I was thinking to preorder Saint rows 2 but when I watched its gameplay in youtube, I felt it was similar to GTA IV which I already own. So, should I get SR2 as I dont see a reason to get it? Any thing that SR2 is different than GTA IV rather than missions and story line?

saints row 2 for the pc?
sure, if you want it, i guess.
maybe i dont understand the question. -
Cynicism aside, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw makes a pretty good comparison of Saints Row 2 to GTAIV in his review of Saints Row 2.

When will it be out?

I finish the game on my PS3. Here's what I thought; Nothing is really exciting in term of graphic and physic BUT the gameplay is awesome, you can do plenty of ridiculous stuff that doesn't make sense. That really differentiate itself from GTA. Think it as a less mature more violence and funny in contrast with GTA.
And lastly, THE PEOPLE IN THE GAME REACT TO NUT KICKING/SHOOTING. Yes that's important to me. -
Looks like fun, and hopefully it will be more fun than GTA IV.
If they don't have such rediculously poor performance, and installation requirements as GTA IV, and doesn't limit your installs or require online activation then SR2 looks like a buy for me. -
Im going to get it but by judging from videos, the driving gameplay looks utter
-
Really looking forward to playing this game in co-op, and I'm loving the character customization. Also, the music sounds great from the video's I've seen. Too bad the graphics aren't good and the game appearantly has framerate issues on consoles, but gameplay seems like alot of fun.

Funny; I was going to make a thread for Saints Row 2. Haha.
Anyway, I think it's a breath of fresh air. Actually, I haven't played it yet. I don't own any of the next gen, except for the Wii. My brothers have a PS3, and I simply cannot play games in their room. Total immersion killer. I was playing Final Fantasy this summer on their TV and the younger one kept on asking questions:
Brother: Wait, so what happened to the Archadian emperor? Did he...oh no!
Me: Uhhh. Yeah.
Brother: And also I-
Me: Can you please not ask questions? Could you also move back a little, because that blank face you're making is killing to immersion.
Parent: He can watch, Brendan. (me) You watch them play games all the time.
Me: Burnout's storytelling isn't exactly the fulcrum of its value, dad.
Anyway. Saints Row 2 seems to be pure random violence, which is always fun. GTA IV is a great game with a great story; I'll give it that, but the game itself isn't as much FUN. After having to drive halfway across the map to replay a failed mission, I can get very easily frustrated. I'm one of those people who will reload if they ever get busted or die or fail a mission for that matter because I need a flawless record. Anyone else like that? Does SR2 track all your stats like GTA IV?
Either way, I don't think graphics will be an issue. Find any hardcore gamer rant on YouTube and they'll talk about the whole graphics don't matter at all. (I disagree with this, but I don't think graphics need as much attention as they're getting today) I almost meet recommended requirements, and I'm sure that I'll still be able to run it wonderfully. We're in the day and age where recommended requirements for most games can run the game on medium-high. I'm sure the framerate issues will be much alleviated on the PC.
I hate those games that postes obscenely low minimum requirements for their games. Crysis, for example, said that a 6800 could run it! Who in his or her right mind would even try to run Crysis on a 6800? Granted, it will run, but it won't be pretty, or smooth, for that matter. A good standard for recommended requirements is Sins of a Solar Empire. I meet the recommended requirements on the spot, and I run everything at high at 1280x800 completely smoothly.
I'm falling off course; I'm just saying that Saints Row 2 is more focused on pure fun. Most who haven't played Saints Row 2 dismiss it as a GTA clone. While the mechanics are mostly the same as GTA, the essence of the game is completely of its own. Saints Row's personality is completely different from GTA. If that didn't matter, Rockstar could have stopped at GTA III, because Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and IV would have all been "clones of GTA III." (no same developer counter-argument please) No one blamed the 2D platformers for all being awesome side-scrolling action, or the different sports franchises for being the same.
I think I just turned this thread into a battleground. Please keep it friendly. I think I'll impose a temporary ban on myself for the unrest I might have caused. -

So which one do you guys prefer?
GTA IV or Saint Rows 2? -
I can't answer that as I've only played GTA IV. On the 5th, though, we'll see. We'll see. Too bad play season is starting at school; I'm the lead, so I'm going to have no life during the weeks for two months.
-
I played Saints Row 1 on the Xbox 360 and it was really good. I'd have to admit it's quite 'GTA-like' but it's just pure fun! The gang wars and car collection is what I like most about Saints Row.
The requirements seem to be light too and the graphics aren't that bad. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
will the game have mods?
i loved the first on 360 and i just feel that SR is more fun than GTA -
Saints Row 2 takes itself way less seriously than GTA, and that makes it better, IMO. The "story", dialogue and atmosphere is pure tongue-in-cheek (nut-shots lolz), and the gameplay itself is very diverse. There are tons of activities to do besides the main storyline (septic avenger stands out) and basically there is a mini-game for everything from base-jumping to car-surfing to (yes) flashing and streaking.
There's tons of stuff to do, lots of secrets, and the story and dialogue will have you grinning. Having played through all the GTAs and Saint's Row 1&2, I would choose Saints Row 2 as my favorite. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
lets just hope that isnt as requirements as bad as GTA
-
Looks nice , hopefully I`ll be able to run this one on high, unlike GTA IV...
-
GTA4 asks for a Geforce 7900 / Radeon X1900 for a minimum, which is absurdly high. Saints Row 2 asks for a Geforce 7600 / Radeon X1600 for a minimum. I've got a good feeling about this.
-
Has there been any promotion for the PC release of Saint's Row 2?

Looking good... -

i might have to pick it up tomorrow -

lets hope to see different than gta

is the main character a mindless *jerk* in this one too? seriously though, the fun factor saved the poor storyline and cheesy acting in the first installment, so hopefully it only gets better. I don't think the physics will compare to gtaIV though.
-
The main character is apparently a badass, but then again, yes; mindless douche.
-
According to one of the developers the game will ship on jan 5th (today), and it should be in stores tomorrow (Tuesday).
-
IGN is not exactly impressed by the performance:
-
How? That's worse performance than GTA, there. Lower requirements. OBVIOUSLY lower requirements. *sigh.
-
Sigh... luckily I got a few more games to keep me busy. They don't really care don't they?
-
I've still not given up on laptop gaming as there's plenty other games I can play.
While I wish I could have a beefy PC, x360 and PS3, I can't carry all that with me when I travel ffs. -
-
SR2 has been a lot of fun for me although I'm playing on a desktop. I've been playing co-op LAN with my boyfriend on his desktop. The ironic thing is his rig is better than mine but he says he's experiencing considerable slow down. The game runs fine on my system but I experience slow down when I'm crashing into a boatload of cars during a high speed chase with a bunch of cops.
People are complaining enough so hopefully there will be a fix for these issues. My biggest pet peeve has been the lack of hi-res widescreen support. -
Ok, it's available on Steam but my wallet is giving me the evil eye so I'll have to wait to get it.... How does it run?
-
Cuss me and say what you will, but I enjoyed Saints Row 2 single player more than GTA IV single player. I played them both on the 360. I got bored of GTA IV after about 10 or so hours and I put a good 30 into saints row 2!
