Just about the place a order for sacred 2 fallen angel and the last remnent, ive read some reviews and they both seem to be getting mixed results, so have any of you guys played either of these games and if so what are your experiences with the game(s)...
I used to be a huge square fan..many years ago, chronocross, vagrant hearts, final fantasy 6 etc so thought 'the last remnent' might be right up my alley.....anyway please share your thoughts...cheers

The Last Remnant is a huge dissapointment, it's filled with various glitches and has massive frame drops. It was Square Enix first game on UT3 engine so I guess we can forgive them.
As the game itself ain't so good either, the story is dull and characters are just boring. Gameplay is somewhat innovative, because the battles are huge, but that doesn't mean it's good. Most of the players were turned off because of the new battle system.
Play the demo, then decide if you want to play it or not.
Sacred 2 is a decent ARPG, with a huge map. Nothing special either. Story isn't really intresting, but at least you have two options (Shadow or Light campaign). Note that Ascaron (the developers) filed for bankrupty because the game was only slightly successful in Europe.
(And this game is also filled with bugs and glitches, it has been patched several times and each time every patch fixed something and created new bugs at the same time)
If you want a good ARPG, then I would suggest Titan Quest. -
whow thats not exactly what i wanted to hear.......ok so when was t
Titan Quest released?......
you said that ascaron filed for bankrupty does that mean that they are no longer releasing bug fixes?...i dont mind if a game has bugs just so long as the developer is prepared to support the consumer and fix the problems.....
im hoping some one else has so good things to say about The Last Remnant, i respect you view but would be keen to hear from afew more people as well....you mentioned slowdown when playing it, what rig where you playing it on the one in your sig?
maybe it performs alittle better with a more powerful machine......ive im just about to recieve the sager NP8662 with the GTX 260m and hope it will handle most games i through at it.....
thanks for your imput..... -
Well it all depends on what type of person you.
I concur that TLR isn't a great game, but I'm playing it and I find it pretty entertaining for what it's worth ^^
Main thing is that I find the whole thing a bit confusing at first. There aren't really many explanations and as some reviews said, you have to be familiar with the RPG genre to appreciate the game otherwise it's a bit confusing.
I'm not really far in the game, but I like it well enough so far. However like most RPGs, it is stricken with the grinding factor. At points I've found out that I had to stop and do a few areas a couple of times to level up before advancing >.>
I haven't noticed anything performance wise with the rig in my sig, but it's on the UT3 engine which is quite efficient and I've heard stories of people who can nearly max it out on a 8600M GT. I would however suggest turning down certain effects since I would understand large battles to create certain lag.
If I had to grade it I'd give it a 7 out of 10 -
Titan Quest was released 2006 and practically looks like Diablo 3 (as much as we've seen about it).
Anyways there will always be unoffical patches and Ascaron just released PS3/X360 version of Sacred 2, so they are forced to support the game at least 6 months. There is a demo for Sacred 2 aswell, you should try it. It's really not worth $50 USD. Maybe worth a rental, but that's it.
Gamespy review and Eurogamer review.
Now, The Last Remnant has been flamed on this forum ever since it was released. Many people were expecting it to be good, because it still is a SE game ... but yeah, the only good thing about it was the soundtrack. The slowdowns are not because of the requirements, but because of the sloppy coding (as I mentioned, it's Square's first game on UT3 engine and the Xbox360 version was nearly unplayable)
Here is 1up offical review and here is TBG review of it. It's metascore is also just 67/100 so it's very mediorce.
You can always test the games before you buy, so try em.
Here you can download The Last Remnant demo. [1.01GB]
Here you can download Sacred 2 demo. [1.71GB] -
I did a full review of Last Remnant on Gophn.com.
It was pretty fun if you can look past some minor annoyances. -
Cheers guys.......interesting to see how ones mans dream is another mans nightmare.....downloading demos for games isnt a possibity im afraid im in rural india with a 4kb/sec gprs connection ;-)....(can you imagine how long it would take to download!)
@Forever melody 7/10 isnt a bad score its sort of in the range of you either like it or you dont category....maybe why ive had such mixed results from the reviews...
Thanks for the review links ive read afew and found them to be alittle inconsistant hence seeking NBR thoughts on the game....
Sacred 2 doesnt bother me too much its a hack and slash type game and to be honest rate all these games in the mindless buttonfest catogory........just good fun looting and somewhat satisfying killing hordes of enemies....
Gophn thanks for the review, i liked it, honest about its strengths and weaknesses and accepting enough to look past the flaws to see the games potiental and after reading it, felt like its worth a try......maybe lol........
Hmmmm -
I've heard from several friends that play Sacred 2 that it's a ton of fun. Not nearly as polished as Diablo or Titan Quest, but it's very open and a lot to do.
