So guys, what's your favorite horror game? The poll above is weak I know but it's the only horror games I could come up with atm.

The scarriest horror game I've played is Doom 3 but only for one part of the game. The part where you're walking down the corridor and the lights flash, you see a huge guy holding a chainsaw, the lights flash and he's gone. You walk a little ways farther and it happens again. That freaked me out lol.

Mehhhh I was debating between Quake, and Doom, but ill go with doom 3. When you go to hell and stuff really freaked me out, because all of a sudden, a guy would pop out of no where, and you didnt have your guns anymore, so you had to go and run and find them. And that chainsaw part freaked me out a bit too.

Resident Evil 4, never really scared me, i just enjoyed it a bunch.

Quake 4, I was at a 3 day LAN when i beat it, so maybe thats why it didnt scare me.

But with Doom 3, i was playing in Pitch Black Darkness, with 5.1 surround Sound, then only light was from my Saitek Eclipse Keyboard and barely any from my computer screen, and i would just hear gun fire from every where, and people screaming etc. aggghhhhhhh...... Good times :)

I always thought Silent Hill was pretty intense.

And does anyone remember the Clock Tower series for PS1 that had that limping midget with the big hedge clippers?

    Good times.

Silent Hill 1 on the PS1 wins every time. that is definitely one of the creepiest games I've ever played.. even when you find that fire axe you still feel very vulnerable! From what I've heard the latest one on the 360 is just as bad/good (depending on your point of view!)..

My fiance still remembers the sound effects from the first one coming from the living room late at night lol and that must be nearly 10 years ago

Oh, and Half Life 2, when you go to Ravenholm, that was pretty freaky, but you got used to it. At first it scared the Sh*t out of me.

Half Life 2 is pretty freaky, but not anything in the way of scary. The scariest games are console based. Fatal Frame *shudder. It was literally messing with my mind so much I had to stop because I was literally going insane! Once I reached the room with the crimson sacrifice in Fatal Frame 2 I had to stop. I was being driven insane by a video game! Literally.

To me Resident Evil had a lot of freaky moments, but nothing too scary for me.

Alien vs. Predator wins by default.
F.E.A.R. had its moments, the rest was just mildly entertaining when it comes to horror moments.

I didn't find Half Life scary, or even creepy.

My vote goes to American McGee's Alice (it's not scary, but freaks/creeps you out until you **** your pants), Clive Barker's Undying (awesome game), or The Suffering: Ties That Bind.

http://www.konami-data.com/silenthill/ even their website is spooky! <-- this doesn't show mention of SH5 yet tho

Just to add tho.. I see no one has mentioned System Shock yet! The "midwives" in System Shock 2 were pretty nasty.. actually most of the sound effects were pretty damn scary when you're down on ammo and health and looking frantically for you next health booster/food!

    Winner is zelda.

Like the purple zombies from windwaker.

They come out of their caskets like. :| "unnnngh"

Then they turn at you and go. :O! "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!"

    But I dunno.

I guess Doom 3 made me jump at some points. I think the games complete and utter never ending darkness had to contribute to that.

    Always gotta remember Zelda tho!

The FPS's mentioned (HalfLife, FEAR, Doom 3, etc..) are not really horrors, they do have their scary moments though. They are borderline scary at best... as compared to the list above.

I do not remember Light Crusader.

The best part of The Immortal is the ending. The final boss holds up a coin that prevents the dragon for killing him. So, you simply use a magnet spell. The magnet spell steals the coin and the dragon likes you and kills him.

I think there's a big difference between BOO!!! scary and messing with your head scary.. not many games do both! and those that do are the best horror/scarriest games out there!
Doom 3 was just BOO scary for me but like I mentioned earlier Silent Hill & System Shock 2 did both.. snag for me is that a lot of the newer games go for gore effects without getting the freaking you out bits working well!

It looks like Bioshock is out soon which has System Shock 2 as it's predecessor so hopefully it will have some of that same pedigree! oh and it's DX10 too just to add to the interest!

Glad to see a few people have mentioned System Shock 2 and Undying. Pound-for-pound, doesn't get much scarier from start to finish. The only reason these aren't being mentioned even more, I'd guess, is that they're pretty old school and most people haven't played them probably. For those who haven't, do yourselves a favor and play SS2 - it's one of the best FPS's ever (graphics aside).

I've never played any of the silent hill games. I did watch the movie and I found it creepy. And as always any movie based on a game does not give the game justice. So if the movie creeped me out no tellings how much scarrier the game is.

That's awasome that Hello Kitty won the poll. I guess we can honestly rename it to HELL KITTY! RAWR!

to be honest i got scarred more times playing half life 2 than f.e.a.r. And I'm talking about in times when everything is dark and spooky. I mean when those flying things (forgot the name) just come flying out of nowhere. Before I have the chance to turn my view and kill them they are right in my face doing damage to me.
