I want to get a open world game like GTA 4 but I want to be able to run it on medium high with 2X AA in DX9. So decided to pick up Saints Row in the next few days. How will my laptop perform?

-I was about to get Saints Row 2 but then I read somewhere that the recent iteration of the game is optimized for PC's while the older version won't run unless you have the equivalent of a q6600 and a 8800gt. And I have less than 2/3 of that

Saints Row 2 is horrible on PC.
Its like how GTA IV performed, you gotta brute force the game.

But i guess your notebook could handle Saints Row: The Third.
People say its not performing that good on AMD because of a driver issue, but i cannot confirm as i only played it on Xbox 360.
(Sad but true PC rentals dont work when they enforce CD Keys.)

The performance is a bit hit and miss if I run it DX10 but I have CrossfireX with 6990m's so its probably drivers. I now run it using DX9 and its very smooth and looks just the same to me. Its a very good game, If you like GTA then its a must have.

I asked last week about this game on here. I decided to pick it up and its hilarious and fun. I have a m14x (sig) and it runs pretty well on ultra settings. The only item I lower is lighting which for some reason takes a hit due to ssao.

Im really not sure if the 9600 is enough to run it. If you have a console you might want to buy it for that instead. Its a really funny game.

    Happy Holidays

I recently finished the game on my 3-year old 6860FX with 8800m GTS GPU. If your GPU is the same or better than that, you should be able to run it, but not at max settings.

My settings were at Medium, but my resolution was set to 1280 x 720 as I was running on an external display.

Definitely playable--probably on par with console, based on my SR2 experience--but there were some hiccups along the way, such as a few crashes to desktop when I ran the DX11 executable (there were no problems with DX9).

All in all, I was able to have fun and complete it. I might do another run with a different character as there are some decision points that result in a different outcome/reward. I think you can demo the game on OnLive for 15 minutes to see if you'd like the game.

Highly recommended if you like crazy, over-the-top, open-world sandbox games where anything goes.

I wish I had bought that gateway a few years ago but instead I am stuck with this weak system. What CPU do you have in it?

I will be done downloading it tomorrow and will report my results

The game runs pretty okay for me on my laptop on high settings. I set some useless things off or to low, especially shadows since I don't care for them much. Some places the FPS is really smooth in others it's playably smooth. A few places it goes under that. Of course this is also an issue with the game as I have friends with much better rigs have the same problems.

I can play with the preset of medium where most things are on low except details are on medium with 2X MSAA and 1280X720 but the fps fluctuates from 18 to 27 while driving but never get under 29 while walking. The game needs a little more optimation because there is no way to force it to take advantage of my full CPU power which never goes over 50% and my gpu which never goes over 67%.

For the best performance, disable lighting, that is the most intensive settings.