Do you have any consoles? I can suggest some nice rpgs for you to try depending on what you own. -
Yeah out of the two games listed sacred 2 seems to be a keeper.......reviews say its decent and im reading that player ratings are alittle higher so im going with that....
Nope dont own a console only the 2 notebooks in my sig......console gaming isnt so much fun in a area where power cuts are daily and often...now afew more player opinions about 'the last remnent' and im set to place my order -
If it helps, I think it has a nice feel to it. I mean, in terms of the general layout of everything it's pretty nice ^_^
As I said, the biggest thing for me were getting used to the system(since I wasn't much of a big RPG player) and dealing with the grind.
I still think it's a good game and was worth by 10$ >_>
Only thing bothersome is Steam since it takes forever to update the first time -
The Last Remnant only sucked on the Xbox 360, because of bugs and a horrendous framerate. I was having a good time with the Steam version, and my 9800M GT ran through it easily.
-
It seems gone are they days of buying a game, putting in the ode and then playing until its finished....... -
Sorry id better clarify....im planning on buying the disc version of the game and have it imported to me in india, cost is $75, if i buy this version of the game will i still need to update via steam or could i do it from other sources...ie xfire....thanks guys....i really dont want to have 2 game hosts open at one time......so id use steam to register the game and then disable it completely....dont want to use steam daily has no benefit for me with my terrible gprs connection.
-
Yes it's a Steam game so you need to register and play through Steam. I've only created an account to register the game and haven't had anything to do with Steam ever since other than when I start the game it starts Steam to play it.
You don't need internet to play it after the first installation, but the game activates through Steam itself. -
Ok thanks alot for that...ive gone ahead and ordered them both should be here in afew days....is steam including with the dvd or do i need to download it seperately?
Thanks for your assistance. -
Steam's included on the installation disc. You just need to make yor account if you don't already hvae one and register the game. Then it should give you a paper to print out to remember the info and you only need ot update the game the first time and you're good to go ^^
-
ok sweet...how big is the update mate...remember ive got a 4kb/sec gprs connection....anything more than 5mb and ill struggle lol..........
i may have to make a trip into the local township to connect up there if its big...what a hassle -
Not sure about The Last Remnant patches, but Sacred 2 patches are around 4GB. (Total)
-
TLR hasn't had any patches, not that I've noticed.
-
It's not a patch I think, it's just that the first time you run the game after installing everything, it needs to connect to Steam to validate itself or something. I've only had that once(the first time I played) and it never happened again.
It's this little message that says "updating" so I was assuming it was something like a patch or whatnot >.> Took a few hours for me though lol -
@ forever melody.....ok thanks for that...i wonder how long it will take with my connection to activate the account......?maybe i can get it activated just before TLR2 is released ;-)
thanks for everyones input....i ordered express shipping so they sound be hear tuesday or wednesday at the latest....ill let you know what i think...... -
I have a stand-alone retail TLR.
didn't realize there was a steam version.... kind of annoying that you need steam to play an offline-only game. -
idk I just went to the store and bought the game >.>
Honestly i don't mind Steam, it's just an intermediate thing that opens when the game opens. It really does nothing else lol(except maybe take up my precious disk space O_O) -
@forever melody did it say on your box steam required or was it something you only found out during install.? -
Well there's this little black box on the back that mentions Steam yeah so I suppose my version is a Steam one(whatever difference that makes).
I suppose it'd have been less hassle to get a retail one, but honestly, I had to look a long time just to find a freakin' store with the game so I didn't bother on whether it was Steam or not lol -
Yeah mate its no problems.......i understand but for me it will be great if i can get the normal retail version of the game given my internet situation.......but for people with anormal internet options it wouldnt be a big problem.....now i really hope its the normal retail version.....im guessing it is caue it didnt say you need a internet connection to install, or that one needs a steam account.....so heres hoping.
Thanks mate...im really looking forward to it now haha -
Well actually Steam might be an advantage since basically it only installs Steam on my computer and plays the game through Steam.
I do wonder where my save games are though since I can't find any folder >.> -
Hmmm....id rather not have steam just to play a game off line, i use xfire happilly and dont really want my notebook clatered with things i neither want or use......but if i have to i have to...its ordered now and is in the hands of the gaming gods as to which version i end up with.....did your version come with either japanese or english voice acting?
-
I think it came with both yes. It's set at default for English and honestly, I was surprised it didn't sound horrible like some English dubs of Japanese games >.>
I understand not wanting Steam. I was kind of upset when I got it first, but I don't really mind now. The internet would be an issue for you I suppose though, but it's only for the firs time. After that internet isn't needed. -
Yeap, anyway its out if my hands now mate, ill let you know what ends up happening....enjoy the game...cheers....
Sacred 2 and the last remnent...decent games?
