This is my opinion on how this game will go for most people

Hour 1: This is game is cool! I just killed a wookie!

Hour 2: Man this game has so much to offer, WoW cant match up to this at all!

Hour 3: Heh ok so you want me to collect battle droid parts again? Didnt I just do that with repair droids earlier..?

Hour 4: Ok ok im in my first instance... *SERVER CRASH*

Hour 5: I PAID FOR THIS GAME AND ITS NOT WORKING, EA FIX IT OR I WILL QUIT THIS GAME AND NOT GIVE MY MONEY

Hour 6: Woohoo the servers are back up :D... *Collect storm trooper helmets*... ok well f this game

just my opinon on how this game will play out for a lot of people really excited for this.

Optimism +0 go guild wars 2

ps: if you bash my guild wars comment who cares! its only a B2P

I hadn't heard of this game before, but I looked up the trailers, and it looks interesting and very ambitious Videos | Guild Wars 2

The dev mentions that there is no monthly fee, so you just pay $50 or $60 to buy the game and never have to pay anything else?

I would have considered TOR because I liked KOTOR, but there is no way in hell I would pay $240 to buy a game (12 months @ $15/month, + $60 for the install disc).

Yes. This is one of the only MMOs with a "buy2play" plan, rather than the usual "pay2play" or "pay2win" (cash shop) MMO payment systems.

Just are they continuing the same strategy from Guild Wars 1. Great game. Pay $50 for the base game and you are good to go. The expansions are worth it too and you pay once for those as well.

That certainly sounds a lot more reasonable than the pricing for SWTOR

If only there were more buy2play games! There are some P2P games that I can put up with though, like EVE Online, although i'm not sure if that can be classed as a P2P as i've managed to go months by paying using the in-game currency!

I wish I could have gotten into EVE. After trying twice to get to the HQ of the corp I joined, and getting blown up at the last jump point twice, I decided I wasn't interested.

Yeh it took a considerable investment of time to get into it, but after I did it was so much fun! Haven't played it in a while now though, so hopefully I haven't forgotten it all. It's like riding a bike.. right?

I really don't like f2p MMOs. I don't really play any MMOs anymore, but I despise cash shops and microtransactions. I'd much rather pay a flat fee every month to get full access to the game.

Out of curiosity, how many expansions are we talking? Does it eventually add up to the same cost as a 15$/mo MMO?

There's only one "expansion" (Eye of the North), along with 2 stand alone campaigns (Factions, Nightfall). You can PvP/PvE with either/all campaigns registered to your account and let's say you don't like the African inspired Nightfall campaign, you can just buy Prophecies (the original) and Factions and have loads of content to look forward to. I'm pretty sure I bought all three campaigns (not the expansion) for $50 over the course of several years (which brings the total cost for 6 years of playing at $150, pretty nice).

Not at all, there were 3 standalone games and one expansion actually for the original but no. also it wont have an in game shop like other non subscription mmos, it will have equal or better graphics to rift, be updated regularly like a subscription based mmo and in my opnion be the best because theres no auto attack, no "tanks" "dps" or "healers" everyone supports everyone but everyone is accountable for themselves and you can self dodge you know what just watch this video

you would have to be spending $180 every year on expansions!

anyways, couldn't you just continue playing the original game without buying any future Guild Wars 2 expansions? and is there a modding community for this game?

I'm so excited for Guild Wars 2, I just wish we could get an acutal release date, instead of "When it's done".

Well just because you don't think the game will be good doesn't mean others will not enjoy it lol.
