When i first time turned FEAR demo it was... i was playing at night and alone... When i hear that girl or baby scream in sewers i totally shocked out pressing Esc ctrl+alt+del and almostt clicking the power off button, it was first after that i realized that fear is a mix of horror and FPS and not just something like ghodt recon, damn that was nasty surprise![]()

same here. i almost **** my pants playing fear. i swear i fell of my seat when i was walking up the stairs and bam the girl was suddenly there. whats worse was i used to have nightmares watching the ring and ju-on(the japanese/korean original)
-
Here's the official site; version 1.04 is a free download now. -
penumbra, i played the origional one when it first came out, i got to the first monster and it raped my ass, i had no clue how to kill it. -
I would say Penumbra is scary enough without any enemies. The scariest "game" I have ever seen.
Cheers,
Ivan -
The teletubies game?? JK...
i think FEAR is the scariest game i've played by myself ... i think -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
-
I would say Doom 3, but I haven't played the other ones. The one part in Doom that made me jump, was during a small stroll through a lab with incubated monsters in water, and while passing one of these floating things, it just lunges forward and smashes itself into the glass.
-
The US Ju-on (a.k.a. The Grudge) wasn't half as scary as the Japanese originals . . . -_-a -
-
about 7 years ago I would've highly recommended System Shock 2. That game was second to none when it came to creepiness and psychological horror. I tried to play that game at night with lights turned off and after 5 mins I had to give up. lol The ambience and the music would put most hollywood horror movies these days, to shame.
-
i thought they were going to come out with a system shock 3
-
ok..im gonna sound big headed but i really had a fetish for scary games a short while ago...i got my old stuff out and tried playing games. (some older stuff had me using an older compy) to be honest...
it goes soemthing like this.
WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG...
after playing doom3 i wondered why modern games were less scary.
i played system shock 2 and to be honest.....one of the scariest thigns ive ever had to play..and im saying this right after playing the likes of FEAR and DOOM3.
ok...if ANYONE could try this out..please please do.
THIEF DEADLY SHADOWS:
The Shalebridge Cradle level.
thats all im gonna say. -
From me :
1. Clive Barker Undying
2. The carnivores 2 (unknown but extremely scary)
3. Penumbra Overture (maybe the scariest) -
i thought the hl2 level we dont go to ravenholm was pretty freaky and scary but fun as hell, who doesnt love to use the gravity gun, get some saw blades and cut up some zombies
-
I'll share thoughts on some horror games that I completed, in-completed too.
Alien verse Predator Series==>
Alien vs Predator: Truly one of the scariest game of all time in pc game era when it surfaced in 1999. I managed to beat that game back in my teen age but boy was the marine missions so horrifying, kept my arse glued to seat throughout the whole game. Walking alone in dark long aisle, nothing but a trusty automatic rifle in my hand, kinda useless beeping radar and seemingly endless supply of flares ready for use. The scream from aliens tears through the night in outpost as I walk alone in shivering. That's the true experience I had after first couple marine missions.
Alien vs Predator 2: Basically the same experience I had with first avp but with more twisting plots. Playing through alien missions is a more rewarding experience than the first one not only you get to play face hugger (omg) but a deeper conspiracy is revealed in this way.
In term of scariness AvP outdone AvP2 probably due to really dark environment and the sense of being alone and the sheer amount of overwhelmingness presented by aliens just too great. Of course that is if you're marine.
Fatal Frame Series==>
Fatal Frame: probably isn't as well known as silent hill or resident evil, but it's a really scary game due to the game mechanics it enforced on player. Player has to hold the camera and aim the shot at ghosts in order to capture them. Sounds easy? NOT SO!!! They move around and you have to wait for the perfect moment to take shot otherwise you're just wasting precious film. The atmosphere is spooky and the fear for ghosts lurking around every corner just wouldn't stop. And there's ghostly girl too....
Fatal Frame2: Although I only played it briefly but this time the main character is a girl instead of guy.
Fatal Frame series shouldn't be missed if you like silent hill type of game.
Silent Hill Series==>
Silent Hill: It's such a shame that I only played silent hill half way through but as for some one whose first silent hill game is sh2 it's hard to ignore the graphic is very dated to PS2 standard. I have really high hope that Konami could make re-Silent Hill then I'll be able to enjoy the most out of it.
Silent Hill 2: I would rate this game as best silent hill game out of all. It is beyond scary, but the story flow and plot just wonderfully executed and beautiful there were moments I had tearful eyes (what in scary game!!) This game deserves a top 5 spot in scary games in my heart.
Silent Hill 3: This is the first silent hill game that made the revamped the combat system and made it more of action oriented more than ever. Don't get me wrong the ammo still sacred in this game but no longer do you need to use pipe bar to whack your whole way through just to save some bullets to fight boss. It's a overall great horror game experience.
Silent Hill 4 is absent here because I was discouraged by some online reviews that being totally different silent hill game. Silent Hill series deserve all the hype and praise because they're truly a gem in horror games, and don't forget they all have multiple endings to them.
Resident Evil Series==>
Resident Evil: The game I consider to spring all the survival horror games in video games. Not only it was graphic terrified (in PS era), but can we just never get enough of zombies. Nothing is more satisfying than blowing up some dis-proportional unresting beings in glorified gun blazing ways. There were moments I was shocked and literally jumped off seat by some zombies came out of no where due to fixed camera perspective. Good Job Capcom.
Resident Evil 2: One of my favorite RE title. Took me some good hours in order to see the true endings. Leon and Ada first shown in here as playable characters. It is nothing more than capcom hasn't done before in RE1, but the last boss fighting and the sadness of story carved in my memory so deep, it isn't till RE4 came out to take the crown of RE from me.
Resident Evil 3: To be honest after I finished this game, I found the game is shoddy compare to previous RE titles. It is as if Capcom wanted to milk gamers and want nothing but money. But it is the first time they introduce nemesis and this dude isn't too bad at chasing lady. Also capcom made combat tad easier by introducing 180 degree turn around button which is useful to get away from zombies. The only gripe I have about this game is story.
Resident Evil 4: The best of all RE titles I've played so far. Although it no longer scares me any more. What amazes me is Capcom really find the balance of action and puzzle solving and pull it out without falling somewhere like Devil May Cry. Ammos scattered plenty around but they're not unlimited, and the combat system is just done incredible well. It's hard to describe how great this game is, all I can say it's AAA title.
I missed resident evil zero and other span around RE titles, but I probably won't miss them too much with RE4 and upcoming RE5.
To be continued~~ -
i watched that level on youtube on thief and daamn is it freaky -
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
The scariest PC game of all time? That would have to be "Where in the heck did that function move to in this release of Word or Excel?"

