I am shopping for a new laptop. One that can play the newest games on high settings without any lag, like FarCry2 and Crysis and Modern Warfare2.

I am planning on buying the NP5797, with a 2.93Ghz Core2Duo. This is a good $500 cheaper than the i7-powered NP9280. Since everything else is the same in the laptop, the 280M included in both, is there much of a difference?

Is it worth the extra $500 to get an i7 over the Core2Duo? I mean the recommended settings for Crysis is a 2.2Ghz Core2Duo. Isn't what I want to get more than ample?

Wouldn't an i7 be just too much power than is needed at this day and age?

Where are you shopping from? And this belongs in the sager forum.

Anyway, if you don't mind the extra weight and size (3 pounds and some inches), get the NP9280. If you don't want the extra weight, get the NP5797. The NP5797 can perform just as well at gaming as its bigger brother with a QX9300, which I got off ebay for cheap.

Along with the obvious processor difference, the NP9280 has 3 RAM slots (instead of 2), and 3 HDD bays (instead of 1). Again, you decide yourself if you need the RAM or HDDs. Most people don't, some people do. And most people don't need an i7, but there others that do. The i7 is great for audio/video/photoshop editing, but will only make a difference in a game if it's cpu bound, like GTA4. Crysis wouldn't change more than 1 FPS (compared to a QX9300).
