I have heard the new integrated graphics are a big step up.

I obviously don't expect to run games at the highest of settings or anything, but could I play Fallout 3/ New Vegas, Bioshock, Dead Space 2 etc., comfortably on it.

Probably on 1280x720 on Medium-Low settings. It is still not a very strong GPU for gaming in my honest opinion.

Well I'm getting a business laptop for college, so I just want to be able to play the games, as they overcharge for gpus in business laptops.

I'd wait for Ivy Bridge if you want a step up in gaming performance on an IGP but I still think even the weakest dedicated GPU is better than it.

Wish i could tell you its enough but without testing it myself i cant say for sure.
Intel did however improve the gaming performance and opengl rendering in SB drivers. ;D

They are indeed a big step up, at least for PC CPUs (not sure if the mobile versions will be the same). It seems that at least on the their integrated GPUs can beat the 40-50$ Nvidia/ATI GPU market on PCs. You can find in this report of Anandtech the performance for the PC counterparts. Personally, although impressive I think they will not fit into your definition of "comfortably".

    Hope it helps.

A high end Llano based notebook would be a better contender in the GPU section.
But we dont know what kind of buisness notebooks that will use it.
But its a high chance HP, Lenovo and Dell may use it.

I think Llano hits the market in a month or something.

Ivy Bridge might not be launched until March/April 2012...way too long to wait for someone planning to attend college classes in August/September 2011.

I was in the same predicament, don't game much, bought a business laptop for school.
Now that Rage, Skyrim, BF3, and D3 are coming down the pipes, I'd like to play them when done studying, so I built an eGPU.
    Just an option.
