    Hey,
I just messed around with Coolbits and am trying out OC speeds, anyways I have a DELL and they are of course notorius for underclocking their Cards (I have a 7800 Go) Anyways I went to over clock (or rather clock up to regular 7800 Speeds) and I didn't know the correct speeds for the 7800. I checked Website I couldn't find it anyways, I just chose Detect Optimal Settings and it boosted it around 100 Mhz on each I believe. What are safe Overclock speeds for my Dell. Any specs you need to know are in my Sig if not just ask. I am primarily running F.E.A.R and BF2. Thanks

Thing is, that auto-detect thing is really random. Do it manually and go up in small increments like 5mhz and check for artifacting.

Also do a quick google search for other people with the same videocard and see what they are getting. Use those results as a baseline for your overclock, but remember not all cards overclock the same amount so you may go higher or lower than what others have.

Go get yourself rivatuner, an overclocking, tweaking tool and use that instead.

It gives the option of overclocking without checking stability first. This is great because many TESTING done by these programs are not very reliable. Sometimes it says it's okay other times it will say it's not stable, but you never know.

Warning, that tool can be very dangerous so do some reading before using its advanced features.

    Cheers,
    Mike

The nvidia recommended for the 7800 go is 350 core and supposedly 1ghz ram. But the ram is way off and most people overclock theres to the 850-900 range for playing games. The max Id set it at for gaming would be 375/900 but thats just me. I dont see alot going over that wo artifacts or a voltmod which really isnt neccesary as the card at 375/900 will get you around 5800 in 3d mark 2005. I keep mine at the nvidia standard 350 core and 850 memory which gets me 5600 in 3dm5. There is a huge leap in performance by bringing this card up to its designed clock speeds. I get anywhere from 15-30 fps boost in games by reducing the underclock and feel safe at 350/850 since I really dont consider it overclocking. My temps with i9kfangui blowing both fans on high are 56c idle and 84c under hours of gaming. With the original clocks dell set it at your still gonne be at about 80c while gaming so I dont consider the extra 4c a threat. I guess dell underclocked these due to a heating issue I can really see no other reason they would do it as dell likes there product to be competitive. Most people say the 7800 gtx is alot faster but if you look at the numbers its really not when you compare the two at nvidia recommended clocks: 5600 pts for 7800 reg VS 6600 for the gtx give or take on both. The real shiner is going to be the 7900 gtx 512 which I am eagerly awating and hope we can put in our e1705. Until then, The 7800 go is a heck of a performer and I have been very pleased with its outcome. I hope this clears up some things.

DO NOT OVERCLOCK WITH SOMEONE ELSES SETTINGS!

no matter what you do, do not do it that way. you will find that you may NEVER hit those speeds, and when you do, you burnt out your gpu..

IF you choose to overclock...do it in small 5-10 mhz increments, so if it does artifact..you only have to go back 5-10 mhz...if you choose to do it by say...50-75 mhz..that might take your GPU too high past its peak, and just damage the card.

also, after each increment, run several runs of 3dmark0x..you must check for artifacting..play games..put load on the GPU..if you dont test it, you might think it is stable..and then it will just keep crashing or rebooting..etc.. and you wont think it is the OC.

    rinse and repeat..

ALSO...you must get a cooling pad..even though it is only a few degrees lower, you need to keep your GPU cool..if you dont, you will overheat and crash.

    ^^ What pb said.

Just use what other people are getting as a baseline or max limit and work your way up to it.

Also remember these mobile gpus are different from their desktop counterparts.

    Cheers and happy overclocking~!
