I did ALOTTTTT of research and i found out that the reason xotic got rid of 6970 was because of stability issues and supply shortages. anyways, so Dell already has the 6990m released and i was wondering when it might be available for the sager 8XXX models. i was very close to buying a 8170 with a gtx 485 but the price is just ridiculous and the 6990 could probably beat the 485 performance-wise and STILL be cheaper.

also, dont as me about my current rig or anything, xD i dont have one. i have a POS toshiba laptop :p

xotic never gave a reason, clevo stopped supporting the cards and thats it. It should be soon, since clevo is already supporting it in the bios

The 6990m will cost the same as the 485m and give slightly better performance, really not gonna be dramatically better or cheaper as you expect it to be. The card is 50$ more than the 6970m and Clevo charged 245$ for the 6970m so i expect the price for the 6990m to be 295$. They are also currently charging 295$ for the 485m. Also i believe the will start offering the 6990m after the 485m runs out of stock.

Sager and resellers are still charging +$395 for the GTX 485M. The 6970M will be cheaper than that.

they charge 295 for np8150. i dont know why they charge 100 more for the np8170

6990m shouldnt be 2 expensive because even dell only charge 300 to upgrade to it (from a 6870 which costs less than a 560m)

Some resellers are saying they won't get them for 3-4 weeks, if you can wait I'd do that.
Would love to see a direct unbiased benchmarks between a 6990M and 580M GTX.
Can't beat AMD in price/performance and it should be a very good upgrade over a 485M GTX.

I don't wanna wait, seem like I been waiting forever. Is there any proof that the 6990 is a lot better than the 485m?

I wouldnt call it definitive but many threads showing it noticably faster than the 485/6970 and it looks like even a bit up on the 580.
we DO know its a desktop chip underclocked with all the shader units enabled.

No link just from what I've been hearing from re-sellers, just call and ask for sure.
All are very helpful and eager to answer any questions.

It's all about NDA. Until AMD says GO, nobody can say anything. They could have dates, pricing, tech specs, and benchmarks, and everything else right in front of them but can't tell you boo about it. Typically this info is released the day before or day that it's available.

I wish they would just flatly say, "we're under an NDA."

All of the "oh Sager hasn't even mentioned it existing" crap is just stupid.

Seems they have been prone to fail, but nobody knows how or even why?
The Norwegian Clevo reseller Multicom still stocks HD 6970m for 1300kr (240$) upgrade from the 560m.
The HD 6990m costs 1600kr (295$) so i dont know why people will bother to select the weaker card now.

My HD 6970m works great, overclocks like a champ and runs cool.
Ran a FurMark Extreme Burn-In and the temps stayed at 85c, so no problems.

There was nothing wrong with the 6970M. It was just phased out by the new card.
