Just a thread to discuss times when you have literally been scared to move on in a PC game.
I'll get it started. In F.E.A.R. I was at a level in an office where that little girl in red crawled out from under a cubicle, and this room was completely dark. Needless to say, I didn't play more for the rest of the night![]()

Whenever I open Sudoku... it just... just.... [shudders]. And I can't play it for months after that.
-
The whole BioShock game
-
the whole hotel quest in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines ...
I was so scared, I had to switch to 3rd person view, just to avoid things suddenly pop right into the camera (or view)... -
In Doom III towards the end where there is a weapons locker number 666...you know its gona be something bad, but everyone goes and opens it anyway hehehe and a freaking monster pops out
-
When people pop out of no where in CS 1.6
It makes me jump everytime loll. -
in medal of honor allied assault: when you just turn a corner and a guy is right in front of you. And when your just hiding in a closet or corner and another soldier comes in and shoots you to bits. It makes you jump sometimes!
-
-
F.E.A.R, it's the only game i have to leave the light on, otherwise I almost s*** myself if the cat brushes up to my legs.
-
Doom III ~ When the game takes control of your character for the first time in the dark and you end up staring at yourself in a mirror in a bathroom. It scared the sh*t out of me and I haven't played the game since.
System Shock 2 (spooky but I managed to play it all the way through. -

I was finishing Solitaire... and I won, then suddenly, all the cards started jumping after me!!!!
-
First flood level in original Halo....holy crap.

I come to the conclusions we are all nerds.

I think it was the original quake, my friend and I were playing late one night in a totally dark room and we hit the part where some big demon boss bursts out of the lava. We were so into it it, it rocked us back in our seats, awesome moment in gaming.
As for a creepy moment, the delirium drug induced sequence in Max Payne, where you hear the baby crying and need to figure out the correct path sequence.
The black dragon in Adventure also had a horrible way of catching you off guard... -
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
One of the freakiest things is when you're thinking about something and you're volume is way up and you open Stronghold Legends this dragon roars REALLY loudly and very menacingly, it always scares me.....
-
I got a BSOD during Solitaire. I remember crapping myself
-
in F.e.ar those goddamn suited ninja dudes that run up when the light overhead is half broken and flashing. And you see every other movement of them until they are in ur face.. SCARY AS HELL FORREALZISES
-
FEAR is the only game that had any effect on me... eventually you get over it. It's like a movie you know it's not real. -
Anything related to the flood in halo: I spend my time running away. Or ravenholm in HL2.
-
Oh yea, Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 = scary as hell.
-
In STALKER, all the dungeons with mutants... the environmental sound plus the random noises... and the 'invisible' mutants...
-
F.E.A.R is the game the scares me the most, needless to say not scared by the game mechanics/environment but the little girl........ :/ -

only two games i've ever been scared in real life of. 1st one is an original pc game. Doom. Of course, i was about 7 or so when it first came out. Went to a cusins house who's father worked for xerox, and he had a top of the line machine, and surround sound and a huge crt. Lets just say, i had nightmares for a week.
Other time was when gamecube first came out, i snached it up, along with resident evil (the remake). The game is so creepy. Whenever I see a crow, or a rot-whiler,my bones shiver and howl. -
-
How the hell do you play a game on a photocopier?
-
There's no love for Condemned on these boards whatsoever.

Anyone remember Phantasmagoria?
Getting a 7 CD game was a bit horrifying in itself. -
Guys dont laugh at me....
....but everytime I see a thread or article about scary moments in pc games I always find it suprising how we overlock posibly one of the earliest scary moments in pc gaming. ZORK! Do you guys remember the text based zork when the grues would eat you? Or in Return to Zork where it would be dark and all you see is text saying its the perfect condition for grues. Also Many other scary moments in the zork series. The whole atmosphere was just CREEPY. Especially in Zork Nemesis....the story and the animation...whoa... -
Also, I remember playing Syndicate and jumping when enemy agents would run at you and start blowing you away..its was intense. Especially toward the end on the level where you start out on the dock and they run at you with GAUSE GUNS!!! The guase gun from syndicate and the BFG9000 from doom (or whatever number) are some of the most memorable weapons in gaming I can think of...some to think of it...there were a lot of weapons in the syndicate series that were pretty devastating and original....sateline rain from syndicate wars and the nuclear grenade....Peter Molyneux should stop being lazy and bring back syndicate. and I want another ZORK game!
Also, Wolfenstein 3D/Spear of Destiny scared the crap out of me....Nazis, and Mutants, and giant Nazis in armour with two chainguns and all moving quickly and chasing you around with decent A.I......also the chaingun from wolf3d is a classic...as well as the knife...who can forget the sound it made!!!!!! -

