well, most of the times, the former owner should have deinstalled it from his/her computer so that if you use it during installation there shouldnt be any big problems. For online games you could be required to contact support, send them a picture as varification that you are the owner of the cd code, and either the other person gets banned, or you will get a new cdkey, or often both ^^ (only if the person is still using it, i for example bought with friends wc3 with expansion some years ago for a friend, we bought it via ebay. unfortunatly somebody was playing with my cdkey, so he contacted blizzard support, they asked him to get a photo with the cdkey (and i think him holding a clock that showed time and date or some kind of varification that he was the owner at that time) and they gave him anew key and banned the old one. The same friends css acc got hacked and it was the same procedure)

Then you got a big problem ^^
Every game i know (except MMORPGS) ask for Keys DURING installation, without the key you cannot install, so not even singleplayer would be possible!
I dont think that the tech support would give you any help ifyou don't have A CDkey with picture (remember A cdkey, most of the timeit doesn't even have to be the one that came with the cd, but you need an original one ( for example if you bought the game before, but broke the cd orsomething and bought than the cd aigain. Then everything SHOULD work fine, but no warranty on that ^^))

    Your Welcome^^
And to add, the KEY is something like your insurance if you have any problems for tech support :)

Depends on the game. In some cases, yes.

Also there's a fairly big difference between a key and a keygen. :)
The product key/cd key/license key/whatever is the string of characters you get with the game, and which you need to install it.

A keygen is an application that generates fake keys to use if you pirated the game. (And as such, it doesn't belong on this forum)

    :)
