Ok I have a problem and can't seem to find the answer. I have an HP laptop with a VGA port and a samsung 26" lcd tv. I am trying to hook my laptop up to my tv via VGA. I can get it to connect and can view the laptop on my tv, but the screen is not the full 720p screen. The recommended resolution in the samsung manual is 1360x768. The screen resolution on my laptop is 1200x800. However, when I go to clone my image, I have no option of selecting 1360x768 for the external monitor. I am curious as to how I can get the full, non stretched screen on my tv. I have an intel graphics card 965 mobile.

If you clone, you cannot go higher than the lowest resolution monitor, thus 1280x800 in your case. Extend or use only the TV

Sometimes a graphics driver update is needed to display more resolution options.

If its nVidia, its pretty easy to add custom resolutions in the control panel. Likely the same for ATI but I can't speak from experience.

If it is an integrated gpu than it possibly will not work. If you can do it, you should be able to do it from Display Properties. But Im sure youve already tried this. You also might be able to make the tv monitor the main monitor and it will be full size?

    Is it an Intel 950GMA ? X3100?

I am 99% sure there is an extend monitor option...
You should update the drivers no matter what, it always helps

Yea it is the 965 intel graphics card. I just updated the driver, and it does have the extended monitor option, but not with the correct resolution for my tv (1360x768). I can get it to display on my tv as 1200x800 but it is so stretched out that it doesn't look well.

Are you doing this over VGA? (Most likely)

VGA will only have MONITOR support on the TV, so try to change the pixel/aspect ratio to something like 1:1 so you wont have all the pixel, a couple black bars etc...

"I have the same in my Toshiba and am using the Intel drivers.....noticed something. The Intel software disables things like the check box "Hide modes that this montior cannot display" in the Monitor area of the display settings. If you use non-Intel drivers, perhaps you will have access to this and can select your proper resolution."

I read that on another forum... I was thinking about that too but didnt know how to word it
