I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend who recently bought a Sager NP2092 from xoticpc.
Whenever his GPU temp is below 88C, the fan doesn't turn on at all, but once it hits 88C it revs up like crazy which brings the temp down to the mid 70s almost immediately. 88C seems like a borderline temp for safety and he can't find a way to change the fan settings (SpeedFan doesn't recognize his fans). Without the fan on, the GPU idles in the mid 60s in 2D low performance mode (clocks of 100mhz, 100mhz for core and memory). It's not even overclocked yet. When overclocked it manages to reach the low 90s. Is there any way to force the fan to turn on at lower temps?
System specs:
2.5ghz C2D T9300
1.5gb ddr2 667
8600m GT DDR2 w/ stock clocks of 475mhz core, 400mhz mem
160gb 5400rpm HDD

That's very odd - I recommend contacting Xotic support, they are excellent based on what I am reading. It sound like a hardware issue, maybe a temperature sensor is malfunctioning or something.

Ok well he's trying that right now. Hopefully it's just a software issue.