alone in the dark hands down,
-
Not really a scarable (yay for words) person, but i say Penumbra.
-
I've played quite a few scary games, but my choice goes to Silent Hill 1. Excellent psychological based fear, combined with gritty grainy graphics that worked perfectly setting just the right atmosphere. Very creepy game.
-
As far as scariest I'd either have to go with FEAR, especially that one moment where you turn to go down a ladder and as its camera does its motion (to simulate a real person as they would move when they go down a ladder) you suddenly see the little girl for like the last few split seconds right before you begin the descent. But definitly, the biggest fly-back-in-your-seat moment for me was in the original Half-Life when your crawling through the vents with your flash light and turn a corner and out of no where comes this crab that jumps right for your head.
-
It's from the same studio as FEAR, but this game isn't like any other FPS. Imagine a FPS where everything's dark except the spot in front of you, bad guys creeping all over the place and jumping at you and hiding back, and the only weapons you have are melee... and if you happen to get a gun, it's probably half empty and you can't reload it... -

no one thought alone in the dark was scary
-
-
It was 3am - my room was dark and it was very quiet. I was playing call of duty 4 single player on the Chernobyl level. They dogs came up and did a good job of scaring me.
-
F.E.A.R - Near the start. Where you follow/chase after that guy and he comes out of nowhere and smacks you unconscious
-
Condemned - Criminal Origins:
The bit were you have to rescure the P.E teacher at the school. That was really well done if your thinking had gone a different direction.
Doom3:
The bit were the tempo get louder and louder and the feeling of dread as you enter the room, the door behind you locks and spiders come out from everywhere, no were to run!
STALKER:
The bit were the invisable mutants come at you in the labs. You can hear them coming but it`s too dark to see from where!! -
Probably FEAR and Doom 3. The moment in FEAR was when you turn to climb down the ladder and that girl just pop up in front of you giggling for a few seconds before she disappears again. I didn't play through Doom 3. I just found walking through dark rooms freaky. I guess what put me off was that monsters just pop out of nowhere.

Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
Half-Life 1- When you pushed the cart in the experiment and then transported to another world full of monsters.
Halo 1- The level when you were first introduced with the flood and you have no where else to go
Starcraft- When playing against Terran="Nuclear Launch detected"
When Playing against Zerg=" Seeing 100+ zerglings coming right at your base.
When Playing against Protoss="Seeing 12 CArriers on the radar"
Silent Hill 1- Time when you get scared " as soon as you play it"( did not play this game at all, so scary) -
Definitely Condemned or Doom 3.
Doom 3 in general is creepy, theres many pop out moments.
Condemned when you first start out in the dark building, a box gets knocked over somewhere, you hear footsteps, you turn a corner and a crazed crack addict is coming at you with a crow bar. Then like the third level when you are in a department store and there are mannequins everywhere, and some of them move... -
How can you tell that the little blips on your radar are carriers?
But anyway, I give another vote to FEAR. Like Wilsonywx, I still remember that moment where you reach a ladder, and when you turn around to climb down, that girl appears. Then when you get to the bottom, the guy suddenly appears too! From that moment on, I've been weary of all ladders.
Also, when you're in the elevator, the light goes dark, and then she appears right next to you. I was even expecting it, but it still got me. -

For me the scareiest game would be penumbra:black plauge, just the moments where something slams on a door out of nowhere would make me jump..
And then.. myst, I don't know why but playing that makes me all jumpy.
But for a memorable moment is in F.E.A.R where alma jumps out of the cubicle. -
halo 1 when the flood first come i was playing in the dark at midnight and my sister sneaked up behind me i almost sh*t my self
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
the only game that has scared my was Doom III, do i need to say more^^
-
I would have to say F.E.A.R. I am currently playing Extraction Point and the level I am on I had to climb into a series of air ducts but when the flashlight runs out it's completely dark on the screen and that little girl crawled right in front of me but she kept going and wiped out all of the bad guys for me and when I followed her it led me to the way out of the air ducts. But that little girl is creepy she just pops up out of no where in that game.

Oblivion mod known as Gates to Aesgaard. There are a couple of instances when you touch an item and this scary video comes on that is something straight from "the ring" only it is oblivion style! Had to sleep with the lights on after that one!
Good mod!
cheers!
