders, No shadows, Low character details, 60Hz, just running about in the Balmorra plains gets me about 30fps, as soon as I engage combat it drops down to 17/20fps.
Does someone else have any experience with the game and a 570m or even a 560m ?
I did fiddle start fiddeing with the ini file an hour ago. I'm worried I may have messed something up. Could someone post their default ini file config so I can check mine, please. -
I've got a 2 yr old ASUS w/ Nvidia GTX 260M. I was expecting it to have some trouble, but it ran smooth.
-
-
-
Fixed ! I reinstalled the game. Something was wrong, I don't know what though. I feel like a bit of an idiot. Now textures on medium, just about everything on high, 2xAA, I get a solid 40fps.
-
Game runs fine on a m14x. Settings at in game HIGH.
-
Game runs fine here on a Gx640. Definitely running better than it did in Beta. It'll only get better from here as they optimize the game in the next few patches. Also, the game has only been out for two days. Future drivers should only bring better results in the coming weeks.
My desktop with 2500k @ 5.0 ghz and single 560 Ti destroys the game at 1920x1200 resolution. 100+ fps almost all the time.
P.S. for people having trouble. As a temporary fix, turn off shadows and play in fullscreen(windowed) mode. I saw some fps improvements doing that on my laptop. -
It runs fine on a AMD 6870M at high settings here. What's weird is I'm getting 60-80fps outdoors but some indoor areas, I only get 20-30fps? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
-
Does anyone have a 2670qm with 6770m video card (dv6) and play swtor? What kind of settings are you getting?

I was playing SWTOR on an M570RU with a Geforce 8700m GT before my husband bought me a new Sager NP8170.

I guess it would also be helpful to speak about it a little bit. There is a huge thread in the SWTOR forms describing "Ability lag", and I was experiencing a lot of it on my old laptop, but with my new Sager with a Radeon 6990M, the problem has gone away completely. All of my skills are instantaneous, and the game looks great.
For the most part though, it was smooth and fluid on the old machine. If you don't PvP much, an older vid card is fine on the lowest settings. -

In fact, I like my new laptop so much I'm getting my husband one as a late Christmas present!
-
I hate to bump a thread that's a few weeks old, but I figured to bump it instead of creating a new one for my question.
Anyone getting any playable results on a nvidia 540m? -
^ I don't see how a 540m couldn't do well paired with any type of SB CPU. My x220 runs the game very well on lowest settings at 1366x768 on the HD3000 and i5. I have zero complaints given the hardware; I even have a desktop that maxes the game out at 1080p with AA on.
-
I'm really optimistic about it. The laptop I ordered was really getting good reviews as far as gaming on it goes. The Acer Aspire AS5755G-6823. Not built for gaming, but it's definitely blown a lot of people away with it's capability for hard gaming at such a low price.
People on newegg were saying they were getting playable results with SWTOR getting about 30-40 FPS on medium settings and 40-60FPS on WoW on max settings, as well as a bunch of highly playable results on other games. I'm excited. -
Yup, your laptop should be able to handle the game just fine.
One thing to note though... MMORPG's can be more CPU intensive compared to the gpu...
I have a question though...
How would my laptop be able to handle it (in sig)?
The 9600m GT has been OC-ed to 9700m gt levels (or desktop 9500 GT) and I will receive a new X9100 cpu and 8GB RAM soon.
I know the gpu is not exactly stellar, but I'm hoping that SW TOR would be able to run somewhat ok on it at 1280x800 with reduced settings (say medium)?
SWTOR benchmarks ...