Scariest game of all times:
TURBO TAX
I wonder if the tax man will ever audit my return.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
As mentioned before...
AvP series
Condemned: Criminal Origins.
I'm not sure I actually ever completed AvP. I still have the disks, maybe I'll have another go.. -
RTCW in the catacombs and fighting Das ubersoldat. Doom 3 was ok it was just to dark. The first Unreal had its scary moments to; like trying to escape the space ship and hearing all the screams and the first fight against a skarji.

can you download system shock 2 anywhere?
-
That Cradle level of Thief 3 is damn scary.
-
-
-
Yeah, pretty much all the great titles have been covered by one poster or another, and Penumbra is getting a sequel next year!
-
My top 3 would be:
Doom 3
System Shock 2 (Shodan's electronic mangled voice was spooky as hell!)
Resident Evil (PS2 version)
The main reason I include Resident Evil is the wall crawlers. There is an interrogation room in the police station that you go in several times (the kind with a one sided mirror). After awhile you have to go back to the room and since you already 'cleared' the area you are at ease...well wrong...suddenly a wall crawler jumps through the one way mirror at you! Oh man my heart nearly stopped on that one.

Pretty sure you're talking about RE2 for ps1.
-
Doom 3 scared the whimpering **** out of me when I played it in the middle of the night. Nothing like starting to shoot at your own reflection in the bathroom mirror when the lights go off.. Aieeeeh!
-
I remember actually being a little overwhelmed when the monster in skifree would eat the character.
It was my first lesson in fear suppression! No wonder I have so many nightmares...
And as someone mentioned before, a scary game really does need to be played alone and (preferably) in the dark. Horror movies are just fodder for groups because (whoda thunk) scary situations are not nearly as scary when the entire isolation aspect is removed (by watching them in a rowdy group). Also, I find groups of people distracting, and scary situations/games/movies require your undivided attention in order to really get the message across. -
Alright, so apparently I've stumbled onto some new yeti-phobia here... Perhaps I should open my own psychiatry business and cater to yeti-phobes

Clive Barker's Jericho might this category

Bioshock is seriously creepy...
-
Resident Evil.... The remake of the original on the GC scares the hell out of me.
System Shock 2 and Bioshock are both very creepy.
Silent Hill series is def. up there. And man... this game Sanitarium, not well known. But wowzas was that weird and creepy.
7th Guest was also a great creepy game ;-p
The old Alone in the Dark games were awesome as well.
I would have said FEAR, but the level design and other issues I had with the game made me stop playing it. -
A lot of people say that bioshock isn't that creepy, but the problem is its creepy in a very different way. Its not creepy in a way the the music builds up to a huge scare moment. It has those moments too, but what i think makes it so creepy is the overhanging dread that is built up thanks to the atmosphere of the game in combination with certain scare moments. If you ask me some of the scariest moments in the game are when some of the splicers are singing the song "Jesus loves me this i know, for the bible tells me so". Just freaky...
-
God... still gives me the chills! -
System Shock 2, get it, it's old but extremely awesome and scary.
-
resident evil 4, all alone in the house at night. after the level in the dungeon with his "right hand", the cat walked by. it freaked my out.
and I played the FEAR demo, messed up. -
hmm I didn't find bioshock that scary at all, although I certainly enjoyed the visual and audio elements that added to the atmosphere of the game.
I thought doom 3 was scary because the place always looked like a dungeon and things just lash out at you. FEAR was also kind of freaky with the occasional supernatural events. One moment I found especially freaky was when you turn around after grabbing the ladder to find the girl standing in front of you giggling before she disappears. -
Lol... i find a lot scary title to be pretty scary though...
Absolutely agree with wilsonywx
There's nothing scary in Fear though... non-scary looking soldiers... dead bodies..., but its the environment and surprise element that freak you out... -

RE4 is available for the PC. it has zombies. need i say more?
-
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
Those are not zombies, they are at first: "El Ganado" which means cattle, then they are identified as "Los iluminados", which is basically a cult, owned by Osmund Saddler, that are infected with mind-controlling parasites..
For zombies, go RE0 - RE3:CV, heck, even the Resident Evil Gaiden on Gameboy has zombies
Edit: Still RE4 villagers and cult members are dumb enough to be considered ... "zombies".
